Partly. The other big reason is that this isn't really that important for the airflow in a normal home.
There is simply not enough air moving and the fast air movement is not important enough to choose the more expensive, more complicated method.

While the simulation is correct for all air speeds the losses and issues scale with the airflow. A normal home hvac system does not generate the flow to be meaningfully affected by the cheaper option.
