Discussion On the path and not having "it"

Yesterday Angelo Dilullo posted a video about how he experiences oneness. First he made a lot of clarifications on how it is impossible to describe such a "thing" through the mind / words since language is inherently dualistic etc and then proceeded with several analogies.

Clearly, I don't experience life the way he does. Hence I could argue Angelo has something I don't. And by that I don't mean he's inherently better or different or that I need something in particular in order for me to experience life in the same way. Still i just don't.

If I sit on a bench, just observe, bodily sensations, I see and feel and experience what's around and inside me. A thought might arise, "I don't experience it", or a subtle frustration, "something is missing". I observe, "just a thought", which is another thought. No thinker just thoughts floating. I might enter a meditative space, no thoughts at all. This is as far as I can get, my perception doesn't change, I don't experience oneness. I do have a very calm and pleasant human experience enjoying a beautiful day watching people walking and listening to birds singing, no future, no past, no problems. But it isn't oneness.

If I do enquiry "hard" yes, duality starts to collapse. What I see doesn't seem there anymore but rather here. Sounds, touch etc. But it's not my default experience.

Discussion "My" Enlightenment experience. Read the body text below. Not your typical explanation.

When i was 27 I had the 'outward' recognition, I recognized while i was being present and walking in the parking lot that all I could see was "me". I recognized everything as one image, one whole. Instead of seeing my body and identifying with it, I recognized that "my body" was the entire perception of the world. Perception of the world because there is no world "out there". There is the appearance of the world appearing in me. I am not appearing in a world. A world appears in me(awareness). Just like in a dream.

Which is actually the oppisite of how this typically goes. Usually one has the "inward" recognition first hence "i am awareness, not the body. And the body is not aware. I, awareness, am aware. Awareness doesnt appear in the body, the body appears in awareness.". . .

And thats where I was stuck for the longest. I had the recognition outwardly, that all I could see was "me". But I wasn't free, I still suffered as a mind because I hadn't recognized the freedom of my being and peace which was always present.

To be honest the outward recognition terrified me. So I was a coward and quit meditation for a bit off and on. I would listen to Tool the rock band and go in deep but I would always get terrified and look away again. Purposely making myself think and run away from the recognition. So it wasn't until I was in my 30s that I decided to go all the way in, I didnt care if "i" dissappeared.

One day sitting in my garage listening to music I stopped and closed my eyes. I tapped the side of my head and contemplated how I was awareness and not the body. Out of no where in the silence, while tapping the side of my head with my eyes closed, I recognized "ohhh i am awareness, and the feeling of the hand and the head is appearing in me. My hand isnt aware. My head isnt aware. I awareness am aware." I recognized that nothing known was knowing aka nothing known is Aware. It is made up of and appearing in awareness, but thoughts, sensations, smell, taste, no perception is aware itself. Instantly i recognized that the body is not aware. That i was mistaking the feeling of the body as being aware. But I awareness am aware of feeling. Feeling isnt awareness. Feeling is known, it isnt knowing.

It freed "me". I recognized i was indeed eternal, ever present. Unlimited. That your success was my success. That your loss was my loss. I knocked on the Door and it opened. 👁🧘‍♂️✌️

Discussion What justifies saying we know what reality is?

I find myself fascinated by the difference between describing experience and making claims about what reality ultimately is.

We can talk about what is directly given: sensations, thoughts, awareness, perception, the structure of experience itself.

But how do we move from that to conclusions about the nature of reality?

What justifies the leap from phenomenology to ontology?

I’m not asking this as a rejection of metaphysical views. I’m genuinely curious about how people determine that a particular interpretation of experience is not just a model, but a statement about what reality actually is.

Even if one says ontology is directly realized rather than inferred, then how do we distinguish a direct realization of reality itself from a particular interpretation of the structure of experience?

How do we know when we have encountered reality itself versus when we have encountered a very compelling way of organizing experience?

And I hope this is read primarily as an epistemological question rather than a challenge to any particular metaphysical position.

I’m especially curious about people’s personal answers here. If you respond, I’d be interested in how you arrived at your position, not only the tradition or framework you draw from.

🙏

Question/Advice Does logic keep you from going to heaven after death?

Does logic keep you from going to heaven after death?

I am faced with this question due to a dream that was quite conscious.

