Getting paid to switch to OpenCode
I’ve been using OpenCode for a while now and whenever I’m showing friends they say OpenCode looks cool, but never actually switch over from Claude or whatever they are using atm.
So I was wondering if there is a way to incentivize users of other CLIs to start using OpenCode instead.
Ended up building a tool that displays a small sponsored line at the bottom in return for a way to earn a little bit while using OpenCode.
Maybe this could be use as a little incentive to onboard more people to OpenCode?
EDIT: works also for existing OpenCode users btw

Good idea. Nice implementation. congrats, i wish u luck with this product. getting trust is going to be an uphill battle, but the fact that this is open source makes it easier a bit.

So you're selling ad space in TUIs and splitting the revenue with end users. Please don't help companies to find more ad spaces. There are enough ads already.

Appreciate the opinion. That’s why it’s completely opt-in, very subtle/non-invasive and restricted to highly relevant sponsors

Still onboarding more sponsors to the marketplace on the advertiser side, so will depend what the price per impression ends up being the market equilibrium. But at current rates, if you use it every day, should be easily 10-20$ a month, which can already pay (part of) your AI subscription

Into GUI it’s a bit harder to integrate, but I’m already looking into it.
Funds accrue per prompt (with some safeguards to prevent farming), and the few advertisers I onboarded pay anywhere between $2 and $8 per 1000 impressions (prompts) at the moment.
You do the math :)
BTW: The sponsors are highly curated to prevent any kind of spam/scam or bad UX. Only allowing developer friendly services and no crypto ads, this will stay the highest priority.

Who cares. OpenCode is open. If people want to vendors lock in or use an inferior project like CC they have every right to lol
OSS platforms allow for this.
I think your plan is similar to how Brave runs ads? Be honest not a huge fan. I dont get the value proposition here. The ad space is so nominal just pay for your usage and inference providers, vibe code your own version of opencode

Either you are <30 years old and don't know about the ad-bars from the 2000s or you are > 30 years old and still think this was a good idea...
I wonder what the payout would be today.
