New wetsuit (Beuchat RedRock vs Espadon Prestige)

Hello everyone!!!
I’m buying a new wetsuit (my first made specialy for spearfishing), and I’m divided by these two models. I’m spearfishing in Portugal, and I’m used to surfing in the Winter, so I know that 5mm is more than enough for me.
In my regular spots I have some rocks to not say a quite a lot, but I’m really carefull with my gear.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance!

Anyone in Hawaii keeping kahala (amberjack)

Just had one for the first time and I thought it was great and I was surprised to find out most people don’t even bother with them because of the worms. I had a smaller one maybe 10lb and there were a couple spots with worms but they’re very easy to spot and cut out. Upon further research even eaten raw the worms can’t survive in humans. Just curious what other people’s takes on it are because I cooked it 3 different ways, sashimi, broiled the collars, and just classic pan seared with butter and all were absolutely delicious. I am also aware they can get cig but figured the smaller ones are much safer.

First speargun?

I’m sure this has been asked a million times. was looking at the pathos sniper evo or Cressi Cherokee power. Should I look at wooden guns instead? For south Florida reef diving

Looking for a tent I can nap in while my boyfriend fishes

Every weekend since spring started my boyfriend and I have been going fishing. Well more like he fishes and I bring a book and spend a few hours reading by the water. The only problem is the heat. It wasn't too bad at first but now it's getting to the point where I'm constantly looking for shade and sometimes there just isn't any. I've been thinking about getting a tent or canopy to set up next to us so I can stay out of the sun while he fishes. I also think it's a cool idea because sometimes we go late at night and stay until morning, so I could sleep inside the tent instead of trying to sleep in a chair.

Northern California discord

Hey all, im just getting back into a long hiatus from spearing and I used to frequent norcalunderwaterhunters when it was an active forum.

Times change and this hobby is fringe enough as it is so I made a discord to hopefully re-spark some community around the mendocino, sonoma and Monterey area. To preface this, I'm not great at discord, so any help getting it to speed is greatly appreciated but my hopes is to create an easy place to find localish dive buddies, plan trips and generally share experiences, hauls and stories.

If there's already an active local community forum please direct me but otherwise here's the link to my Norcal Divers discord

Spearos in Greece? Mid August trip

Will be in Lefkada and Kefalonia around Aug 10-20th, bringing pole spears and a spear gun. Planning on renting a small boat for some of the days to get around to good spearfishing locations. Pretty new to this and to the terrain. Although will have garmin gps and waterways info, etc, could be cool to meet a local that knows the waters here better than me. Hit me up if you'll be in the area and want to join!

3D Printed Spearfishing Shaft & Stringer Clip – DIY Gear Upgrade!

Hey guys, I wanted to share a solution I designed for managing my shaft and stringer during dives. Tested it out and it keeps everything secure and out of the way.

Planning to print it in PETG or ASA for better saltwater and UV resistance.

Would love to get some feedback from experienced divers here on how to improve it! (Note: If anyone wants the STL file to print their own, just let me know in the comments and I can share the link

Homemade mako style resting hook for pole spear advice

I have found a Cunningham hook laying around the boat and have some extra dyneema so was gonna make my own resting hook laying around does anyone have any if to say about attaching the hook to the front of the spear vs on the band? On the mako version it’s attached to the power band.

Just wondering if there’s a thought process to that

Spearos in Colombia?

I just moved here this year and brought all my gear. Been on a few trips to both coasts and have some very decent catches to show for it. I am looking for other enthusiasts who live in the country and want to organize trips every now and then, or even people who want to come to Colombia and we can go together. FYI I am not the guide - mainly looking to lower trip costs by going together. I do have the contacts to take us, just don't know many divers here.

ISO Aqualung Technisub Micro Mask (discontinued)

I’m in desperate search of anyone who has a spare Aqualung Technisub Micro Mask! It’s discontinued but my favorite mask and I’ve never found another that compares. Willing to buy off of someone if they happen to have it.

I’m looking for this specific mask, so need to send me your similar mask suggestions — I swear I’ve tried them all! TIA

Line release pops forward way too easily

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’ve had this mako titan elite for about 3 months, I basically go shooting every other day.

Lately, the line release has been so so so sensitive. When loading my shooting line, I have to be so careful slipping the line on the line release or it may slide forward. Luckily I always do this before loading bands. If it does catch, it never lets go (but I also don’t touch it under load so it might slide forward on accident).

I called Mako and they said this definitely should not be the case and I can send it in for a replacement. HOWEVER, I’m in remote Mexico for the next 5 months and I’ll be shooting as my primary source of food.

Any advice on how to help my line from releasing so easily while I limp along? I haven’t taken it apart yet (hate to make it worse) just now I’m super careful loading and take more time to aim so I don’t have to reload haha.

Are Crist Polespear still the best?

I was looking into buying this polespear since it seemed cheap. Is it worth it?
