Hey so I know that GenCon is right around the corner and likely if you are reading this you already have a full plate of panels and events that you are going to attend. BUT if you still have time open on Saturday you should get a ticket to our first in-person Twilight's Fall Tournament. It's going to be a really good time and I'm going to be bringing all my gear out to film the final table so you'll literally be a part of SCPT history if our past GenCon footage is any indication. If you have any questions feel free to message me here or on discord.

Also if you're not going to GenCon but are interested in participating in an online TF tournament we're going to be having signups for our first one on August 12th at 11AM Eastern time so head on over to the SCPT discord at https://discord.gg/2xHeSXPah for more information on that.

Rules questions Argent Agent and Cormund Conundrum

Hi all! I have a rules clarification question about my upcoming game as the Argent Flight.

The Argent Flight agent reads:

"When a player produces ground forces in a system:

You may exhaust this card; that player may place those units on any planets they control in that system and any adjacent systems."

If I have a space dock (or PDS with Aerie Hololattice) on Cormund (the planet in the same system as a gravity rift), produce ground forces from that space dock, and then use my agent to place them on a planet on an adjacent system, do those ground forces need to roll for the gravity rift?

I know mechanics like Sardakk N'orr's commander DO require you to roll for ground forces when they move, but my understanding is that this is not part of a movement step but rather "placement".

What do y'all think?

General Discussion TI4 players in NLD

Looking for a few more players to join our board game crew here in the Tilburg area!
We used to have a solid group going, but between work, life, and other hobbies, our numbers have thinned out which makes it harder to get consistent play days on the calendar. Right now we’re down to about 2-3 regulars plus another 3-4 irregulars who join when they can. Between everyone we still get sessions going, just not often enough for the die-hards in the group so we’re on the hunt for a few new people to help bring back some consistency.

What we’re looking for: people up for gaming once or twice a month, usually a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon/evening.

What we play: mostly meaty strategy games — Root, Arks, Eclipse, Twilight Imperium 4 (TI4 is more of a quarterly thing, since it eats a full afternoon + evening), and a bunch of other games in that same vein. Mostly competitive, sometimes coop. We’ve got dozens of sessions of most of these under our belt, so if you already know these games (or are eager to learn), you’ll fit right in.

Most of us are Dutch these days, but English speakers and internationals are very welcome plenty of games get played in English anyway. We also like to crack open a beer while we play, but it’s a relaxed vibe, not a drinking session nothing’s ever gotten out of hand. We are between 30-45 years and we have some women in the group as well. So it’s a good split. Anyone is welcome.

If you’re part of another group facing the same problem, that works too we’d be happy to team up for some sessions and see if it makes sense to merge groups.

If any of this sounds like your kind of evening, drop a comment or DM me happy to tell you more and get you in on the next session.

TI4: Thunder's Edge When using Yssaril's Breakthrough, do the other players have to use my abilities before I can make a transaction with them? And what is the timing window for "allowing to use"? Forever? Once? Next time it's their turn? Once but any time in the game?

Why is this breakthrough text so vague??

Edit: Breakthrough text for visibility:

"You can allow other players to use your STALL TACTICS or SCHEMING faction abilities; when you do, you may resolve a transaction with that player. During the action phase, that transaction does not count against the once-per-player transactions limit for that turn. "

Solved: According to popular consent, I can only "allow players to use my abilities" in a moment where they can immediately use my abilities.

Thanks!

General Discussion Help for some very new players trying to figure out creating/drafting a map.

Hello r/twilightimperium! My friend group and I have just gotten into TI and finished our 3rd game using the base map in the rule book, from looking online (mostly this subreddit) I've seen not a single positive opinion on the recommended rule book way of building our own galaxy.

Because of this I've done some more reading here and seen "milty draft" recommended a lot but to be honest we're still learning the game and that seems a bit complex (also we do not want to draft factions just the map).

So as far a I can see the options for us are as follows:

  1. Find a premade map (something i saw recommended once or twice)
  2. Generate a map using an online tool
  3. Find another drafting method

We would really appreciate help with 1 and 3 as far as if you had any recommendations and I have a question with number 2. What are the best tools and will they actually generate a balanced map? I'm aware that a decent bit of the balance of this game is in the social element of ganging up on people who get really good starts but seeing as we're new we'd prefer "balanced" maps at least for now.

