Have a fleeting thought that's not quite enough for it's own post...? This is the place

Edit: Reddit has banned me, haven’t responded to an appeal u/arenaross - can you help?

Discussion Our Sub Growth

I’ve just noticed the sub count has passed 85,000. I check every now and then but I’m still impressed that we’ve grown this much. It seems only a few months ago we were at half this number. It also seems like we are growing at an ever increasing rate? I’d love to see the metrics and numbers relating to this.

I know we are all either laughing at or berating the flood of new fans posts to the sub and they way they are spamming the sub (RIP Pommerz OG account) however can we see this as a sign that we are gaining global interest? If so we are taking massive steps towards a global presence and thus increased revenue. Surely the end of our SCR woes comes soon along with our continued ability to generate sales? Even though their departures hurt.

It’s just got me thinking on how much it’s great to be a club on the rise. Many of our long term fans have seen decades of lacklustre performance and sometimes years of almost apocalyptic times. It’s nice to look forward with optimism and hope we can build on Emery’s tenure for more memorable years.

UTV! HEITS! VTID!

P.S welcome to the new fans. I know there is a little controversy right now but genuinely it’s wonderful to see new people join us and understand what a great club we follow. Every new fan is welcome at Villa Park, I can’t wait to see you there, singing along in the Holte End with me.

Mod - Update

Hi everyone.

Quick update - we are aware the sub over the past few weeks has gotten a bit out of hand.

In part due to the World Cup, in part due to growth, in part due to my original account being banned. We were waiting for that to be reinstated, it’s not an easy process unfortunately.

We hear you.

Changes are coming - more announced shortly, thanks for your patience and understanding.

Would be nice to see Nedeljković given a chance.

Not sure about our who our RMD will be yet

EDIT. For those screaming about Boob's, this is predicted team for start of the season.

he's coming back from a terrible injury and although in training, so we think he might be rushed back in for the start of the season?

Discussion [The Athletic] Why Aston Villa are trying to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea

“Given that Chelsea want to offload Garnacho, an agreement is more straightforward than it is to negotiate with PSG for Mbaye, who is likely to prove more difficult to prise away for any buying club.“

Villa Related Why are people so against Garnacho?

The same things were said about Rashford and Sancho yet they did ok with us, Rashford a lot better obviously.

Garnacho was at United during the extremely fucked up times there, then he was at Chelsea during fucked up times too.

He's never been at a properly ran club in England without managers coming and going every few months and the clubs always being in the news for the wrong reasons. It would help him greatly to be at our club with a settled manager and feeling of togetherness. He has the 2 emis as well here.

He was brilliant against us last season too as I recall.

He's young, he's talented, there's no denying that. I say give him a chance. It seems like it's going to be a loan with option to buy again, so why not. In Emery we trust.

Really sad to see him go, but lovely words and he'll always remain part of a legendary squad that gave us generational memories with the league finishes and, ultimately, lifting that European Trophy.

All the best Morgs.

Villa Related Why Become a Villa Fan - What have I missed/gotten wrong?

My husband and I are Brummies and lifelong Villa fans who live in the US. Our City hosted some World Cup games, and all the teams flew in and out of my work location. As a result, a bunch of my colleagues have become hooked and are looking for a EPL team to support. As the only Brit in my office, I've had quite a few ask for my opinion. Obviously, I'd love them to choose Aston Villa, so I've put together a little summary on why they should become Villa Fans. I'd love input on what I've missed or anything I may have gotten wrong:

Club Overview:

Founded in 1874, Aston Villa is one of the oldest football clubs in England and one of 12 original teams to form the English Football League, the world’s first professional football league. The formation of this league was spearheaded by Aston Villa's then director William McGregor. Over it’s 151 year history, the club has had its ups and downs, but is one of the most successful clubs in England, winning the following:

  • Football League First Division (now Premier League) x 7
  • FA Cup x 7
  • League Cup (now Carabao Cup) x 5
  • European Cup (now Champions League) x 1
  • European Super Cup x 1
  • Europa League x 1

The club has seen 112 seasons in the top-flight of English football, the second highest of any club.

Despite its overall success, Aston Villa has struggled since the mid 90’s and was relegated to the Championship from 2016 - 2019. Unai Emery was appointed head coach in October 2022 when Villa was in 16th place (one place above relegation) and led the team to finish in 7th place, getting them into the Europa Conference League and back to European football.  Emery’s success has continued with the following results:

2022 - 2023: 7th (Europa Conference League)

2023 - 2024: 4th (Champions League)

2024 - 2025: 6th (Europa League - which we won!)

2025 - 2026: 4th (Champions League)

Quick Facts

  • Location: Aston, Birmingham
  • Stadium Name: Villa Park - home since 1897 with a capacity of 42,000
  • Club Colors: Claret & Blue
  • Club Badge: A Lion
  • Nicknames: Villa, The Villans, The Lions
  • Saying: Up the Villa (UTV)
  • Manager: Unai Emery
  • Famous Fans: Prince William (is there any need to go on?), Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Hanks, David Bradley (Mr Filch from Harry Potter), Mark  William (Arthur Weasley also from Harry Potter)
  • Rivals: Birmingham City - biggest rival by far.  To a lesser extent, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City.

