Very straightforward question. My husband and I are planning to adopt a dog. We had filled out a couple of adoption applications, but by the time we heard from one, the dog had already been adopted by someone else. Another hasn't responded to us yet, as they check all the adoption applications that come through first before reviewing.

We aren't keen on applying for more before we know about the one we are waiting for, as we don't want to fill out applications now and then say no later to them later if we already adopt another one by then.

I just want to get an idea to see if this approach is fine and what are the recommended organizations you had a great experience with. We can very well accommodate a dog and have enough space and other amenities, but we are unsure of which way to go.

We are also keen on buying from a verified breeder, but only if adoption is getting tougher and after putting a sufficient amount of time into the process.

What are your thoughts and advice? Thank you!

There is so much conflicting advice online regarding raw feeding versus high-quality complete kibble or wet food. I tried raw for a few months with my dog, but found the freezer space and hygiene prep a bit overwhelming, so we moved to a high-meat wet food instead. What feeding routine have you found works best for your pets?

I'm really angry rn so forgive the wording of this post or if this is the wrong subreddit i dont use reddit much, but my dad's an absolute schmuck who just gave the family dog away to our window repair guy (a stranger)

He doesn't have ownership; my mum does. The dogs chipped and vaccinated in my mum's name. My mum, however, recently left my dad and moved cities, she doesn't even know about the dog yet.

So wtf do I do? I want to get this dog back and get him rehomed properly through a trusted no kill policy organisation such as dogs trust. I told my dad he can rehome him even though i wanted to keep him but we agreed it would be through dogs trust.

The window guys coming back to our house tmr and i plan on explaining my dads a pos and that i want the dog back. If he refuses what can i do legally? as its technically still my mums dog

Regardless of ownership though i just want what's best for my dog. I live in England, and I'm 18.

Edit: Ive seen people saying the window guy could be better and I agree however my dad is not a man who should be allowed to make any decisions regarding animals. If the window man wants him i need to see his home first or atleaste videos of my dog there happy

Forgive my distrust in humanity but my dog could be getting sold, abused or straight up given away if he made a deal with my dad, I am not taking any chances dont f*ck with a mans dog.

Update: I should be able to prove that my mum gave me ownership and as a result my dad has no right to give my dog away, (although he can refuse to house it) so im gonna be getting it back hopefully tmr and then if the guys still serious about owning him i can get to know him first and discuss it, Thank you to all that helped i didnt mean to make this so personal

Conclusion: The window guy i still dont know his name lol seems to be a nice guy who just wanted to help, he contacted his dog walking community and was able to give my dog to a rich family on a farm (they also have 2 dogs) and they have agreed to send me videos every few months.

Hi! I'm looking for help with a harness for my 5 month old jack russell x patterdale. We've been using a perfect fit harness for her, but she seems to really hate it. I think it's just not very comfortable for her because it has no give at all, we had it fitted and checked recently and apparently it does fit her well.

She's very narrow in the body but deep chested so it's been quite difficult to get something that fits. Any recommendations?

I've received a couple of orders now from Zooplus of damaged multipack tins, two different brands on two different occasions. The tin lids do that poppy thing and when you open them the food spurts out under pressure. I obviously have botulism or other infection concerns and have been advised not to feed them to my cat. However, I'm having trouble getting a refund from Zooplus. Are Zooplus known for this?

Had to take my cat to the vet clinic twenty minutes away yesterday and he spent the entire car trip screaming at the top of his lungs like he was being murdered. Tried pheromone sprays, covering the carrier with a blanket, and securing the seatbelt, but nothing seems to calm him down. Any tips for stressed feline commuters?

Im a first time dog owner and this is my first experience with pet insurance. I’m with LV and I’m considering making a few claims for incidents that have happened over the last month but I’m worried about the impact on my renewal cost. Can anyone let me know what the impact of one off claims are?

This is what I would be claiming:
- £175 for toxic ingestion as she bit into an asthma inhaler
- £90 for pseudo pregnancy medication
- £195 for out of hours vet and medication for ingestion of a laundry pod

My dog is 13 months old, getting spayed next month.

(I’m aware that 2 toxic ingestions over a month is a lot. I promise she’s watched very closely, she has had a pseudo pregnancy which has totally changed her behaviour including being incredibly obsessed with stealing and eating things)

I’m getting a toy Cavapoo and been looking at them both and can see good reviews about with probably a slight lean towards petplan and the fact the vets can charge to them directly etc however petplan only covers up to £12000 and costs more where agria covers up to £20,000 and is slightly cheaper. I was curious to get peoples thoughts and experience of either of them!

Hi, I have 5 cats and recently had a scare that has really made me wanna get everyone insured. But I have absolutely no education on this type of thing, at all.. Like, I know next to nothing. No one's ever spoken with me about it, and I've never come across it in order to learn anything about it. So, if anyone could spare the time and give me literally any information whatsoever, or share some resources, recommendations, things to watch out for. Then please do. I'd appreciate it massively. No piece of information is too small, cause I really wanna become as well versed with this as I can before I commit to an insurance.

