After all is said and done I might hate the colour combo, but I'm happy they're finished and excited to start the next pair. I somewhat followed the No Fear socks pattern. 2.0mm needles for ribbing, heels and toes, 2.75mm for the rest. The greenish yarn is from a fibre festival and the tag is lost, the purple is Kroy.

I've been looking at them for so long I can't tell if they're a success or failure or somewhere in between.

I am finally attempting socks. I got Kate Atherley’s Custom Socks book. She provides a basic pattern in both Toe up and Top down. There’s no reasons given in why one is better then the other. So I want to hear which on you like better.

Can't decide what color I want to use and which of these patterns I want to do next. Please give your opinion on which pattern and the color you would pick! I'm leaning towards lacy over the mixed rib

Hello everyone! I'm working on my first colorwork sock, and I need some help.

First off, pattern is Brick by Brick socks by Fish head Creations. (free pattern https://ravel.me/Brick-by-Brick-socks )

Yarn is Onion nettle yarn (very nice to work with!)

I'm knitting these at a larger stitch count and a larger needle size than I usually do. I've gone from 2.25 mm to 2.5 mm and 64 sts to 72 sts. I don't think I'm having trouble with keeping my floats loose as I can easily get it over my heel. But my problem is that my tension looks bad to me. Not as clean as I'd like as the v's look elongated and stretched in some places. Especially at the edges since I'm doing magic loop.

I'm holding both hands over my pointer finger continental style. Any tips on how to improve this? My current thought is to start over and instead of sizing up my needle, just increasing my stitch count and going back to 2.25mm needles. Do you think that will be enough of a fix? I appreciate y'alls help! 💖

this is my first sock i’ve ever worked on and the circumference seems a lot smaller than it needs to be. I’m working on the free pattern very tall socks which starts from the top around the thigh. it says to cast on 90 stitches for a 17 inch thigh so i casted on 95, however it seems very small like it could fit a baby. my guess is that the yarn they use is red heart which is a thicker yarn, but the needle size is the same 2.75 mm. i’m using a thin sock weight yarn with a lace weight mohair blend. do i have to buy another yarn to hold it with? how do you guys make your socks because i dont see the point of sock yarn if most patterns im seeing need thicker yarn to be held with the sock yarn. thanks for any help!

As the title says, I've achieved my goal of knitting my first 2 pairs of colorwork socks! First are the Clawsome Socks (Lobster motif) & second are the Herding Hens Socks (I call then the Hen Hen Socks after a coworkers fun nickname). Both of these patterns are from Charlotte Stone aka Stone Knits. Def want to knit her Poppy Flowers Socks since ai have plenty red yarn left! Highly recommend her patterns if you haven't already. I knit my socks toe-up as I get a better fit that way.

This pair took quite awhile to finish. I kind of lost my zeal on the leg of the second sock. This pair took two trips to Houston with me. I got most of my knitting done on those four flights ✈️ I used three different balls of yarn. This pattern is Petty Harbour and used the Strong Heel on it. The gradient was created using this sequence (4th photo) that I got from a Summer Lee pattern.
My next pair will be shorties. I’m going back to knittjng a pair of Rose City Roller socks. I used that pattern for the first pair of socks I ever knit.

Just finished my first sock! I’m pretty proud that I managed to create something that is definitively sock-shaped, but I know I still have a lot to learn. Overall my tension needs more consistency, and I was majorly rowing out on the heel flap (3rd pic). There’s a small hole on each side (circled in blue in pics 1&2) - is that where I tried to pick my stitches back up? How do I avoid that? I’m also generally not sure if I did the heel correctly - there’s a line of stitches sticking up on the WS (blue arrow in the 4th pic).

As I get ready to start on the pair for this sock, what should I be working on the improve??

FYI this is the tin can rye sock (worked in stockinette, without the garter panel on the front), in cascade 220 superwash in the color iridescence.

I’m still trying to get the hang of sock knitting and my heels always end up looking weird. Does anyone have any advice or a favorite heel style? I’ve been using voolenvine’s vanilla sock pattern.

Hi, third pair of socks 2nd top down.

From the photos you can see the back is 2 cm or so short on the bottom vs the top of the foot.

When to start the toe and do i need to fix this and only knit the back before knitting the toe?

Why did this happen? Advice please. No pattern. Just from basic vanilla socks reading

Hi sock knitters

I started knitting last December and love it - I’ve knitted vests, jumpers, hats, stranded and intarsia colour work - I really love knitting!

I want to try my hand at knitting socks now but am unsure where to start and what tools I will need.

I assume I will need very small needles, I use magic loop for sleeves so am happy with continuing that. But should I get un-interchangeable circular needles so the thin yarn doesn’t catch where the needle is screwed onto the cord?

Do I need to get one of those sock shaped blocker things?

What are good patterns to start with? I have lots of practice with short rows if that helps.

Should I get a book about sock construction- the different techniques etc? Is there a sock knitting bible I should get?

All these questions and more! Any and all advice welcome - anything you wished you knew when you started.

I’ve done so far 8 pairs of socks, my preference is 2mm needle size so it looks less chunky and neater.

I am quite happy with the gauge, but I don’t really like the look of the cuffs when the socks are actually on, it just looks too stretched out and not very neat..

I do usually 2x2 rib with the same 2mm needle.

Is it how everyone has their socks looking like from close up when worn or am I doing smth wrong?

I'm so very excited about these and I just had to share them lol!

I've attempted colorwork socks before but have never gotten far, the only colorwork item so far that I have finished is the rad radish mitts by Stone Knits

It was so much fun that I was motivated to knit a colorwork sock! So far so good because it fits great!

Finally into the gusset decreases on the first sock, but the leg felt like it too ages. Just because it was 148 stitches decreasing down to 72, with a total leg length of 35cm and 1x1 ribbing of 7.5cm <.<

But, i tried them after the decrease and while the ribbing could be tighter (will probably go down to 2mm as a test later) they sit nicely