Here is a lovely video that was put together 11 years ago to celebrate the club's 140th anniversary.  While it is a little out of date, it still rings true.  This video is more recent, but also quite a bit longer; if I’ve piqued your interest, it’s worth a watch

Summary:

So, what does Aston Villa give you?  A historic club which has had more than its fair share of success, but isn’t one of the plastic, oil-rich “successful” clubs of the modern day.  A sleeping giant who is often overlooked by the “big six” clubs and the football pundits alike, but is currently enjoying its most successful period for the last 30+ years.  A club still fighting through adversity in the form of PSR (financial fair play rules), which means our current success is being earned, not bought.

It’s often said that you don’t choose Aston Villa, Aston Villa chooses you.  I hope you’ve been chosen!

Chelsea fans perspective of Jackson and Garnacho

Garnacho:

Look, I know the reputation he has, especially at United. But honestly? With us we had ZERO problems with his attitude. Never any noise from him, in interviews and press conferences he was completely chill.

Did he have a good season? No. Did he have an awful season? No. He had some good games, came up with some important goals etc. But definitely underwhelming.

There is rumours that when he joined us, the team news leaks followed. This is absolutely not true. There was info getting out about players being injured before games which turned out to be coming from Cucurella telling his barber and the barber telling his FPL mates. Nothing related to Garnacho. Also - last season on a few instances United continued to have team leaks.

Jackson:

This one is good for you guys. I know there are videos online of him missing chances but I promise, he is a really good player. Is he clinical? No. But he is actually so good at getting in those positions to get chances that he still gets a decent amount of goals.

I also promise you, when in games he didn't score, he contributed so much. He is EXCELLENT at coming deeper, linking up, carrying the ball, assisting, dribbling past players, holding up the ball etc. Look at youtube videos and you'll see him do things that will impress you that Chelsea fans saw. Just no other fans saw because they only saw the misses. I don't think he's worth 70m, maybe 50sh. But I promise he is a very good player and if he gets consistent minutes he will be VERY GOOD for yous.

Discussion Mods, can we please get a sticky "welcome new fans" type post?!

It's absolutely fantastic to see all the new interest and fans that are coming in after the WC!

However, it's a bit jarring to see so many of the same "hi, new fan, tell me everything" post each day.

I counted 20 such posts in the past month.

It's understandable why some users post disgruntled replies, but then that makes the sub look bad, when we all now it's really a positive, welcoming, inclusive community.

Seeing such replies might even put some new fans off straight away.

I notice Brighton and Brentford have such posts stickied;

https://www.reddit.com/r/Brentford/comments/11vpxfl/new_fans_look_here_for_info/

https://www.reddit.com/r/BrightonHoveAlbion/comments/1uz28pk/welcome_new_fans_to_brighton_and_hove_albion/

They mention that seperate "hi new fan here" type posts will be removed by mods. So likely they also getting inundated with such posts too.

Having a mega thread with all the relevant info and history will stop the sub getting clogged up with such posts, give the new fans a main hub for continued discussion and will build their excitement when they see themselves all coming together.

Clearly they won’t be giving any one on the waiting list this season but keen to understand where my lad is on the list in readiness for next season when they release some.

Post-Match Discussion - Aston Villa 5-0 Walsall

Well that was nice! Obviously it's just the pre-season opener, it's largely about match fitness first and foremost, but what a performance from everyone. Don't think there was a player who didn't look up for it and the result was fully deserved.

Two goals from Madjo either side of a George Hemmings strike in the first half, with a deflected shot from Luka Lynch and a beautiful outside of the foot goal from Aidan Borland completing the rout in the second. Think all the academy kids gave great accounts of themselves. Hopefully we see a lot more of them as pre-season goes on!

Villa/Chelsea - Financial Gymnastics - by our favourite "toilet thief" journ Nick Myshitter

Them there pensioners see the stockpiling of players as an investment they can cash in on when needed. Transfermarket puts their squad value at £1.3bn - behind only Citeh of the Middle East in the Premier League and the fourth-highest in Europe.

Chelsea debts for 2024-25 - showed a Premier League record loss of £262m within the club's companies, with losses of £701m at parent-company level.

That has contributed to liabilities of more than £1bn across the parent company.

Villa are debt free but dont have the parent companies income that other do

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cvg0723e0jko

In the case of these specific transfers, Rogers' £117m move will provide Villa with a significant accounting profit - potentially £80m-£90m after Middlesbrough's sell-on clause, agents' fees and the remaining book value of his 2024 signing are deducted.

But if "the biggest team in Lundun" were to sell Garnacho to Villa as part of the same transaction, Uefa would treat it as a swap deal. Even if Garnacho left on deadline day - September 1 - fewer than 45 days would have passed, making it harder to argue they are not connected.

So here is where loans come in - and bear with us as it gets a little complicated.

Villa Related Aston Villa part ways with chief operating officer Ben Hatton

Aston Villa have parted ways with chief operating officer Ben Hatton.

Hatton joined Villa in September 2023, having worked at Manchester United, AS Roma and, most recently, as managing director at Blackpool.

Hatton’s remit was to oversee several functions within the club. Among those were retail, security, Villa Park operations, ticketing, concerts and Villa Park events.