For context: I'm in the UK. 5 cats. 1 male 4 female. All spayed and neutered. All middle aged. One has had bouts of cystitis which is always promptly sorted with anti inflammatories, she's also overweight, and had a surgery because she ate a needle once. The other just had a suspected FCE recently, this is not a chronic issue and she's recovering immensely well. The other 3 are in perfect health and have had no issues whatsoever.. I'm wondering, do I put the two who have had issues on different insurances? Or do I put them all on the same really good one? If she ever gets cystitis again I really don't mind paying for it. I mainly just really wanna be covered when it comes to things like the FCE for example. I'd really like to be in a position where I'm covered by an insurance who can and will help me in emergencies like this. I don't just want something basic like a flea treatment and vaccinations. I hope this makes sense, and thank you for reading.

I'm going to share them with my friend so they/we can come up with a plan together. As the first step some of the powder mentioned were bought & the sofa & bedroom floor have had their first powder and hoover.

The under-stairs cupboard has been pulled out and reorganised so bags of clothes can be put in there to eliminate any host contact. And information has been submitted to the vets so an appointment can be booked for the boys - thank you all.

I didnt realise about the flea treatment didn't come under the scheme so I appreciate this information as well, I'll repeat this to my friend so they can speak to the vets and look at some kind of plan of sorts. I've mentioned pinning a whiteboard or calendar or something on their wall and write e.g. monthly amount, or amount to expect when taking for treatment, plus how often they need to be taken for check-ups just so they have this information.

Hello, I’m making this post of behalf of my friend – they need help and I want to if I can but I’ve never had a pet and not sure how the system all works.

My friend has two muggy(?) cats, both Male from same litter in 2019. Breed is part Ragdoll, other part unsure.

My friend struggles with both their mental health and mobility, and in my opinion needs care, they’re embarrassed by this but I’m trying to encourage them in this direction for the better quality of life for them and pets, which seems to be working.

They live in a 1 bed flat which is overcrowded by piles of clothes and items in boxes as they’ve fallen behind on self-care, I’m helping them with this in little amounts in the shape of washing clothes, helping with dishes or shopping, as I can’t offer much working full time myself.

The issue is that the 2 cats caught fleas last year, 1 of the boys are allergic to it and was struggling quite a lot with it with scratching and scabs, the 2nd wasn’t as affected by them. They were taken to the vets, flea and allergy treatment received. I did research on this and believe my friend shouldn’t have needed to pay based on housing element with uc and had this registered with vets but was charged for the treatment – I’m not sure if this should have happened?

But this seemed to work – they sprayed the flat to get rid of them, but this was near the end of summer so I think rather than getting rid of all of them, they went dormant?

Fast forward to this summer and the cats are both struggling again, allergies kicked back in for the 1 boy, the 2nd is scratching but no allergies. The fleas seem to be in specific places but in almost every room, I think because of so much fabric in the property?

I’m about to help them get re-registered for the PDSA due to the 12-month information update requirement and they’ll be booking an appointment to get some allergy medication & flea treatment for both. They’re a bit concerned over the potential being asked to pay and not sure if this is normal procedure despite information online stating entitled to free for 1 pet and low scheme for the 2nd.

And I don’t have any clue of how to help them with the flea issue and get rid of them absolutely. They are a social housing tenant in an anti-social neighbourhood(constant police raids on neighbours, fights or anything else) which doesn’t help with their mental health, so they mostly stay inside in the flat which isn’t any better for them.

I myself work for the local authority that they live in (I live in a different authority) and would like to help them get the help but also slightly adverse feelings around getting my name associated in the database that I and colleagues use every day.

Has anyone any suggestions of how to help them get out of the flea situation, I’ve seen bagging up the clothes is a good way, but there’s a sofa and so many clothes and corners. I’ve thought about – could they contact the council to ask for support with moving property due to mental health and negative affect of the neighbours? But this isn’t a quick option. Do I take the cats to my house and spray everything on the too much scale and hope they’ve all been had and once safe bring the cats back? (was advised shouldn’t to not spread the fleas).

Any help is appreciated! Please come with care and not judgement, the cats are their highest importance/their children and want nothing more than to help them but with the overwhelming situation feels at a loss so I said I’d approach here to see if anyone could offer any help?

Hello, hoping I can get some advice on what to expect/ plan moving forward/ and hear your experiences.

Our dog, a 2yr old Chihuahua , had a seizure for the first time on the 29th June , fitting, was sick, peed etc . Scary to watch. He was back on his feet within a few mins and was back to himself within 10-15 mins . Spoke to a vet on the phone but it was late at night so was advised to just keep an eye on him for 12 hours . Chalked It up to a random event maybe heat related (was during that heatwave - we don't walk him during heatwaves and try our best to keep him cool).

Yesterday he had another one, exactly the same.

I'm going to take him to the vet today at 4pm.

I'm guessing I'm just hoping for some idea of what to expect at the vets, what information to have , do I get tests done or go for medication straight away, what to do regarding pet insurance .

Don't expect someone to answer all these questions but hoping to just paint a picture for myself.

Hi guys, was hoping to get some advice from people who may have been in a similar situation!

We may need to restart our puppies vaccinations (breeder’s vet used L2 instead of L4), however, if we were to do that, she’d have the first lot redone on the 24th of July the earliest (Vet said we’d have to wait 2 weeks from her original vaccination), meaning the second lot would be done on the 21st of August and so she wouldn’t be able to go on a proper walk until end of August. She’d be 14-15 weeks by then.
We know we can start socialising her before that, just not put her on the ground, but I am concerned that we will have issues with walks if she doesn’t go out for another month and a bit.

Has anyone else been in this situation and did you have any issues due to starting proper walks a bit later than 12-13 weeks?
