So Marks & Spencers have stopped selling the half-sticks of salami I used to buy, which has annoyed me intensely, as I really loved the stuff they were selling, and it was fairly priced.

Thus, my question to you all, is simple: where is the best place in Norwich City Centre (aside from Sainsbury's Queens Road) where I can buy whole or half-sticks of salami, please?

I'm only looking for some Milano Salami or something similar: nothing exotic or too spicy, but I'd like to buy a whole stick, and then keep it to snack on at home, rather than buying pre-sliced stuff in packets from supermarkets (which tends to be quite expensive for what you actually get).

If anyone knows of anywhere, I'd be immensely appreciative. Thanking You all in advance.

Reform's attempts to play down reports of disquiet among council staff have been dealt a blow after the 'Rainbow Rebellion' erupted in spectacular fashion at County Hall.

Members of the new administration watched on through windows as county council staff arriving at work voiced their support for a group of Pride flag-waving protesters assembled outside.

Around 40 demonstrators covered the gates and steps of County Hall in Pride flags on Tuesday morning and handed out more than 100 rainbow stickers to employees, who frequently told them "we support you".

The protest - which consisted of "concerned members of the community" as well as Green and Liberal Democrat councillors - marked the latest flashpoint in the so-called "Rainbow Rebellion".

This refers to a growing defiance among council staff since Reform took control of the authority in May.

They are said to be unhappy with a number of policy initiatives, including the decision to no longer fly the Progress Pride flag from County Hall.

The party has criticised Pride as a politically left-wing movement which public bodies should not fund or promote.

But some council staff disagree and have been wearing Pride badges and placing rainbow borders on their computer screens in subtle forms of protest.

But until now, Reform has attempted to play down reports about staff concerns, insisting there is no "fractured" workforce and that most have reacted positively to the new administration.

However, the scenes at Martineau Lane on Tuesday morning suggest the apparent rebellion shows no sign of going away.

The group estimated that more than 100 employees took rainbow stickers on their way in to work, with some placing them on their chests and others sticking them on the underside of their lanyards.

In the most defiant show of frustration, one employee took posters made by the protesters, reading "Norfolk Rainbow Rebellion", and placed them in the windows of the fifth floor.

Other employees said "good on you" to the group, with one remarking that the decision to remove the Pride flag was "disgusting".

The scenes unfolded ahead of Norfolk County Council's second full council meeting since the local elections in May, meaning many councillors were forced to walk through the group on their way in.

And as they stepped over chalk illustrations on the ground - including messages such as "walk this way if you are gay" and "Pride not prejudice" - many voiced their distaste.

Jon Wedon, a newly elected councillor for Great Yarmouth First - which has formed an "effective majority" with Reform - shouted at the group that "that flag has no place in this building, it's vile".

Jacob Allen, a Reform councillor, told the EDP he thought the protest was a "load of old sh*t".

Daniel Burcham, a gay Reform councillor who has seen his own Attleborough Pride event boycotted over his membership of Reform, said: "How much Pride do they want? They've already got a whole month already."

The protesters did not heckle or boo the councillors as they walked in, instead saying they were about "love not hate".

Rather than berate, the group began singing Pride-related songs, with attendees given a lyric sheet to sing along with.

Liz Withington, a Liberal Democrat member, took part in the protest.

She said: "We want Pride to be acknowledged and we want it to be part of life at Norfolk County Council.

"It's not easy for staff, because I'm sure they feel it's difficult for them to show outward support, but people coming up these steps all say it's great to see the Pride flag here at the county council."

Maxine Webb, the leader of the Green group at County Hall, said: "We want the community to know that we are in solidarity with them.

"There are councillors here who don't share the views of the administration.

"We want staff, our kids and the wider community to know that we stand in solidarity with them, and we will do whatever we can to make sure that people feel safe and valued."

Inside the meeting, which followed the protest, many councillors placed Pride flags on their desks in the chamber.

County council workers were later sent to wash off the chalk writing on the ground by the roundabout at the entrance to County Hall.

A spokesman said it "recognises and respects the right to peaceful protest as a fundamental principle of democracy".

Scott Hussey, who sits on Reform's cabinet, watched on

"Once all protests and events are finished at County Hall, it is standard practice for facilities management to remove banners and markings."

Scott Hussey, a Reform cabinet member, said: “Staff will of course have their own political views. As long as these views do not interfere with their work then there is no problem.

“It’s a pity that the small gathering of protestors didn’t clear up after themselves. There were lots of chalk markings that had to be scrubbed off by a council worker. We enjoyed the singing though.”

Following the protest, Nigel Farage, who was on his latest visit to Norfolk, scolded staff who had supported it.

He told the EDP: "If you are a civil servant, you should be politically neutral at all times.

"These were the great reforms that Gladstone brought in, that made us one of the least corrupt societies in the world, where people acted as genuine public servants.