The tools I've found so far are:

https://joepinion.github.io/ti4-map-lab/

https://tidraft.com/map-generator

https://conclave.mistake-not.net

https://keeganw.github.io/ti4/

The first two are the only ones that have been updated for Thunders edge as far as I can see (obviously not an issue at the moment but we're loving the game and planning on getting the expansions)

My question about these basically boils down to:

  1. How do these tools generate fairness/strength values for the different slices? (and are they accurate)
  2. can i use these blindly to generate a fair map that wont ruin anyone day? (I dont know enough about making maps to evaluate the fairness on my own)

Thank you so much for the help! :)

Map POK and TE Map builder for casual games

I'm not a tournament or all the time player and just needed a map maker for the four times I play a year. So this is my attempt. I made it so you can create the map's layout, and then the tiles get generated either randomly or optimized, or you can create parameters for what you want included. Also, you can change the tiles after it's generated to suit your mood.

Feedback is welcome.

Map Looking for crazy 5 player maps

I am in need of the wildest 5p maps with odd layouts!

My group gets to play around twice per year, and we usually have 5 players. None of us are experienced enough to enjoy a Milty Draft, so as the host, I often pick a premade map. In the past, we have either done the typical hyperlane map or "Race for Mecatol" from Codex II.

Do any of you have any favorites for 5 players? Airtight balance is not a concern.

Rules questions Minister of Industry and Agency Supply Network (TE)

Hi, wondering what happens in the following scenario:

Playing as Keleres (Xxcha), with one Spacedock Station on one HS planet. Also having Minister of Industry and Agency Supply Network.

Now Construction gets played and Keleres follows the secondary and builds on the 2nd HS planet a spacedock Station. Minister triggers and allows to build in the homesystem. Does Agency Supply Network trigger the 2nd spacedock again? And how often does Sarween Tools get activated?

Rules questions Do units move through my own units? Fleet pool question

If I have a fleet pool of 3 tokens, I have 3 ships in a system, and I have a ship in an adjacent system with at least movement 2, can I move it through the 3-ship system? Or will I have to immediately remove a ship once all 4 are in the same system as part of the movement?

Rules questions Magen Defense Grid ΩΩ with Coexisting Structures

Magen Defense Grid Omega Omega reads:

When any player activates a system that contains 1 or more of your structures, place 1 infantry from your reinforcements with each of those structures.

If I now have a structure coexisting on a planet controlled by another player (mostly occurring due to Titans of Uls Slumberstate Computing Breakthrough) and any player activates this system, I may place infantry with my structure into coexistence right?

The tech does not need you to control the planet, which you don't when coexisting (apart for scoring objectives).

Rules questions fleet capacity on BGA question

Hi all ! I'm new to this great game, playing my first game on BGA, and i find myself blocked by an error message that i don't understand the reason for.

Here's the situation:

i want to move from a system to mecatol rex (not sure if it's relevant)
My fleet limit is 3.

In the starting system i have 1 carrier, 1 destroyer, 1 fighter, 2 infantry
i move 1 carrier and 1 infantry, leaving only 1 destroyer 1 fighter and 1 infantry behind (the infantry being on a planet doesn't count)

When i want to finalize my movement, i get the following message : "caution, you don't have enough capacity in (arinam/meer) and you will have to suppress units"and "caution, you will exceed your transportation capacity or your fleet limit in at least 1 system" (translated from french, hope it's accurate)

any idea why this happens ?

General Discussion Need help with scaling Twilight Imperium ships for a Halot Mage

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of advice. I want to 3D print some ships for Twilight Imperium 4th Edition using my Creality Halot Mage.

I'm using these free models from CGTrader, and the description says they're already scaled to match the original board game miniatures. However, when I import them into Chitubox, some of the ships look much bigger than I expected.

I'm not very good with measuring or figuring out if the scale is actually correct, so I'm worried I might end up printing everything at the wrong size.

Has anyone here printed these models before?

General Discussion Game ended badly, opinions wanted

Hello,

I had a game a few weeks ago, where the game ended abruptly as one player gave his support for the trone to a 9-points players (10 points game).

