Local News Cyclospora needs a specific test. For one Utah family, it was unexpectedly hard to get

It's typical for cyclospora cases to pop up in the spring and summer. But for one Ogden family, getting a test has been a long, hard process.

Local politics Something Smells on the City Council

As evident by the recent vote to replace Myers-- the process was so gross considering how an elected official by the people was replaced by a vote of 4 people. I suspect those 4 discussed it and decided to vote together. They are not there for the people, they're there for an agenda. They elected another life long politician with questions of corruption.

Housing & Real Estate Housing prices are dropping

I'm not sure how accurate my memory is, but it seems to me the newest listings are significantly lower than comparable properties a year ago. Houses are sitting for months if they need any kind of work and I'm seeing price drops of up to $40,000. Am I wrong about this?

If not, maybe in another year the average family can actually start buying again without over leveraging themselves.

Somebody stole my dragon statue from my garden sometime today (I'm pretty sure it's today). I am so fucking upset about it. Maybe keep an eye for it? Or for the person who stole it I hope you feel like shit.

Council member Lundell took it upon himself to interview 12/19 people who applied for Shaun Myers vacant city council seat. Council will be voting on who they want to replace him tomorrow. I recommend checking out the interviews and emailing city council your thoughts on who your pick would be for Shaun’s replacement. Do it today.

Traffic 07/18 accident

I forgot reddit was even an option, but I've been trying to find more information on a car accident that occurred on Saturday at the intersection of Washington and 36th Street around 5 PM. It involved an orange subaru and a jeep.

If anyone happens to have seen it or has dash cam footage, I'd be grateful if you could share more with me.

Recommendation Plumber help

My wife and I just bought a new house, but the plumbing needs replaced. We called two places. Whipple said they could fix it for 16k. We then got a second opinion from Pitcher Plumbing and they said it would be 12k for everything. We decided to go with Pitcher, but Whipple keeps calling us telling us that its cheap because Pitcher is undercutting the sale and will charge us more when the plumbing is done.

Does anyone have experience with either of these conpanies/this promblem?

First time home ownerr here and I am stressed.

Recommendation ISO Tree trimming service

looking for a good tree trimming company. I’ve gotten one quote for our big ash tree for $1500 - price isn’t too concerning but I’d love other recommendations! I’ve heard too many horror stories of trees getting chopped and I love this tree - want it to be in the best care possible!!

Malicious compliance?

I thought we found our forever home in Ogden, but I can’t in good conscience keep my family in Utah. The air is so bad and will only get worse when the GSL dries up.

I’m devastated. My heart is aching.

I was raised in Utah, but joined the military straight out of high school. That meant picking up and moving every couple of years. Then when the military chapter of our life ended, we moved back to the Wasatch, my mountains.

I love my home and the little community I built. I love the mountains so much. They’re a part of me.

But the Great Salt Lake is dying. She’s going to take everyone down with her.

My husband, an Army retiree, has never smoked a day in his life and has COPD because of something he was exposed to during his many deployments. The air here is already dangerous to breathe and exacerbates his cough.

He’s not even from here, he followed me here. I already feel like I took a fish out of water and put him inside of a bowl in a landlocked state and now there are fewer and fewer places where my merman can stretch his fins.

Pretty soon it’s going to be untenable.

I never imagined Utahns would be weather refugees. I’m already so homesick. I don’t want to leave, but what other choice is there?

Camping

Hello! I moved to Ogden from out of state semi recently and want to take my 3 year old son camping. Where are some good spots in Ogden or any way in northern Utah to go? We would just be tent camping.

Anyone else notice 2 helicopters Friday night?

Friday night around 9:45-10:00pm I noticed two bright lights in the sky that were clearly large helicopters. I didn't have a chance to check ADS-B.
Just curious if there was a known event associated with that

How to make friends in Ogden

I know this may not be the best place to post this and usually I’m not the type of person to do something like this but I recently moved to Ogden and haven’t had any luck making friends yet.

I’m 23M , not LDS (I guess I have to specify that here in Utah) and I like staying active and exploring. I’m a pretty chill guy but not the best at putting myself out there. If anyone has any suggestions about groups/events or anything, especially for people around my age I’d really appreciate it!
