Wait don’t we still have Bello? Could easily use him as the entire bullpen tonight, I just forgot

QQ do you expect a run every inning or something? Sox are scoring about 6 per game in this stretch...

u/SensitiveArtist69 4m ago
About once a game the old problems pop back up. Uncompetitive ABs and quick outs. It’s just lasted like 3 innings today which isn’t great

Should we really be using Whitlock? Not to jinx anything but we’re up 3 and we may need Whitlock tonight when we’re up by less or even tied or losing

u/Benjamminmiller 7m ago
I like Whit getting 2 innings here and then saving Guerrero + Chapman for tonight.

u/Roc_Ingerson 3m ago
The riches of our pen. They're not getting to any of em.....whatever decision.
1
u/JoshFB4 5m ago
Chapman was stretching/warming though. I think Tracy plans to use Whitlock for 1 then Chapman
3
u/WhiteHawk928 3m ago
Chapman's been busy lately, would be nice to tack on an insurance run and let him rest
1
u/Roc_Ingerson 2m ago
3 run lead already. Don't need more for these guys.
1
u/WhiteHawk928 1m ago
I agree we could probably leave it to another reliever in the 9th with a three run lead. But usual practice is use your Closer if it's a save opportunity

Man I don’t really like Whitlock—>Chapman here. Leaves us with nothing for an even closer game later today.

Is he warming? I figured they'd use Chap for game 1 and Whit for 2

He is, camera caught him warming up, but more sure if he is up next

"Crowd wants a strikeout"...and they know the man at the plate can oblige.
I did like TO when he was here, though. He was an exciting player when things were going well. It doesn't seem from his stats that that's been the case in Baltimore.
2
u/Mukarsis Nic Lentz sucks 7m ago
He's hurt more often than usual. Was his primary issue when he was with the Cardinals as well.
8
u/Aroldis16 11m ago
Getting through Alonso, Gunnar, and TO was huge there. I shit on Slaton a lot but he got it done in a huge spot

Best high leverage relief in the game....7th thru 9th. Birds won't score another. Comfy win for 15th in a row.

Middlebrooks' comments there made check and it turns out Durran's BAbip is absurdly low this year at .237 coming into today. That's some pretty bad luck.

They’ve been skating on thin ice the past 2 weeks. They’ve been down in the 8th like half of their wins.
2
u/JoeyZee123 19m ago
Let’s see some pitches guys. 16 total pitches the past 2 innings. I think they’re getting anxious

I don’t feel comfortable at all up 3 with 3 innings left. We need insurance

I feel like we’re the kings of scoring a shit ton of runs while still letting a guy get through 6 or 7 innings.

Kremer losing command. Need to punish it for another run before he gets pulled.

u/Hunter-310 21m ago
Thunderstorms popping up west of the city. Hopefully they don’t affect the game(s).

u/champagnesupernova10 Kristian Campbell for ROTY 21m ago
Wait did I just hear that right? Chapman left the bullpen after hugging some of the guys?
1
u/Mental-Apple-5725 17m ago
No. It was "left the clubhouse to go to the bullpen". Didn't really make sense as the camera showed him sat in the dugout
3
u/theekevinc 19m ago
No, he spent the early innings in the dugout and walked to the bullpen mid-sixth and hugged everyone when he got there.
4
u/RayceIan 19m ago
chapman was in the dugout and then left to go go the bullpen and hugged everyone on his way in which is apparently a normal thing for him which we found out a couple months ago.
1
u/champagnesupernova10 Kristian Campbell for ROTY 18m ago
Ohhhhhh he was in the dugout not the bullpen lol. Makes a lot more sense, thanks!

The Rays and Orioles have proven they'll both just let pitchers die if it means saving their bullpen for game 2. I respect the traditional approach.

Why didnt they pull Bennet sheesh, needed that 4 run cushion.
1
u/Prestigious-Air4825 22m ago
there are at least twelve more innings of baseball to play today you don't pull your starter over three earned runs across six innings when you are up.
3
2
u/cheetahninja 25m ago
not too worried about the pen since we can put bello in for a good chunk now or tonight, let’s just see if we can widen the lead
3
u/JoshFB4 24m ago
They’re definitely saving him for tonight if Ranger can’t go.
2
u/cheetahninja 23m ago
even if ranger starts he’s probably on a count, bello could finish out the game potentially
6
u/GlassCapital640 26m ago
What's crazy is that this team right now is exactly the team I hoped it would be on opening day (before my soul was crushed the next several months)
11
u/Benjamminmiller 26m ago
Can't forget this is still a hot hitting team. Bennett did enough, go get him this win.

Solid outing for JB. Rookie pitchers aren’t gonna be amazing every day and luckily the boys got him some run support!!!
9
u/cheetahninja 27m ago
5.2 with only 3 ER, one of which was a flukey ball in the sun, can’t actually complain this was still a really solid outing
1
u/Infinite_Response113 Yoshida is the GOAT 27m ago
So why on earth didn’t we walk encarnacion with one out so also to set up the GIDP?
2
7
u/JoshFB4 28m ago
Good hook. Protect your young pitcher. Hopefully Slaten goes 1.1 and then we can wrap it up with like Moran or something for 2.
3
u/Basic-Afternoon-1 Tyron “fucking heat” Guerrero 27m ago
If it’s a close game bring in guererro and save whit and chap for tn

u/ItsSwan 28m ago
not Bennett’s best today but still happy with the performance
1
u/jonny_lube 26m ago
Woulda liked to see a starter go 6 on a double header day, but all in all it was a solid outing and should be enough giving the run support.

u/White_Squall_13 29m ago

u/jonny_lube 20m ago
Big power prospect who doesn't hit enough or walk enough to get a prolonged MLB look. Fangraphs graded him out as a 70 raw power guy.
(Un)fun fact, his first career home run was a grand slam off of Weissert last year while with the Reds.

u/verbomancy 29m ago
Bennett doesn't look great this inning, seems like getting nailed affected him a bit.

u/VistaVick Fade me 29m ago
They are asking Bennett to throw more pitches than when he completely dominates. But there is a double header, you have to keep that in mind.
3
u/jackscagnetti 29m ago
chad seems to leave his starting pitching in for one bat too long.
1
u/Benjamminmiller 28m ago
Agreed. Today maybe makes more sense to try to stretch though with the double header.

2
u/DebtOnArriving 29m ago
Probably time to think about letting Bennett rest... Edit and they do as I post this
