Some of you may remember my post about my son doodling on the movie theater wall. Well today I got his doodle tattooed on my forearm, except I had the artist do the modified bear accurately as my son kinda murdered it on his doodle. The writing is my son's. It's really important to me cuz I was forced to make a life changing decision on Sunday, took action on Monday, and this tattoo will forever remind me of it. I made the appointment for the tattoo back in May, which makes the timing all the crazier. Today really IS the first day of the rest of my days.

Well, I was listening to this Beatles song (I want you(She's so Heavy) ) and I noticed that this song has a riff (in 3:17) that (for me) looks like Wolf at Door's progression, someone who knows about music theory can explain or its just madness of my head

I mostly see the digipak version... So I'm curious if it's a less common edition.

I would die for that song even though that's not how the sirens work. What about you?

As a preface: I'm not trying to slander anyone with this post. Simply put, I'm passionate about Radiohead and would like to address some of the misinformation I've seen in this subreddit, mostly concerning Ed. Not all of it is established fact - some of this post is speculation (speculation with cause, that is).

Part 1:

-Ed did not write the Street Spirit riff, it was written by Thom and performed by Ed in the studio version. Ed confirmed this himself.

-Ed mentions in this same interview that it's the only part he's played on a studio recording that was written by another member (from what he can remember). This is absolutely true for the studio versions of their songs: members play what they write. However, when it comes to live performances, it's not as true. Ed in particular has plenty of live parts that were written (and likely played) by other members on the studio versions, a few of which I'm going to mention.

-Some people suggest that since Ed performs it in the live versions, he must have written the No Surprises riff. There's not a whole lot of evidence to support this. Early versions of the riff appear on Thom's minidisc demo's, making me think that it was Thom who wrote and likely performed it (I'm not denying that Ed could've altered it into its final state). There's also an excerpt on the citizen insane website in which Thom details showing the band No Surprises on his acoustic guitar.

-Again, if we're going off of Thom's minidisc demos, Ed's live part in Climbing Up the Walls was written and likely performed by Thom.

-Same thing with Let Down: While Ed plays it in the live version, it's evident from Thom's demo that Thom wrote the core riff/chord progression (Jonny wrote the 5/4 polyrhythm).

-Ed did write the main riffs for Lull, Meeting in the Aisle, and Man of War (as well as the bridge for Let Down).

Part 2:

-There is still zero tangible evidence to suggest that Ed wrote the Go to Sleep riff, besides him playing it in most of the life versions. It sounds like a pretty standard acoustic riff from Thom (could've been Ed, but I have yet to see the evidence).

-Dollars and Cents originated from Colin, not Ed. Also, according to Ed's diaries (you can read them on the citizen insane website), the guitar on this track comes from Thom.

-Neither Ed or Colin wrote Myxomatosis, that was Thom. Thom made the first demo in 2001 or 2002 (and handed it off to Cristian Vogel for Remyxomatosis on the Com Lag EP).

-Ed did not write the titular Weird Fishes arpeggio, that was Jonny. I've also seen people say that Ed wrote the "rain down" section of Paranoid Android - again, that was Jonny, not Ed.

-While Ed sings most of the live backing vocals, basically all the studio vocal harmonies are composed and performed by Thom (barring the famous EEEEED Weird Fishes vocals). In this vein, all of the lyrics are written and sourced by Thom (including songs that originated from Jonny like A Wolf at the Door or The Tourist) minus a few lines from Colin on Trans-Atlantic Drawl.

Part 3:

-This is me being petty, but I got into an argument on my alt account over this point (before my comments were promptly deleted by a moderator), so I'll repeat the facts again: Thom does play bass on the studio version of Kid A. Colin was not available that day. Conversely, Ed doesn't play anything on the studio version of Kid A. That track was basically all Jonny, including the vocal melody.

-I've seen this sentiment floating around, so I might as well address it: "The Smile is simply Radiohead without Ed, Colin, and Phil." This is false as it relies on the presupposition that Thom/Jonny write and edit for both bands with the same approach. Jonny himself stated that The Smile was an outlet for a quicker and less deliberate creative process without all the baggage and expectations that come with being in Radiohead.

Now, I want to make something abundantly clear: I love Ed. The band wouldn't be the same without him (or Colin, Phil, and Nigel for that matter) and his many textural contributions (Idioteque, Treefingers, Ful Stop, etc.), but that doesn't excuse this sub's incessant desire to falsely attribute Thom and Jonny's musical contributions to Ed.

Am I the only one finding the 2 meter session of fake plastic trees even better than the original ?

Is it pretty true to size? Or is a Large feel like a Medium and a Medium feel like a Small? I know their old old shirts ran a little small, and even their newer shirts... a Large in the UK is a Medium in the USA.

The lettering was originally rainbow coloured hologram kinda shine. At first I was horrified when it started to wear off after too many washes.

But now I adore the black on black remains. Feels like a tongue in cheek 'man they're depressing' eye roll at a band that always brightens my day. Even if they lose their (t-shirt) shine 🌈✨👕

Hi, tech heads and recording enthusiasts. I have an upright (nice tone), Oktava Mk012, t bone r500 (not great I know but does a job) and an sm7b. Small room but treated acoustically. Only about 12 inch space between piano and wall. Where could I place mics so it’s captured like Radiohead/Jonny G recordings. Is it wide or close stereo or mono? Is it close mic’ed. The songs are piano led, intimate with whole band arrangement around it (bass, guitar atmospheres). I don’t know if the whole wide stereo, 2 or 3 ft away is good in that I lose the intimacy. My instinct is sm7b mono and ribbon picking up bass with oktava on treble duty. Do I try behind piano or take panel off at front bottom and try there. I know people will say go with what sounds right and I will. But some advice re. technically, what do you feel is done with the likes of Daily Mail, Spectre, Videotape re placement. They all are mixed quite differently in the end. Many thanks.

Sorry this is almost 100% a stretch but I just found this interesting. In Lurgee there are lyrics that go “I got better, I got strong” and HIMMM starts with “I was stronger, I was better”. An even farther stretch but later in Lurgee he says “let it go” and HIMMM he says “let you out”. Idk is this somewhat of a response to Lurgee, years later, or am I onto nothing?

Edit: Another thing I wanted to highlight is the reflective nature of “How I Made My Millions”. It seems like Thom, through an expressionist and abstract poem, is addressing some regrets he had throughout his life. He is looking back from a perspective of being wealthy, as said in the title, but still feeling unfulfilled despite this, due to these regrets. He looks back at a better time when he was “stronger, better”, before he “made his millions”. I think the parallels to Lurgee might’ve been used since that’s a song he wrote in his earlier days, during this time he was referring to.