"If they want to leave their jobs and become activists, they should do so. But then what would they be campaigning for? What rights of the gay community have been denied?"

To staff who want the Pride flag back above County Hall, he said: "It ain't happening.

"You can find new people. If they want to leave their jobs, that's fine - they won't. They'll have a little protest and go back to their desks."

I’m currently working on a collection of paintings that showcase the “then and now” of Norwich and surrounding area.

I am not originally from here so I’ve been limited to the archives and the internet so far. I wondered if I could borrow your knowledge! Can anyone suggest any buildings that have changed use over the years, and still stand today?

Ideally I work on:
\- buildings with an available historic photograph
\- still keep the same features today (roughly)
\- and are in use as a coffee shop, florist, cafe, etc

Hey I wondered if anyone knows about any spaces for poetry or book groups or anywhere poetry can be shared and discussed. Personally I don’t want to do open mics, I prefer private spaces and can’t do crowds currently but would love to know if there’s any clubs or spaces to be surrounded by like minded people

Power to their elbows

This pigeon got injured and cannot fly away. We cannot physically approach it to bring it inside for shelter and protection, so we gave it food and water. It is flapping its wings in resistance, and we want to respect the birdy's space. We called PACT and RSPCA for rescue and help, but they gave us a vet contact who told us they don't do the same for wildlife. So we are in a bit of a pickle about what to do now. We are students at the UEA living on campus, and it's right outside our kitchen facing Bluebell Road. Advice and help needed. Thank you!

Trying to find somewhere new, had a great meal at Tattlers couple of months back, but they dont have website and the booking site looks like same menu.

Missus is vegetarian, so that puts a few places out.

Somewhere nice for a Friday night, cost ain't an issue if the foods worth it.

Jenny Holmwood complained to the Independent Press Standards Organisation that Norwich Evening News breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) and Clause 4 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Editors’ Code of Practice in an article headlined “Terrified neighbours describe shock after fatal stabbing of pensioner in own home”, published on 4 November 2025

The complaint was upheld, and IPSO required Norwich Evening News to publish this adjudication to remedy the breaches of the Code.

The article reported on the death of the complainant’s partner, allegedly killed by a lodger. It included:

One neighbour said that over the years, Ms Holmwood, 75, hosted lodgers, sometimes young men, sometimes old. He said: ’One became her boyfriend, and one she ended up marrying.

[…]

‘I suspect the lodgers were a way of making ends meet.’”

The complainant complained that the above lines were inaccurate - she had never had a romantic relationship with a lodger; and she had rented her rooms for reasons not related to any financial difficulties.

The complainant also considered the reported lines salacious, inaccurate and upsetting – in breach of Clause 4. They had been published at a time of grief and distress, on the same day as her partner’s death.

The publication was unable to supply its reporter’s notes to demonstrate that it had accurately reported the neighbour’s comments. Further, it had not provided evidence it had taken additional steps to verify the claims. These were significant allegations concerning the complainant’s personal life and finances. The publication’s inability to provide any evidence to demonstrate that it had presented the claims accurately, alongside the seeming lack of effort to corroborate them, demonstrated a severe failure to take due care and, in IPSO’s view, a serious breach of Clause 1 (i).

IPSO also considered the claims were upsetting to the complainant, and potentially reputationally damaging. The inaccurate information was significant and required correction and, in IPSO’s view, warranted an apology. The publication had not published either – there was a breach of Clause 1 (ii).

Under Clause 4, IPSO again considered that the comments related to the complainant’s private life and were potentially reputationally damaging. They had also been presented in a manner which suggested that they were relevant to her partner’s death. Their publication in the immediate aftermath of the death, compounded by the publication’s inability to evidence any corroboration, demonstrated a grave failure to handle publication sensitively - any upset caused to the complainant was entirely foreseeable. This was a breach of Clause 4.

IPSO also expressed concerns with the publication’s conduct. In IPSO’s view the publication’s correspondence with the complainant during the complaints process lacked sympathy for a sensitive and upsetting situation. It recorded these concerns and its view that this should be given further consideration as a standards matter by IPSO.

Hi, can anyone recommend somewhere / someone in the Norwich area (maybe up to ten miles ish out) that can offer private riding lessons for my daughter and potentially myself? We used to go to Kimblewick so anywhere but them (the drive getting across from NR3 out there and back in the evenings was just too much in the end with all the traffic, roadworks and delays around Dereham Road and longwater). Happy with similar riding school offerings or a smaller set up but we do not have our own horse(s) to use ofc. TIA

I want to host a crafting/junk journaling meet up for a group of friends but my house isn't big enough for maybe 8 plus people to have enough space.

Anyone have any recommendations for a room or small venue to rent for a few hours? Ideally fairly central. I checked The Forum and it was around £50 an hour so ideally for less!