The details are unimportant, but maybe interestng to some of you: basically I found myself in darkness, where I couldn't speak, I couldnt change anything in my thinking or doing anymore, I was just me as I was in my last breath before everything went dark and I found myself trapped, floating in infinite darkness, a feeling of knowing I will go to hell, thats when i decided to wake up, being in the same conscious state i was in when i dreamt.

Even if it was just a nightmare after dealing with religion, it strikes this question, because if believing in a heaven after death is the only thing that will bring you heaven as in manifesting it, would that mean you might go to hell or whatever neverending darkness is?

The monotheistic religions state that you shouldn't use "human logic" to understand the world, but rather believe in god's word.

Consciously believing in an eternal place after... It seems like i cant do that because logic tells me that it would have to go on or flow into a sort of reincarnation as existence is duality and consciousness would have to follow a body or go back to god or nonduality so to speak.

But knowing that time is subjective, it could very well be that we are experiencing eternity while the body is dying. As the body is infinitesimally perishing, our time reception becomes infinitely big.

And that's what heaven might be for.

Because in the dream when i was dead/dying and in darkness, i understood that my consciousness wasn't able to withstand infinite darkness. It was cognitionwise and spiritually too overwhelming.

It made me understand what it means to have a heaven.

It made me understand that using only logic and apathism or egalitarianism for describing or understanding existence or world might not bring you what you believe to be true.

Pretending that it would be like in my dream, even though I don't "believe it", it might be that it's necessary to be alone in infinity in order to go into a more beautiful next life or whatever, not even due to my belief but because of my souls path or so. Might be that that was a waiting stage, where it would still be decided meaning I might have been able to still decide to accept Jesus Christ as my saviour so to speak, but in the dream the feeling was very clear that I will go to hell, that was my thoughts in the dream, while floating in darkness. The "knowing" that I couldn't change anything anymore, my faith was sealed and I have to live with the consequences of not living as God intended me to by choosing egotism and neglect and living half heartedly, guarding myself instead of being part of this world, instead of having true compassion, doing good only because my cognition told me to, rather than believing in heaven and the monotheistic God. I knew that if I stayed there, I would end up in hell whatever that would've meant.

One could call me coward for waking up and not staying. But that was the message I got, that cowardness was what brought me to that place.

But for the possiblity that it might help someone, I wanted to share this story, so if the religions or their core is actually true, this might be a sort of good explanation of why there should be a believe in heaven.

Mental Wellness The absence of a chooser became clear before the apparent person had learned how to live

I'm wondering whether anyone here encountered non-duality before developing some of the basic human capacities that most people seem to take for granted.

I spent roughly 10–15 years socially isolated. My family had very little language for emotional complexity. Pain was generally met with distraction, humor, judgment, drinking, or an attempt to return everyone to “feeling okay.” I entered adulthood without much experience forming real friendships, expressing myself directly, tolerating relational uncertainty, or developing a stable social identity.

Then I found non-duality.

The absence of a separate chooser made sense to me in a way most conventional psychological language did not. It was obvious that thoughts, desires, actions, personalities, and defenses arose from conditions that the individual had not selected. This recognition brought real relief from self-condemnation and, at times, from the burden of feeling like the author and manager of everything.

But the developmental structure of the organism remained.

I sometimes feel that I learned non-duality from the back end. I saw through the supposed controller before the apparent person had learned how to participate in ordinary human life. There was insight into conditioning and the emptiness of personal authorship, but very little practical ability to relate, belong, communicate, or be emotionally known.

Recently I entered the workforce after years of stagnation. During the first few months, the situation felt extremely consequential. Because failure seemed unacceptable, there was less space for self-management. A more patient, gentle, restrained, and considerate version of me emerged. People responded positively to it.

Now that the job has become familiar and safer, psychological management has returned. There is concern with preserving respect, monitoring status, replaying conversations, becoming attached to attention, and trying to maintain the identity that formed around how people initially saw me.

I know there is no independent entity doing this. The management itself is conditioned activity. The desire to stop managing is also conditioned activity. Even the attempt to “remain as awareness” can become another movement of control.

Intellectually, that is clear.

But there is still enormous loneliness and relational hunger in the organism. When someone appears to value me, the response can become disproportionate because being valued has been so scarce. A person’s attention starts to feel like a possible rescue from an entire life. Then thought builds futures, rehearses interactions, tries to secure the connection, and turns what might have been natural affection into a management project.

