Post image

I have found a few of these little plastic things scattered around my 15 year old sons room, and was wondering what they are?

What I said is obviously a joke, which is why I think you've been downvoted. There's a time and place to discuss the virtues of different parenting styles, this wasn't it. This is coming from someone who was mercilessly beaten as a child when someone had a bad day at work.

60% of the time, it works every time.

Did for me in the 90's, straightened my act right up. Started listening and thinking about the consequences.

I love how reddit is all about 'trusting science' until it comes to parenting, then its 'fuck science hit yo kids'

It’s a shame your parents weren’t competent enough to do that without abusing you.

it was actually the grandfather, mother was out of ideas.

Like I said, incompetent parenting and violence against children go hand in hand.

It does, I'm living proof. I would have been lucky if it was just his hand, but I had to find my own switch from the woods.

Lol I love it when people brag about getting the shit beat out of them by their parents. I feel bad for you.

Years of studies into corporal punishment and people still think getting beat up or hit by their parents is the only way to make a kid learn. Conflating trauma into a "life lesson" is sad

You’re actually living proof that it doesn’t work if you thinking hitting children is okay.

It does (sometimes). When we were like 13, my cousin and I stole a bunch of stuff from a store at the mall. We got caught. My dad beat my ass. In honesty, the memory was far worse than the act.

My aunt and uncle spoke to my cousin and took away some summer privileges like video game late nights.

We’re in our 40’s now and guess who’s been in and out of rehab/ prison?

Now I have two under 10. Never have a laid a hand on my kids. Raised my voice? Yes. However, little kids/ little problems. Big kids/ big problems. We’ll see when they do something truly dangerous. Not stupid, kids do stupid things. Dangerous? You’re getting an ass whooping.

There’s a fine line between child abuse and discipline.

Yeah that totally proves getting beat keeps you out of prison. I'm sure there were no other factors at play there. I guess getting hit as a kid doesn't make you smarter.

You never guessed which one was in and out rehab and jails.

It’s actually a bright red line. If you hit your children, you are abusing them, without exception. I’m going to need a sample of larger than n=1 to say that physical abuse of children is effective, but maybe that ass whooping made you incapable of thinking clearly enough to see the issue in your thinking there.