Here is the situation:

- There is a player at 9 points

- I'm at 8 points, all secret objectives scored

- Another player at 6, some secret objectives unscored

- Two other players a bit more behind

- 2 points objectives are available

- There's a law which makes us pick strategy cards for other players, we cannot pick them for ourselves (don't remember the law name)

- The 6 points players is the orator, I'm just after him

We've played some games, so we know that one way or another, this will be the last round, someone will win this turn.

At the start of the strategy phase, I make a deal with the 6 players points: he has a shot at winning, but a tenuous one. Me, with a good strategy card, I'm almost certain to win. So I propose him that he gives me the diplomacy card, while I give him governance. That way, I give him a real shot a winning, but I will probably win if he fails. In the deal, we will not help each other scoring point, but we won't impede on each other, so we also exchange alliance, ceasefire and faction promissory notes.

One of the player behind and the 9-points player find that deal unfair. The players behind asks for compensation or he will give his support to the trone to the 9-points player. We refuse.

Personnally, I find his behavior to be "anti-game", as he just throw the game. He and the 9-points player find our deal to be "anti-game", as he leaves them no chances.

I'm looking on opinion on this topic :)

General Discussion Is it worth it for our group to get Thunders edge?

So at the title says.

We are a very casual group who only play occasionally, but I am a bit of a completionist and I especially love having access to as many factions as possible.

Do you think it is worth it to get TE for us? We already have PoK.

I doubt we would use twilights fall at all. The fracture seems interesting though and I love the idea of giving the combat focused factions npcs to fight, but I dont like that you have to set it up during the game and then needing even more table for this already behemoth of a game.

Edit: Thanks for all the great input. I am still a bit on the fence though. A lot of stuff sounds cool, but I am a bit worried about how it sounds like it is much easier to get tech and resources in general. I am typically of the belief that the struggle is what makes it fun, so I am having a hard time deciding if I would actually want that.

Rules questions Arborec Production

Hey all! About to start a game in 10 minutes as the Arborec. Their sheet states that they cannot use space docks to produce infantry.. that being said, if I keep two infantry in my home system, I'm aware that the production of my letani warriors and space dock gets combined, but am I able to use the Production from the letani warriors to produce more infantry, even though my space dock is in that system?

Factions:

Hacan

Cabal (me)

Naalu (winner)

Argent Flight

Universities

Nomad

Titans

-------

I ended up with first pick, so I could pick my starting or my faction from presorted groups of 3. I didn't know much going in except that Cabal can really snowball and get out of hand, so I chose them to stop myself from accidentally feeding the Cabal player.

I started out trying to rush to Rex, but fell short. Ardent flight immediately went agro on me early. I went 0/10 on combat rolls and lost a bunch of development and a planet I grabbed. Rex was unlocked on Turn 3 by the nomad player. The Titan player was my buddy and tried to help me out all game. Universities was a big scary force that had Rex, but the Naalu player ended up winning it all.

Game was fun-ish. I think I really got kneecapped in that ardent combat. I felt so behind for the rest of the game. I couldn't build any tech and my action economy ended up being garbo in the long run, so I was just kind of there for the ride and to see how the game was played.

I'm glad I was invited out and got to play! It's a lot of game for sure, much more than Eclipse.

General Discussion Has anyone done the math on ground forces required to fend of Lizix invasions?

I always kinda think Lizix just auto win if it gets to a ground invasion with the bombardment every round. But then I think about it more and worst case scenario he's killing 5 of my infantry every round with bombardment (10 with X89). Using very rough math, he will kill half an infantry per Dreadnaught, so with full stack he's killing 2.5 infantry per round.

If I have a stack of 10 infantry (very reasonable number if it's something important like HS or MR that I've bunkered), I may be able to fend off about 4 infantry I guess? I'll get hit for ~3, still have 7 to swing against his 4, should get about a hit or two from that, he'll be down to 3 then he hits me again for 2.5 and I'll be at 5 vs 3, then maybe another hit so he's down to 2, then he hits me for 2.5 again and I'll be at ~2 against 1. Using rough estimation in this scenario feels like I need about 2.5x the size of his ground force to have a chance to hold him off?
