Since the AQI decided we're all taking a rest day, and the Tokyo marathon lottery is coming up, I figured I'd finally share a little side project I've been working on.
Last year I realized I had a bigger problem than not getting into races ... I was missing the registration windows entirely lol I tried using my calendar, but it just never worked for me. I'd set reminders, ignore them, forget what they were for and then find out registration had closed.
So I built BibAlert to solve the problem I kept running into myself. It keeps track of race registrations and sends email reminders a week before registration opens, when registration is open, and when it's about to close. Free to use!
I know there are already a few tools that do something similar, but I wanted one place that covers the 8 Majors, NYC races (including the NYRR BK and NYC halfs), and other lottery races. I’ll be adding more, and if there is a race you care about that's missing, let me know and I'll add it.
I also work in accessibility by day and I know that something as simple as remembering a date isn't always simple for everyone. Whether it's someone using assistive technology, someone with ADHD who struggles with reminders, or anyone juggling a million things, small barriers can mean missing out on opportunities. So I wanted to make sure this was built with accessibility in mind from the start (a big shoutout to team Achilles for constant inspiration!!).
Would love some honest feedback from fellow runners. Is this something you would actually use? Anything that would make this more useful?
If you run into anything that feels off or isn't working.
If you made it this far and want to take a look, it’s here: www.bibalert.com
EDIT: Thanks all who gave it a try. I was hitting some API limits, which might have prevented some of you to sign up. Didn’t plan for so many people to try at the same time lol Lesson learned. This should be resolved by now.
