I've never seen this before. Stopped in at Bridge brewery and heard a strange noise above.

Looked up and a pressure washer drone connected to a hose 100ft up was washing glass and patios.

Pretty cool and seems safer than a person repelling from the roof. Never seen before.

nature🌲wildlife What have your encounters with bears been like?

I live in Calverhall and last summer we saw a big boy roam by pretty often. Now I have a 4 month old baby and I’m wondering how safe it is for us to be out walking right now when they are clearly quite active. From my understanding black bears aren’t typically aggressive towards humans? But I’d definitely prefer not to have a one on one encounter…Is there a time of day that they are typically out more? I’m assuming staying out of the forest is step 1, but also I feel like they are just everywhere in the neighborhood. If you’ve had encounters before, what are they like?

ETA - I have a large dog too. If he barked at one would it cause them to run away or get aggressive?

Good Deeds Lost/Found water bottles at Inter River park

These have been at the Inter River NE softball diamond the last week or so - they don’t belong to anybody in our league so I’m sure somebody left them behind on a hot day. I rinsed & emptied them out and left on the bleachers on the 3rd base side.

Ask North Van Moving Company Recommendations

Good morning Reddit!

My partner and I are making a move from North Van to Powell River on the Sunshine Coast.
We're looking for a reliable basic moving service - load up the truck, drive it over (2 ferries), unload.

We're also considering renting a truck ourselves and pay a couple of guys to load/unload on either end.

Help! Moving sucks! 🚩

Filmed this bear wandering right outside my office building today. Just a heads up to anyone in the area to stay alert, watch your surroundings when heading out for lunch, and make sure any outdoor trash bins are tightly secured.

nature🌲wildlife Warning bears are awake and roaming!!

I’ve encountered two different large black bears in NV (delbrook area/lynn valley) in the last 24hrs.
The first encounter was in upper lynn valley, a large single black bear digging thru a residential trash can left out. The second was just now a bear with two cubs is wandering near larson elementary around 12am.

ā€¼ļøPlease be safe don’t walk pets late at night, keep them on leash and if you are out late bring a bear bell, a light and be loudā€¼ļø

If you encounter a bear, stay calm and speak in a loud firm voice to the bear. Back away slowly, never turning your back to the bear try to give it an escape route while also refraining
from prolonged eye contact with the bear, DO NOT RUN the bear may begin to chase you and you cannot out run a wild animal, pick up small children and or pets.

Remember bears aren’t just active at night please ensure even children are aware of what to do in the case of a bear encounter and please make sure yourself and neighbours are taking proper care of garbage and litter as we all know living here, a fed bear is a dead bear.
If you see a bear in your area please contact the north shore black bear society as it helps track where they’re most active and keeps everyone aware of their whereabouts keeping us all safer.

edit: After reading comments on this post, I am aware it’s bear season, and I am not new to the area however I post this as a warning for people who don’t understand dangers of wildlife and how to be safe as cute as they are. People will do anything to get a cool picture or anything and the more comfortable bears become around people the more issues we have. Of course all this info is burned into those who grew up in NV.

discussion / opinion Looking for feedback on for met Mayor Barb Sharp

Hey North Van folks, It’s your neighbours to the east out in Langley!

We have a slate that has been formed for the next municipal election in October and Barb Sharp is their president. I know she was a former councillor and Mayor in North Van and wanted to see if anyone remembers her time out there and has any feedback on her or how things ran while she was in office.

I appreciate it!

Ask North Van Trying to help a woman sleeping in her car in the District of NV

For the past several nights a woman has been sleeping in her car near my place in the District of North Vancouver. It looks like she is in a rough spot, and I'd like to get her connected with outreach support. To be clear - I am NOT looking to get police or bylaw involved; I don't want her displaced, I want her helped if she needs it.

I've tried CMHA North and West Vancouver Outreach, Lookout Housing and Health Society / North Shore Shelter, and 211, but I can't get through. The 211 and Lookout lines just disconnect without connecting my call.

Does anyone have:

  • A working phone number or email for any North Shore outreach team (or a specific worker's contact if you know one)
  • Advice from anyone who does outreach work: what's the best way to get a gentle, no-pressure check-in for someone in this situation? I don't want to knock on her window and scare her, and I'm afraid if I leave a note she will feel like she's been spotted and go somewhere else.

Thanks in advance.

Housing & Rental Has anyone successfully negotiated a rent reduction with their landlord in North Vancouver?

