Event Visions of Utica: The City in Oils by Paul Parker, 1952-1968 Open June 25 through August 20, 2026

A new exhibit opens this summer featuring iconic scenes of Utica’s past from artist Paul Parker, former chair of the Art Department at Hamilton College. This show, on loan and in collaboration with the Paul Parker Utica Trust, offers a rare window into a city that exists now only in "misty memory" and oil on canvas. Parker described these works as "ghosts of our common past." He wanted to create a historical record to be preserved for the benefit of a future generation.

I will be delivering my first baby at the Wynn early October. I am looking for personal experiences of birth at the Wynn. Specifically, comfortability, after birth meal, if the baby gets to stay with you the entire time, experience for spouse, etc.

Thank you :)

Tell me you've never been in a creepy basement without telling me you've never been in a creepy basement: Frank Granett Library and the underground tunnels/bunker, Utica College/University.

You've never been to Utica College or its campus. There's a library on campus called the Frank Gannett Library, which also houses several underground levels, and a basement larger than the building itself. It's like an underground area, kind of with a courtyard in the middle, surrounded by windows, and a banquet/lecture area. They also have an art museum, but a lot of the basement is just full of steam pipes and hallways that go on forever with low ceilings. I could tell this area was used as a fallout shelter, even though there are no signs or indications. A lot of the hallways are surrounded by doors and mechanical areas. I actually got lost down there a few times; some of the buildings connect to the library basement. I'm not sure if the shelter areas are still stocked or in use, but some of the basement gives off liminal or back room vibes. Some doors are covered in tape and blinds, so you can't see in. It's very eerie and dark down there. Anyone else explore the basement?

Question How much do cops care about inspection here?

My car won’t pass inspection due to emission faults, and I’m unable fix it atm, I don’t drive all that much and could just avoid cops if need be, just wondering how much do they care about inspection in this area

A pair of these peacocks in my yard today. Just 1/2 block from the Boilermaker finish. I’ve called animal control. They could get hurt

Anyone have a guess as to how they got here, where they’re from?

Discussion Have you ever been surprised by how complicated an insurance claim can be?

I was talking with someone who said recovering from an accident was easier than dealing with the insurance paperwork afterward. It made me wonder how many people aren't prepared for that part of the process.

I came across some practical tips from Poltielov Law Firm about documenting injuries and keeping records early on. If you've dealt with an accident in the Utica area, what's one piece of advice you'd give to someone going through it for the first time?
