Provo River Delta Recommendations??

Post image
4 Upvotes

Went fishing at the Provo River Delta yesterday and was there in the evening for about 2.5 hours and I didn’t catch anything, despite using different rigs and going to different spots (pictured above). I’m still very much a beginner at fishing, and I really enjoyed the scenery, so I honestly wasn’t too mad at not catching anything.

But I did want to pick everyone else’s brains and ask what you all use for the Provo River/Delta? I’m still not good with terms, but I used: a sparkly green senko, a sparkly blue senko with a flappy long tail, a purple and yellow spoon, and then some homemade corn carp bait just for the fun of it.

If anyone has any spot or lure/rig recommendations, that would be great!! I also am still learning how to reel in to attract bass and other hunting fish, so that’s also definitely a factor into me not catching anything yesterday. Anyway, thanks in advance!

Looking for Rod/Reel Recommendations: Surf Fishing transition to Utah Fishing

Hello everyone, I've been fishing in Hawaii the past few years and am moving to Utah (SCL). Curious about rod/reel combos for the area. Thinking I'd need a 6'6"- 7' rod with a 2500 reel. Open to bait casters too and will probably get into fly fishing eventually. Would love to hear recommendations, suggestions, locations, or simply talk about fishing for a bit.

Current fishing rod and reel setups:
1) Whipping/Surf Rod - 10' Okuma Rockaway Power: Medium Heavy, Action: Medium. Has 40lb braid spooled, capable of launching 1oz-4oz to the moon. Reel: Shimano Saragosa SW6000HG. This is my daily driver, typically throwing egg lead Carolina rigs with grubs or ika (squid) strips, top water bubbles/hammer bombs, metal jigs (Jigpara), large bobbers past the surf when I'm bored and have bait.

I was thinking I could hold onto this one to target larger species - Muskie, Pike, large trout?

2) Lighter whipping rod (Probably the most Utah ready, although a little long) - 9' Ugly Stick eLight - Action: Medium Light, 10lb mono spooled, 1/8-5/8oz lure capacity. Reel: Shimano Sedona C5000. It was my first rod out here, but failed miserably against the wind and surf. Still catches fish though..

3) Dunking/Bottom Fishing Rig- 10' Penn Prevail II Medium Heavy, Moderately Fast. Reel Penn Fierce IV 6000 1-5oz lure capacity, spooled 25lb mono. Still worth hanging onto or is it overkill?

Appreciate your responses ahead of time, keep your lines tight.

I've been fishing the Backcountry lakes around here recently, and Id be stoked to catch a grayling, I know lake blanche and silver lake both hold them but so far I haven't had any luck, anyone know any other lakes to try, in addition id be happy to keep trying blanche if anyone has any lure suggestions they've had luck with.

Little Cottonwood Creek Rainbows?

Was surprised to see “wild” looking rainbows out of LCC. Does anyone know if there is a self sustaining population up there? Is this just a really good looking stocker or is it wild? I don’t see any reports of DWR stocking the creek in the last decade. Where did these rainbows come from?

Fish in cecret lake?

Can anyone confirm if there are catchable fish in cecret lake as of today?

Having read online that there are fish there, I tried to go up this last Sunday to check it out. Parked at Alta to start the hike up but when I went past the booth where cars pay for driving up to the trailhead the person working the booth there was hassling me like crazy and insisting there were no fish up there. I thought they were kidding and tried to keep walking but they were so insistent that I just gave up and left.

Don’t see why they’d lie but does that mean what I’ve read online is not true?

Strawberry Reservoir

Hey yall, headed to Utah in a week for some week and will have some down time. I know strawberry is a nice spot to fish, so I’m bringing my 5Wt. Got a few questions though, is it fishable from shore? And if so, where at roughly, and should I be ok with leeches/chironomids under an indicator? Not looking for anything crazy just wanna get on a couple fish. Anything helps, thanks!

Witt’s Lake, Timberlakes

Has anyone fished at Witt’s lake in the timberlakes? Visiting a cabin up there later this summer and can’t seem to find reliable information online. Is it privately owned or accessible to anyone in the timberlakes community? Is it stocked?

Fly Fishing What Drainage(s) would you recommend in the Uintas? - Eastern side

A friend and I are doing an annual fishing trip and chose the Uintas this year (August 25-29th). Looking to get off trail and explore some waters for Big Brookies / Tiger Trout with minimal pressure. Not looking to burn any spots but hoping I could get some info on a specific drainage to target (And cross-reference with info I've read). Preferabely on the Eastern side away from Salt Lake traffic. Which one of these drainages would you recommend (Whiterocks river / Sheepcreek-carter / Beaver Creek) - or a different drainage entirely? Never been to the Uintas before but getting stoked!

Trip Report Had a great weekend trip - Red Fleet in Vernal

I caught this big boy at Red Fleet around sunset when the crowds had left. I think it’s technically a “wiper” since the stripes are broken. But can anyone confirm that? I descaled, filleted, and cooked him at camp. Some of the best white meat fish I’ve ever caught and ate!

If you haven’t checked out Red Fleet or Steinaker and the surrounding outdoors adventures in Vernal - definitely take a trip!

Red Fleet has some awesome cliffs for diving and really cool red rock/sand stone. BLM camping was super chill! Steinaker reservoir was beautiful too, but I only got a bluegill there. Super cool arch hikes and beautiful scenic drives.

I'm so proud of this kid! We'd been nailing the cats all day. Decided to try our luck on bass. First cast, he let it sink and a cat immediately hit. Finally got it off the hook and he throws out. Almost as soon as he hit the water this tiger muskie hit. The look on his face, priceless.

Strawberry Rainbows and Cutts

Post image
21 Upvotes

I fished Strawberry, targeting rainbows, and caught a bunch of nice cutthroat but only one bow. I graphed a good number of fish in relatively shallow water, but most fish will be moving deeper now as we head into the dog days of summer. I caught many fish using a homemade lure I pounded out of a brass bar. Lots of fun.
