Does anyone know what the two blue people on the Peoples Instinctive Travels vinyl cover from 1996 who have m and 17 on them is referencing?

World Cup commercial where all the celebrities are saying “can I kick it“, and the tagline at the end “thanks world will take it from here“. But they didn’t use a tribe track so nobody in tribe got a penny for it.

Been revisiting some early works. I would love to see Kaytranada collaborate with Q-Tip in light of this ATCQ (& J Dilla) nod

Consequence Reveals Why He Left A Tribe Called Quest

I gotta be honest, I’m not surprised his LP never saw the light of day. You can take his verse off every Tribe track he spoilt and you wouldn’t miss a thing. I’ll give him The Chase pt. Ii and that’s it.

I was today years old when i learned the true lyrics, in Electric Relaxation, were "Relax yourself girl, please settle down" and not "You let yourself go, piece of clam".

That is all. I thought Spotify auto generated lyrics were always off.

Well, it kinda made sense in the song for me hahaha!

I still cannot unhear it.

I'm going to make an unofficial music video for "Whateva Will Be" by A Tribe Called Quest

I was listening to the song just now, and I was imagining what the music video could look like, like the characters will be walking from the side with a tracking shot.

I also have chromesthesia and a vivid imagination, which makes it easier to picture what it'd look like in a realistic way.

I haven't made the storyboards yet, but once I do, I'll post a sneak peak of it <3

And if I do plan on actually doing this, I'll probably start a GoFundMe to build the set and pay the actors and such.

What do you think of The Renaissance?

I just listened to this album and absolutely loved it; I’d never heard of it before, and I think it’s a major step up from Amplified, plus, the cover art is some of the best I’ve ever seen.

I feel like both Tip and Phife, despite their success with A Tribe, haven't been fully appreciated as solo artists, especially Tip.

Pd: Life is Better and We Fight/We Love were my favorites from the album.

Hi y’all, my name is Dov and I host a podcast about 90s music history. I had the privilege of doing an episode about the history, sound, and signature song about one of my favorite hip-hop artists of all-time, A Tribe Called Quest. I attached the Spotify link, but it’s also on Apple Podcasts, Podbean, and YouTube. I hope y’all enjoy!

Does anyone else find the extensive censorship of the “Oh My God” remix frustrating?

Half of the last verse of Q-Tip is cut off, and I'm still just as frustrated that I don't really know what was originally said here!

On the other hand, I figure it adds a bit of mystery to the song...

Anyway, I just wanted to share that... and I'd love to find the uncensored version of this awesome remix someday :)

I don't usually read much about this album, and despite being released 20 years after their breakup, it's still a very good album, and I'd say one of the best farewell albums in rap history.

My favorite songs are Enough!! and Melatonin

Incomplete Multitracks from “Scenario” (17, Mono, MP3)

Thumbnail

A while back, I found 17 stems for ATCQ’s “Scenario” on slsk...

Unfortunately, the multitracks are incomplete (17 tracks instead of 24), are in MP3 format, and have been cut (the long silences before and after each audio track—which are used to sync the tracks together—have been removed)

But since the multitracks aren’t exactly easy to find for everyone (they’re on slsk but very well hidden, or else on sites where you have to pay to get them—and even then…), I figured it might be cool to share them here, ever incomplete !

What's most interesting is that among the 17 tracks, there are elements that were used in the leaked Scenario demos, such as the melody sample from the first demo and the drums from the second demo, sampled from “Hihache” by Lafayette Afro Rock Band

Here’s the link: https://www.grosfichiers.com/7x3anGgSQxa

Valid for 15 days, but I’ll reshare them if necessary 🙏

Peace! 😄

So, as my first time listening to A Tribe Called Quest.... (i never listened to an album fully ever, cuz i have low attention span) + i am a new fan of ATCQ

BACKGROUND CHECK

Listen here everyone! My name's Sajareel and I am an unemployed 16 year old guy. I listened to some hip-hop stuff in my life and even tried to listen an album fully (first try was Slim Shady LP by Eminem but gave up cuz I was 15 and had less attention span). Now second try is People's Instinctive Travels and Paths of Rhymth by A Tribe Called Quest.

