Technical Question P0102 permanent code but no check engine light.

Yes the light works. Everything looks and runs fine. Idles fine. Cleaned MAF and made sure wires are all connected. No air leaks, throttle body has been cleaned and idle relearned. Everything short of a new MAF but this one’s live data seems fine. The code has been stored for a least a week or more. I’m stumped.

Discussion 285s

Has anyone had any rubbing with 285/75r16’s and aftermarket rims? Saw someone said they fit with stock rims and no lift and won’t fit with stock suspension and aftermarket rims and now I’m questioning myself. I still need to do the melt mod and I will be doing the spring lift from Z1. Just gotta get tires and wanna know which size 265 vs 285

Technical Question Where might I be able to find the mount between the roof storage box and the rails?

Bought an OEM storage box to try to mount it back on my X that's missing one, found out that I'll need this mount on both side to be able to properly mount it.

Can't seem to find it on the OEM diagram too, anyone got an idea on where to find it?

Tried a parts yard near me with no luck.

Car is driving great, no error codes.
Today I noticed this when I started my 2008 Xterra. Seems to be louder on drivers side.

Photo Introducing my Cheap, Manual 2012 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X

After being a long-time Xterra lurker and passively watching the local market, I finally took the plunge... Introducing my new-to-me and cheapest manual Xterra Pro-4X that I've seen.

While I am new to Nissan, I've been long-time Toyota fanboy (sorry to probably offend many) and my own "shadetree" mechanic with cars including:

  • x2 lifted Lexus GX470's
  • x3 4th Gen V8 Toyota 4Runners (1 lifted)
  • Lifted Lexus LX570 (including AHC delete)
  • 1996 Toyota Tacoma

While my use case has historically included my lifted SUV's serving dual purpose as my daily, this Xterra will very much serve as a dedicated trail pig/daily beater allowing for more fun and flexibility! It also helps to have my Integra Type S in the garage...

Looking forward to sharing updates and seeing others' builds in the community!

Feel free to check out my YouTube channel with the first video of my new Xterra! https://youtu.be/hjLgZc4kjNo

Technical Question 08 automatic No click no start

My daughter pulled in to get gas the other day. When she was done and ready to go the car wouldn't start. Absolutely nothing happening when you turn the key. The transmission has been acting up lately. When I short the starter it spins but doesn't engage the flywheel. I was thinking it might be the park neutral safety switch. Any other ideas? Anything would be helpful. Thanks folks!

Technical Question refreshing and potentials lift

Refresh vs Titan Swap on my 2010 Xterra

Was originally looking at a new truck, but with everything going on right now, I think the smarter move is to just refresh my current 2010 Xterra and keep it going for a while longer.

Problem is, the suspension and steering are pretty worn. I'm looking at replacing rear leaf springs, bushings, shackle hardware, U-bolts, front upper control arms, tie rods (inner/outer), idler arm, and probably struts/coils up front. Basically most of the front and rear is due.

Since I'm already replacing this much anyway, I'm trying to figure out if I should just go all-in on a Titan swap instead of a standard lift. I want to start hitting more trails, but this is still my daily driver, so it needs to stay comfortable and reliable. planning to keep it pretty mild, maybe 3.5" of lift skinny ish 35 but I'd still like to gain as much front travel as reasonably possible for the height.

I've also found a few Titans at a local junkyard, so I could pull control arms, axles, and other pieces myself to cut costs. I'd be doing most of the labor myself with a friend who has a shop, so I'm not too worried about install cost

just trying to figure out the smartest way to spend on parts.

Given I'm already buying most of these parts either way, does it make sense to just go Titan swap route instead of a standard lift kit, or is that overkill for someone who just wants a capable but chill daily/trail truck? Trying to keep costs reasonable

thanks for the help

Technical Question Cam/Crank sensors

I posted about a month ago about an engine stall with the code. I was told to get a new cam sensor, which is fine. I actually replaced it (same one) maybe 3 years ago with a cheapo one. I know it's not too hard to swap but have a couple questions:

- Is the z1 OEM version a good one to get? I called the dealer and they have it for $175 each. I feel like I should replace both cam sensors, and the crank sensor based on some posts here. But if I can save a few bucks I'd like that. It's an extra car and I'm in no hurry.

- Does a cam sensor failure suggest there might be something wrong like a valve cover gasket leaking oil onto it? I vaguely remember it being oily when I took it out a couple years ago but can't remember.

Thanks!

The guy was asking $2k for this 2006 automatic, but it wouldn't even crank over, and he said when it was parked it was in limp mode. I took a gamble and he accepted my $700 offer.

I trailered it home, put a cheap Walmart battery in it and it started right up. It was in limp mode like the guy had said. I hoped it was a weak fuel pump, so I replaced it. No difference. I parked it and it sat all winter.

A couple months ago I took it to a mechanic friend and he found that the catalytic converter was completely clogged. We gutted it and now it runs great! It will need some brake work, but that's due anyway at 217k miles.

The O2 sensor keeps the engine light on, but for the price I don't really care.

What things should I look into refreshing besides the obvious like front end and diffs? I saw online that a new radiator is a worthwhile investment.

Technical Question 2014 PRO-4X Rebuilt Title Value

About 85k miles. It's super clean and has been lovingly cared for by its owner who is also a mechanic. Drives great. An independent mechanic also gave it his thumbs up.

In 2018 it was involved in a rollover collision where airbags deployed. Current airbags are functional and the frame also looks fine.

I managed to talk the owner down to $14k. Do you think this is a fair price? I would plan to drive it until at least 300k miles. This was my hope with my 2012 until it was totaled in a collision with a man named Jesus 😅

Technical Question Can I put my spare tire there?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I see people putting their spare tires on these janky hitch hookups that cause a lot of clearance problems and overall just seem like a pain to use. I want to put my spare tires right on the back of the rear hatch. Hell it looks like that bump was made for one (yes Ik it’s for the first aid kit). But I’ve never seen an xterra with a tire there.

Why? It seems like the perfect spot for one. Is the metal too weak? Is the tire too big? Or is there some other reason that I can’t come up with that requires a whole 300$ or hand made mount that attaches to the hitch. I’m just wondering because I haven’t looked into it much and it feels like the go to option.

Edit: thanks for the replies! Basically everything I thought. Going to do some body work, new hinges, stronger struts, and reinforcements beside the window and behind the spares location. See u in a month or longer when it’s done.

Some of you asked why. Because it’s hot and sexy I guess, idk man I just work here

Recommendations My independent research off Reddit says 2012-2015 are the most reliable years to buy xterra as a 4x4 with Bluetooth music streaming ( pro trim) . Do you guys agree ?