We moved to North Vancouver in September 2023. We rent a one-bedroom apartment of approximately 700 sq. ft. on the first floor of a building along Marine Drive. One of the main benefits is direct access to an enclosed courtyard that is shared only by residents.

Our original rent was $2,800 per month. The apartment was sold to a new landlord in 2024, and we remained as tenants. Our rent was then increased to $2,900 in September 2024 and to $3,000 in September 2025.

The rent-increase notices have also included comments that, if we do not accept the increase, one of the landlord’s relatives may need to move into the unit. This has made us nervous about trying to negotiate.

Now, in 2026, rental prices in North Vancouver appear to have decreased. We are seeing comparable one-bedroom units, including some with courtyard access, advertised for around $2,500–$2,700.

We are considering asking our landlord to reduce our rent to $2,750 per month for the coming year. We have been reliable tenants, pay on time, and would prefer to stay rather than move.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully negotiated a lower rent with an existing landlord?

We would also appreciate advice on the following:

  1. Is asking for $2,750 reasonable based on the current market?
  2. How should we approach the negotiation?
  3. Can a landlord legally suggest that a relative may move in if tenants do not accept a rent increase?
  4. What protections would we have if the landlord later issued a notice for family use?

Thank you!

Edit: Thank you so much, everyone! I just wanted to clarify a few things. We have a one-bedroom plus den. The building is not a rental building; most residents own their units and have lived here for quite some time.

Our unit also has a small private backyard enclosed by a fence, plus access to a shared courtyard. The courtyard is on the second level above the street and is completely screened from street view.

I also did some research and found that the exact same unit layout is currently listed for $2,900. That unit is on a higher floor, so it has a balcony instead of a backyard.

Based on this, we could probably hope for a reduction of around $100 rather than $250.

discussion / opinion Amazing event but …

The crowd at the final and semi-finals was terrible. I attended at least a dozen games over the tournament. It went from people standing, cheering and enjoying a great venue to everyone suiting in the finale. Even the semis, the crowd was mostly sitting.

Today people were demanding others sit and chanting ā€˜sit down’. It made it cramped, uncomfortable and somewhat hostile. It almost ruined what was an otherwise great outcome for the game and a fun month.

Anyway, curious if I’m out in left field or if others down there feel the same?

Ask North Van Park Place Montessori

Hey!

I saw a post from a couple of years ago about Park Place Montessori on Keith, we are thinking of enrolling our kids there. Overall it sounds decent, but I wanted to know if anyone has more up to date opinions on the facility? We have a 1yo and also a kid that could go to the before and after program. We can walk so we aren’t too worried about the issues with parking. Thanks!

discussion / opinion Organizing a Lower Lonsdale TTRPG group

Hi everyone! I am posting this on behalf of my husband who is organizing an in-person TTRPG group in the Lower Lonsdale area:

Edit: sign up ends July 31st

Have you ever thought: "I'd love to play Tabletop, but finding a consistent group is hard"?Ā

Good news! I'm putting together a table of 5 players who want to make new friends, create adventures together, share some snacks, laughs, and maybe a (non-alcoholic) drink or two.Ā

I'm Dan (29, he/him), and I'll be your GM. You can read more about me in the Google form! I have been running games for nearly 10 years and unfortunately had to leave my regular group of four years behind in Toronto. I'm always trying to make games as fun, adventurous, and as open as possible; allowing the players to dictate their own goals and stories.Ā

We'll meet every two weeks on Friday evenings or Sundays, starting August 16th in Lower Lonsdale.

Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or you've never played a tabletop RPG before, you're welcome to join!

__________________________________________

Requirements:

• Be cool and ready for some fun shenanigans with new friends!

• Show up for all 3 trial sessions around Lonsdale Ave & 3rd to figure out if this is the group for you.

• Be willing to commit to a semi-regular two week schedule if you decide to join the group. (Life happens and accommodations can and will be made of course, but I put a lot of work into these sessions, so I am looking for players who are able and willing to stick to the commitment regularly!)

• No discrimination of any kind. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated. Everyone is welcome!Ā

• No AI-generated content such as character sheets, backstories, campaign decisions, images, ideas, etc. We create our own slop!

• Have a Discord account! We'll set up a server as our main platform for organization and communication.Ā

• Bring enthusiasm, imagination, and a willingness to occasionally make terrible decisions in character.

__________________________________________

Sounds good so far? 🤠

We'll play Troika! RPG in our first 3 trial sessionsĀ and will discuss as a group what game to play long-term.

More information + sign up is here if you’re interested: https://forms.gle/tYrCbAWGVKge5m5g6 :)

Let me know if you have any questions!