Saying “there is nobody who is lonely” does not seem sufficient here. It may be ultimately accurate, but it can also function as a way of refusing to look at what is arising on the human level.

There are moments when personal authorship falls away and there is real peace. But that peace has not magically supplied the organism with friendship, social development, emotional regulation, or a community capable of meeting it. The body-mind still appears to need conditions that support connection.

In fact, non-duality has not pushed me away from people. It has increasingly expressed itself through them. People have become where the teaching is happening. Attraction, shame, kindness, status, tenderness, manipulation, fear, and love are now the material. The “path,” for lack of a better word, has moved out of abstract consciousness and into relationships.

That has made things much more alive, but also much more painful.

I am looking for someone who can hold both of these facts at once:

There is no autonomous individual authoring this life.

And this particular organism has been shaped by isolation, emotional scarcity, and arrested development, and appears to need real human relationship—not merely another explanation of why the one needing it cannot be found.

I’m also aware that writing this is itself partly an attempt to be recognized. My mind can treat a post like a lottery ticket: perhaps somebody will finally understand, and that understanding will make me feel real or valuable. I don’t want to hide that motive behind spiritual language. It is also simply something arising from the conditions.

At the level of Transcendental Reality or Pārmārthik Tal, it's definitely the ultimate truth, but at the level of practical reality or Vyavahārik Tal, there's this jivātma addressed as "the ego" which is the experienced or lived reality. It is in a continuous journey of it's own dissolution to be liberated from itself in the light of Transcendental Reality or Pārmārthik Tal.

What are your views on it?

Discussion On Trial for Existing

Recently the restaurant staff ignored our group of four and served others who arrived later.

Such an event can be a harmless background ripple within an infinitely peaceful existence, but to most people it’s an outrage. A guilty verdict must be rendered and suitable punishment must follow... all covering up the wound of “not worthy of being seen”.

Events are just happening. The waitstaff did not “see” or “fail to see” anyone in any ultimate sense. Movements occurred. The universe delivered.

The constructed person cannot tolerate this. When the expected service failed to arrive, it felt like an existential threat. Everything in our society runs like a courtroom. The courtroom convened.

The Prosecution: They are guilty of rudeness, incompetence, disrespect.
The Defense: We are innocent customers who did nothing wrong.
The Verdict: We have been wronged.
The Sentence: They must suffer: anger, complaint, withdrawal of tip, bad review, bitterness.

Underneath the anger is a wound: “I was not seen, therefore I am unworthy.” This is to reconstitute the self after an imagined collapse.

Nisargadatta said that the person lives in fantasy and fear.

“Should we not stand up for ourselves? Are we to be doormats?” This confuses inner silence with outer passivity.

Nisargadatta acted in the world with directness when needed. But he did so without a grievance. The waiter can be addressed, or not. The noise of outrage belongs to the person who feels their existence has been put on trial.

This was about a lifetime of believing that to be seen by others is the same as being real. The miracle of abiding in the “I Am” is discovering that you are already the seeing itself. No waiter, no friends, no mirrors are required.

Someone asked, ‘Why are you peaceful with this injustice?’

No matter the reply, I will immediately be put on trial in the courtroom. I will be judged guilty of weakness and passivity. If I say I do not want to be in a courtroom, I will be branded as a failed person, to be punished with disrespect.

To society, there is no life outside the courtroom. It cannot be imagined. Courtroom participants are struggling for the peace of their own (temporary) acquittal. That is only found outside the courtroom, a place in another paradigm. One they cannot leave.

Quote/Pic/Meme Once you have awakened into reality, you stay in it. ~ Nisargadatta Maharaj

Q: Were you always like this from the first moment of enlightenment?

M: The three states rotate as usual -- there is waking and sleeping and waking again, but they do not happen to me. They just happen. To me nothing ever happens. There is something changeless, motionless, immovable, rocklike, unassailable; a solid mass of pure being-consciousness-bliss. I am never out of it. Nothing can take me out of it, no torture, no calamity.

Q: Yet, you are conscious!

M: Yes and no. There is peace -- deep, immense, unshakeable. Events are registered in memory, but are of no importance. I am hardly aware of them.

Q: If I understand you rightly, this state did not come by cultivation.

M: There was no coming. It was so -- always. There was discovery and it was sudden. Just as at birth you discover the world suddenly, as suddenly I discovered my real being.