I have known ATCQ, only because of their hit songs (or mostly found them) - "Can I Kick It?", "Scenario", "Jazz (We've Got), "Bonita Applebum" and "The Hop". But this is my first time of an album experience.

NOW WE ARE TALKIN'

OH BOY THIS ALBUM IS FUCKING PEAK, nah this album is the first music album of my life I have ever listened to fully, seriously all songs no skips, fully listened to all of it (except the remixes in the 25th anniversary version). Seriously, this shit still sounds fucking fire after so many years.

TRACK REVIEW

1. Push It Along : As the intro to the album, well.... it's alright but it was interesting in sound designs. It felt like I was entering in a different dimension of jazzy madness. But what I needed to do in this new dimensional madness is that I needed to push it along.
2. Luck of Lucien : It was a fun song really for me. Also found the sound feel of the track very funky to me.
3. After Hours : For me, it was kinda forgettable? I mean it was chill and nice but I can't say that much about this track.
4. Footprints : This song is fucking peak. Seriously no cap, the sound design and the feel of the track is fucking amazing highkey. It felt like a true 90s song but at the same time felt modern.
5. I Left My Wallet in El Segundo : This song was alright. I mean I heard of the title before but never tried to listen to it. The song feels like Q-Tip just telling some silly story about losing his wallet in El Segundo and it was fine.
6. Public Enemy : Okay, the beat of the track is fucking peak. Nah, seriously this album's production shined the fuck out in this track. I love Q-Tip's energy in this track lowkey as if he was narrating some street madness onto the mic in a serious but quiet tone.
7. Bonita Applebum : Man, here comes the song I have heard before lowkey. This song is so fucking good man I cannot even explain gang. I love the energy lowkey and find it kinda funny it feels like Q-Tip just trying to rizz (as a guy, he kinda rizzed me. i swear i aint gay)
8. Can I Kick It? : MAN HERE COMES THE FIRST SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM THIS BAND OH MY GOD- Okay, I need to calm down but damn this shit was the first ever song I have ever heard from this band. This was really jazzy and vibey lowkey gng.
9. Youthful Expression : This song was kinda meaningful to me as I checked the lyrics while listening to it, I mean I did this to every song but sometimes I would just listen to some while doing other stuff. The lyrics gave me feels of talking about youth and the effect of many things on youth - i mean that's what i think after listening to it.
10. Rhythm (Devoted to the Art of Moving Butts) : Well, it was okay. I mean it's kinda forgettable for me. Nothing else to say.
11. Mr. Muhammad : This song was really confusing in terms of sound design but in a groovy way. Like sometimes I would get guard off when that weird voice synthy thing came up silencing everything else. But yeah, this song was really unique in terms of sound design.
12. Ham 'N' Eggs : The energy of the track was really fun and I loved the vibes. Nothing else to say but maybe for you all there might be something to say, but for me NOT AT ALL- (get it?).
13. Go Ahead In The Rain : Another forgettable track lowkey. The beat is nice and all. Nothing else to say.
14. Description of a Fool : As an outro to the album, this is fucking peak just like the intro. The Intro and the Outro gave atmospheric synth feels with hard-hitting hip-hop samples! I have nothing else to say because it's too peak to describe in words!

SO MY REVIEW?

The way I rate an album is dependent on

VIBES (5 marks)
BEAT-QUALITY(5 marks)

(FULL MARK - 10)

FOR THE VIBES, I WOULD GIVE THIS ALBUM A 4/5. Seriously almost near perfect. Only one point missing because of 3 songs felt forgettable.
FOR THE BEAT-QUALITY (i make beats actually), I WOULD GIVE THIS ALBUM 4/5. Okay there were a few beats that didn't hit that hard but still it was all peak.

So, in total, the album receives 8/10.
It's near perfect.
