Seriously, she is so endearing and weird, I love her

I love how absolutely blatant they were with their homage to Michael Meyers and the Halloween films. That episode was one of my personal favorites. Especially as a lover of horror who always enjoys yelling at the characters for their poor survival choices. The ending was chef's kiss. Patricia is so fucking competent. She was born for survival horror.

This might have been a obvious answer that I missed, but was patricia actually stalked in her home when she was younger by the boogeyman? I assume so, since he came back for her, but why didn’t he call her? She claims she lied about the calls, to feel included I guess? Just a little confused.

Ok, this isn’t much of a spoiler but, why doesn’t the police officer or Evan (or others) know the legends? If you were a teen, everyone would know you can’t leave the island, even if you don’t believe it. I know we aren’t going for realism but Evan should know the legends and when Patricia’s party went sideways, you’d think news would spread and the kids would hear and Evan would know his dad was dealing with something. Not 💩 on Evan, kids are going to be annoyed at their parents.

TLDR: time-weirdness influences from It Follows + a deep-cut reference to The Shining?

After 3 watches of ep. 1 and 2. (the happy price of getting other people to watch), can say that I’ve always been quietly bothered by how LONG that first day seems to last. Night’s falling as Shep stumbles into the Salty Whale, where he has a medical emergency that sees him taken to the hospital - there, we have enough time for Loftis to get briefed on his condition, coffee in hand, and for Patricia to get pretty far into a bedside coma story (+ Loftis to get attacked by Shep, and for Shep to die). After that, we’re back at the town hall - Loftis debriefs with the doctor, putzes around as Patricia warns he’ll be late for his dinner in 15 (it’s not 7 yet??), continues to putz for a sec…but is somehow early/alone at the table after he arrives. Without the 7pm appointment, I would have guessed they were finally sitting down to dinner around 10:30.

Time weirdness of the inn in ep. 2 aside, longass nights never really seem to be a thing again - but it made me think about an old AV club interview with It Follows director David Mitchell (now gone but partly preserved in some RT comments - see screenshot for relevant quote) re: how he tried to make it so that the viewer had no idea where they were in time, whether the hour, season, year, or decade.

The next time Loftis is at the Salty Whale ordering dinner (ep. 2), sunlight is BLASTING through those windows (see: 7:45 mark on) - not abnormal to grab dinner before the sun goes down, but if you take a look at that scene in particular, the light coming in all the windows is pretty remarkable (and featureless - just a v v bright gray).

Which - please stick with me here - made me think of Kubrick’s “impossible window” in The Shining (see: screenshots of blog post from like a decade ago) - a bright window in a geographically impossible spot in the Overlook Hotel, meant to unsettle and disorient the viewer without them ever really catching on to why.

Anyway, no plot theories here - just wondered/thought it would be cool if Dippold might have taken a similar approach to 1) Mitchell re: general time weirdness and disorientation across the season, and 2) Kubrick with a direct nod to the “impossible window” of the Overlook Hotel (and in the one episode that pays homage to Shining)!

I’m re-watching for the first time and it dawned on me what does Evan do all day? It’s summer, he doesn’t have a summer job. We only see him at home, grounded or with his group of “friends” I feel like it was a miss to not give him a job at some capacity in town.

It's the little details. 😂

I think the monster can't eat you unless you see it.

1. The chair in the basement has Clockwork Orange-style eye-opening equipment

2. Kenny is in the totally dark room, but has a flashlight

3. When Loftis is blacking out, he comes to and sees he has written "When I turn around, everyone close your eyes" (or something like that) on the whiteboard. I think he's unconsciously training the townsfolk how to survive encountering the monster, as if he's said "pretend I'm the monster, and when I turn around, you have to close your eyes".

4. There are lots of references to people losing their eyes, like the plague causing people to gouge their own eyes out, perhaps as a survival mechanism, Warren wanting to kill his wives by gouging their eyes out, Shep having blank eyes when he comes back from sea, so vision and the loss of vision is an ongoing theme.

My suspicion is that someone, probably Loftis, will accidentally or deliberately confront or encounter the monster and, in defiance of audience expectations, defeat or survive it by closing his eyes and refusing to perceive it, thus rendering him invulnerable to it.

In episode 7 at the end, Kurt the inn keeper yeets a guest‘s suitcase down the stairs and obviously the guest has qualms about it and they get into a little argument that ends with the guest saying it was the worst inn he’d ever been to and Kurt says, good, then you can leave as he nudges him out. That scene always slays me when I see it. I randomly thought of it and burst out laughing. The scene just seemed so random and unnecessary but it was hilarious and led to the show telling the audience a very important bit of information when it zoomed in on the picture that showed that one of Richard Warren’s children survived, fell in the water and was saved meaning that Richard Warren wasn’t the last person in his bloodline after he died. I can’t think of a better way they could have relayed that information to the audience that that hilarious scene

Just thought some of you would be interested, apparently its hitting all 4 festivals. Although Venice won't be officially confirmed till Thursday. TIFF was confirmed yesterday, with Telluride all but confirmed yesterday.

I know she’s been in so many things, but I completely forgot she had been on Yes, Dear 🤣 Burns witches AND swings!

So, I have finished Widow's Bay when it came out and it was amazing! But I am having a difficult time trying to find a similar tv series now that I finished it? So guys, what are you watching?

So we’ve watched it twice through now, and I went to a restorative yoga class last night that, unbeknownst to me, did sound bath bells at the end for relaxation.

Except they sounded exactly like the church bells in Widow’s Bay, tolling out the number of sacrifices needed. It was so hard not to laugh.

I'm gonna keep this spoiler free, but wow what an amazing show. It gave me the same vibe that goosebumps used to give me as a kid, the show just feels comfortable and makes me feel happy to watch. Some genuinely scary moments as well!

This has definetly become one of my favorite shows of all time, I rate it 10/10 this is for sure going to become a comfort show I rewatch many times.

The only criticism I guess I could even have is it loses a bit of steam midway through, and that is with me reaching for something to criticize. But then it picks up again and finishes amazingly.

A small quick review after my first watch. Small spoilers inside, reader beware.

I was doing a deep scroll on Amazon prime tonight and came across the most delicious enjoyable movie featuring Matthew Rhys called Scapegoat.

Trust me, you will LOVE it.
