do they affect piston pop? do they do anything better than the steyr plug?

Thanks to Ian from ARID for encouraging me to jump on this deal when I was complaining about there not being a green option available. Lo and behold, the moment I posted that this appears on Guns.com certified used for $1600 complete with the M2 handguard, RatWrx sear, and the enhanced trigger springs.

To top it all off, the pawn shop I did the transfer at sold me a new Trijicon TA31 green crosshair with an Aug PMAG they found laying around for $200. They loved this thing. (Edit: Apparently it’s a fake ACOG, but a really good fake)

As the title reads, whats the difference, and also which is the better buy in today’s market if you were gonna buy an AUG? (standard non nato)

Hey y'all! Your fellow Aussie again. Finally got the majority of the parts I wanted and installed. Still waiting on the extended mag release and charging handle from Manticore. But I LOVE the ARID stuff, so keen for the handguard. The trigger is a night and day difference and I haven't even put the red springs in yet.

I threw on an old XPS that I has been collecting dust. I went to my local FFL today to try some ACOGs and I'm stuck between the compact 3x30, the 3.5x35 and the 4x32. What do you all recommend?

Should I stick with an EOTech, upgrade to the ACOG or bite the bullet and get an Elcan cuz it's cool/the vibe?

PS. also waiting on a surefire muzzle break so I can mount my RC3.

I know it is cursed but I genuinely find the AUG grip angle the most comfortable.

I know this group is primarily for the AUG but I keep coming back and thinking about the DMR that they launched last year and was wondering if you lovely folks have heard when it's finally going to be sold here in the US? By all accounts, it looks to be an excellent rifle.

I been holding out to trying to find an OD Green standard Aug M2 that could been had for $1650 a couple years ago but now it seems like they're virtually nonexistent for a while. Is Steyr usually slow with bringing more production models into the US or is it that the Aug is finally going the wayside?

Only thing left is to rattlecan it.

Hey all, so I recently purchased another AUG, an A3 SA (VLTOR). To my surprise, when I took everything apart, I discovered it has a chrome lined barrel. I thought those ended back during the Sabre years, I guess not. Ive heard some sources say the CL barrels are great, I've heard some sources say that the chrome lining was applied poorly and the barrels are not good. Are these old CL barrels worth using? Or should I shelve it? I already bought a new 1:7 barrel for it, so it's currently just an extra barrel.

Update: thanks all for your comments. After all considerations I ended up going with the Sabre I found in like new condition. Comes with (5) 42rd and (4) 30rd mags and original factory accessories. Charging handle was already pre-upgraded by the previous owner. Pictures to come once I get it in hand but I’m feeling PUMPED right now.

Sold on becoming part of the Aug family in 2026 but looking for advice.

For the going rate of a new M2 nowadays I also have my eye on a used Sabre defense. I’ve dug through archives and understand these models to be worth considering when found due to better quality while still maintaining parts compatibility with new production.

TLDR I’m at a crossroads and looking to be sold one way or the other. I’m new into bullpups in general but want to start, and a collectible I can also shoot is enticing.

Anyone know where I could find one of these top rails for the AUG where the end recesses down towards the barrel? I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere, even shoved it through a reverse image search.

Appreciate any info on this.

Got this last summer just joined r/aug recently. It's not a Steyr Aug but a MSAR STG 556 3rd gen from the import ban era. When I first ordered it I didn't look closely enough to realize it wasnt a steyr aug and I initiated a refund but it was already shipped so I decided to take it home and give it a chance. Super fun gun, my first and only rifle I own. Lucky for me 3rd gen+ STG 556's take actual Steyr mags as well as their own Mags I own a few of both type of mags. Got it for a pretty wicked deal w the scope included. Hopefully it's cool I post this in here even though its not Steyr haha

I eventually want to get a Steyr Aug too but I do plan on keeping this thing and having both down the road.

What are yall's thoughts on this thing?

New AUG owner here, and grateful to finally be a member of the community.

I’m hoping to seek the wise counsel of the experienced elder AUGtists regarding selecting a barrel for the A3M2 I just purchased.

Mine came with the 16” 1/9 barrel, and I’m trying to become educated regarding the nuances of the various barrel options Steyr offers for the platform.

I’ve built AR’s and am familiar with how different barrel lengths and twist rates affect performance on that platform.

However, with the 20” and 14.5” 5.56 options options for the AUG, I’m trying to understand if the “juice is worth the squeeze” in terms of changing out the 16” barrel for either of the other options.

How did y’all go about choosing your preferred barrel for the platform, and how did/do those choices affect your shooting experience, if at all?

I stripped my side rail screws, and I’m going to get a helicoil kit to fix it and I was wondering, what is the specs on the side rail screw I tried calling Steyr and asking about it, but they did not answer and there’s really not much online about it so I figured somebody here would know.

Almost done with my Nylaug! The only problem is, I cannot cock it.

When I assemble everything together, the bolt will not even move. What might be causing this?

Thinking about having the stock and grip cerakoted and would like something close to Nutria Brown. Anybody have recommendations on who to send it to that might be able to mix up a color like that?