Q: Was it clouded over and your sadhana dissolved the mist? When your true state became clear to you, did it remain clear, or did it get obscured again? Is your condition permanent or intermittent?

M: Absolutely steady. Whatever I may do, it stays like a rock -- motionless. Once you have awakened into reality, you stay in it. A child does not return to the womb! It is a simple state, smaller than the smallest, bigger than the biggest. It is self-evident and yet beyond description.

Q: Is there a way to it?

M: Everything can become a way, provided you are interested. Just puzzling over my words and trying to grasp their full meaning is a sadhana quite sufficient for breaking down the wall.

"You are pure awareness. The world is an illusion, nothing more. When you understand this fully, desire falls away. You find peace." (15.17)

—Enlightenment is recognizing that your true nature is unchanging consciousness, and that the world of objects and desires is illusory.

"You are now and forever free, luminous, transparent, still. The practice of meditation keeps one in bondage." (Ashtavakra Gita 1.15)

"Desire and aversion are of the mind. The mind is never yours. You are free of its turmoil. You are awareness itself, never changing."

'Burn down the forest of ignorance with the fire of the understanding that “I am the one pure awareness,” and be happy and free from distress.'

Discussion Ubuntu

  • Ubuntu in pre-colonial African societies was a guiding principle for governance, justice, and social cohesion. Elders and community leaders resolved conflicts with the goal of restoring harmony rather than punishing offenders. Wealth, resources, and labor circulated through kinship and clan networks, ensuring collective survival. Social, political, and spiritual life was organized around mutual responsibility. Ubuntu was not abstract thought; it was a practical system shaping villages, leadership, caregiving, and belonging across generations.

  • Unlike many Western philosophical traditions that center on individual autonomy, self-interest, and personal achievement. Ubuntu defines humanity through relationships and social interconnectedness. In this system, a person's character and moral worth are measured by how they contribute to the well-being of the community. Generosity, empathy, respect, and accountability are not optional virtues but essential responsibilities. Ubuntu reframes existence as collective: it asks not "Who am I?" but "Who are we becoming together?" through shared care, cooperation, and mutual recognition.

  • An anthropologist proposed a game to children in an African tribe. He put a basket of fruit near a tree and told the children whoever got there first won the sweet fruits. When he told them to run they all took each others hands and ran together, then sat together enjoying their treats. When he asked them why they had run together like that as one could have had all the fruits for himself they said: 'Ubuntu, how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?'

  • Under Ubuntu, justice is rooted in restoration rather than punishment. Wrongdoing is understood as a disruption in relationships, not simply a breach of law. The community, rather than the state alone, plays a central role in healing, reconciliation, and reintegration.

  • In certain regions of South Africa, when someone does something wrong, he is taken to the center of the village and surrounded by his tribe for two days while they speak of all the good he has done. They believe each person is good, yet sometimes we make mistakes, which is really a cry for help. They unite in this ritual to encourage the person to reconnect with his true nature. The belief is that unity and affirmation have more power to change behavior than shame and punishment. This is known as Ubuntu- humanity towards others.

Discussion 0 and 1: the true mind and consciousness

In earlier posts and discussions here, I noticed many threads circling the same interesting topic: how to define the true mind and consciousness. I'd like to continue sharing my teacher's framework on this.

The true mind is "0." It is the only thing that is fully real: a state of completeness with no time, no space, no motion and no rest. The blueprint of all evolution, the seed of all things, lies hidden within it — yet before any disturbance, nothing stirs. 0 needs no practice and no improvement, because it lacks nothing. In the seat of 0, the seer and the seen are one. My teacher calls it the "true-mind universe" — the original of the universe.

Then, the true mind stirs — and that one stir is "1." The Big Bang. In other words, everything began not from emptiness, but from being.

The once-unified 0 divides, and out of that division pour time, space, and the ten thousand things. Everything after this point he calls the "consciousness universe": a 1:1 parallel copy of the true-mind universe, generated voluntarily by 0 in order to observe and experience motion and rest.

This is a self-initiated descent — the complete one willingly divides, so that it can experience itself from the inside. It also means that between the two universes there is no temporal "before," only a dimensional "above" and "below": the consciousness universe moves through the coordinates of time and space, while the true mind remains at the origin of the coordinate system, watching a play it wrote, directed, and performs itself.

