Hi everyone, I need some help with getting signatures for my petition!

In the county where I live there is an annual event that includes a pet show, where people register their pets to be picked as a winner, and while I disagree with the entirety of the pet show, the worst part is that they are allowing rabbits and other small, prey animals to be registered too.

If anyone here has the absolute pleasure of looking after rescue/adopted rabbits, you will be very aware of how sensitive and easily startled they can be. They are not meant for loud, busy family shows far from the comfort of their home. They will be already severely distressed being taken from their home, but then to be sat in a hot, busy pet show, full of children and dogs and being picked up, it is just cruel!

In an effort to not go on a year long rant here about rabbits and their welfare needs, and how unbelievably immoral this pet show is, I made a petition so I can show the event organisers that rabbits and guinea pigs, etc., do not belong in a pet show!

I don't have much of a social media presence and only two friends, so I don't really reach many people! Here is a video for the people who think that we have to eat meat to get big and strong because the lions do it. We've all heard the excuses, but a quick look at the diet of our ape relatives tells a different story. This video is meant for the people who are scared of going vegan because they think they'll lose their man card.

Did you know that chimpanzees (one of our closest relatives) eat other monkeys? But animals are only 6% of their diet. For comparison, that would be like a professional football player eating just 3 eggs or 6 oz of chicken a day, with the rest of their calories coming from plants.

Did you know that gorillas have one of the strongest bites in the animal kingdom? They have long, pointed teeth and strong jaw muscles, but they don't eat meat other than insects, and those insects are less than 1% of their diet, with the rest being up to 40 pounds of plants.

Yes, the apes have a slightly different digestive system that allows them to eat pounds upon pounds of raw plants, but we humans can simply cook our food to aid in digestion. And we certainly don't need to eat 40 pounds of plants each day.

Hopefully this makes a bit of a dent in the barrage of misinformation and willful ignorance.

Do you think if children were told that they were eating a baby cow or a baby pig for dinner, that they would be happy about it and continue eating it as if nothing happened?

No. I can guarantee you that if kids knew where their food comes from, they would be upset that they’re eating a dead animal.

If a 4 year old can make the connection that eating animals feels wrong, then so can you.

So many vegans are in the ex-vegan subreddit with their preachings and consistently whine about getting ban. Firstly that is not the subreddit to share the teachings of veganism. We were once vegan so we know, and to take it a step further— we know why we have left veganism behind. So please don't be surprised.