The world of 1 — the consciousness universe — runs on duality and comparison. Motion and rest, yes and no, self and other arise in pairs. And you — the one reading this — are one of the countless avatars inside the copy. Through comparing, contrasting, selecting, judging, and deciding, you mistake a continuous stream of information for an independent "person." This experience, computed from the senses and the brain, is vividly real within the world of appearances; but from the standpoint of the final fact, it is actual, yet not the truth. The actual is the image in the mirror; the truth is the unmoving body of the mirror itself. The images genuinely appear and genuinely change — and the mirror has never moved an inch.

But wait — put this way, it doesn't sound so "nondual" anymore, does it? Now we have an absolute and a relative. What do we do with that? My teacher places a distinct third term between the two tiers, called "awareness": the interface between 0 and 1.

Awareness is not an attainment reached through practice, nor a cognition gained through learning — it is the first product of the first stir. His sequence is strict: mind gives rise to awareness, and awareness gives rise to consciousness; 0 births awareness, and only then does awareness birth 1. And awareness can serve as the interface because it is born two-faced: one face toward spirit, one face toward matter. When the two faces are in balance, it simply is 1; when they fall out of balance, it steps down in frequency and scatters into the ten thousand appearances. Without awareness, 0 has no way to express itself as experience; without awareness, experience has no road back to 0 — he compares it to the driver between hardware and software.

This gives practice a precise definition: the return trip is not made by thinking better thoughts (that is 1 talking to itself), but by first stopping the brain's dualistic computation — comparing, contrasting, judging — and letting attention settle back down along the interface of awareness, restoring the operations of "me," little by little, to the seat of the "Self." And of the moment of arrival, my teacher's description is this: the observer and the observed, meeting through awareness, recognize each other as the same one. As for whether three terms still count as "not-two" — he would say the three are a teaching map, not a final inventory: at the destination, 0, 1, and awareness gather back into the one thing they never left. The map is three-tiered; the territory is not-two.

0, 1, awareness — the ceaseless life of the true-mind universe and the consciousness universe.

Thank you to everyone here. If there's interest, in my next post I'd like to share more on the human side.

Accept reality as it is within here/now, rather than live in expectation/desire/attachment for different/better/ideal/whatever.

Accept the past as it was, can't change/improve the past. Can only live/be/act within here/now.

Empathy or in Buddhism, compassion + wisdom + awareness may enable one to understand another beyond 3d limitations.

It may only be empathy that helps one understand another despite differences/separations/limitations.

Discussion Persistence is only an idea

An idea has no persistence. There is an idea of persistence, that is all. That is what persists.

There cannot be a thing knowing it persists. A persistent thing does not know. A persistent thing and an idea of persistence would constitute a duality.

Nothing actually persists. What persists is the belief that this existed previously. That is necessary and sufficient for apparent persistence, but not actual persistence.

Question/Advice Nonduality and mental formations

There is this idea that nonduality is purely about the death/exhaustion of illusory sense of self.

But it's also benificial in the manifest world, it can make you have a healthier life, it's like you want the last scene in the matrix movie vs making the matrix a better place to live in.

If for example you have an addiction, then you ask who is addicted and don't find a point that receives the addiction, then that actually releases some of the addiction energy.

Same with hatered, who hates? And who is Hated? Where inside the body of the hated person is that person ?,

Other questions like where is the relationship between my discomforts and me? And if found is it actually a relationship or just another thing?, does the discomfort have a point that transmits discomfort outside itself?, if not, then how come it's a discomfort?

So you can even have questions inside questions like a mental model to help you dig deeper from the surface of the manifest into its core

Forms are like raw material that can be cracked to generate energy, if I keep going back into the same pattern that means the cost-benifit is bad, Iam losing more than iam gaining out of it and keep trying once more like how the matrix was designed for neo or the web2 algorithm, on the hope I would 'win' more than lose from it this time

I like to ask myself how can for example scrolling on social media be the best possible experience?, I know it's designed not to satisfy me, so I imagine a scenario were it does, and keep imagining an even better one, at one point I can see the feeling am trying to get out of it and laugh

Its like when Churchill saw the German cities burned he said that his hatred for the Germans was gone. Now this is a more ritualistic sick way to transmute your hatred into emptiness but you get the idea,

In manifestation it's not a mechanical thing that you are free from forms right away, but it kind of steers or guides you to transcend in the long term، specially if you give it more of your time.

You can lose the self yet still be entangeled with this and that.
