Work in progress.

A commissioned do over piece after the original fell out of the installation my clients had made for this custom made window. It will go into a decommissioned fireplace and be lit from behind with lights they had installed.
Glass on glass mosaic is not my favorite to work with. Always something that isn’t quite right. But getting paid is nice. I am using Nano470 construction grade adhesive. You HAVE to really learn how to work with this adhesive and all the ways it can go wrong on ya. It’s very unforgiving. 🥴

Cloud cat is finished and displayed proudly! Will post better photos on my Instagram but I always share here first 😅. The colors don’t really pick up well on camera but hopefully you like him!!!

First project!

Made this outdoor table with my street name. I took inspiration from the mosaic stop names you see in the NYC SUBWAY. I thought the gray grout would be much lighter, but I think it still looks good. Open to feedback as it was my first project!

9"x9". Lots of lessons learned. I'm debating if I should tint the thinset darker on this one. I have a good idea of what I'm doing next.

Needs some cleaning off but I just finished this end table I was given. I’d say it’s about 14” in diameter for reference. Was based off some koi I saw at a botanical garden for my birthday

I fell in love with this art work on a recent visit to the jungle of the Yucatán Peniaula. The photo doesn’t do justice to the way it captured light but it is still a sight to behold even with my lack of photography skill. It’s brilliant and I adore monkey’s, have my whole life. Who doesn’t?
I’m curious to know if there are any artists here who I could commission to make me this?

Thought I'd show off my first two attempts at this mosaic this. Tbh, I may be addicted. I'm so tempted by all the lovely tile colours. It's probably for the best that I don't have a walk-in mosaic shop near me

If there's anyone from Australia, can you recommend any particular suppliers and/or brands?

Update on my first mosaic!

I posted this previously to get grouting advice and settled on dark grey. Thank you all for all the recommendations and tips! I also used the grouter app.

The finished piece is duller after grouting for sure since I used stones that were kinda porous, but I definitely prefer grout to no grout. I sanded the piece after with sandpaper to clean it up and I think it’s decent enough.

I had to actually regrout this 4 times as the border tiles kept falling off. I was a noob and thought the grout would hold the pieces together, so I didn’t even glue the border pieces on 😂 but oh well, lesson learnt. I already made a second different piece with white grout which is also wayyy easier to clean

First mosaic! + tips for sharp bits?

Post image

Took a workshop so I was limited on time, but happy with how it turned out. Such a fun medium!

One issue I've run into is that there are a couple of pieces that are basically shards - still very sharp and pokey, even after grouting. Would sanding them at this point work? What would you use?

TIA for your help!

This is my first ever mosaic and I’m scared to ruin it by choosing the wrong grout color. Does anyone have any opinions/advice?

Also any general advice for mosaic making would be appreciated :)

My second mosaic! Still learning :)

Here's a before & after of my second mosaic, a Southern Ring-Necked Snake! It was created with a few plates from the thrift store & charcoal grout. Overall I feel like I improved a bit since my last mosaic, at least with contrast. I think I would place the tesserae closer together next time & maybe try two grout colors (snake dark, background light). I bought a few premade tiles to try out for my next project since the plates can be a bit challenging to work with at times.

Open to some critiques / suggestions / etc. Thanks in advance :)

Grout tips?

Does anyone have good tips for grouting?

Almost every time I grout something, it cracks in multiple areas and it always bums me out. I feel like it kinda ruins the piece.

I use a damp sponge to wipe away excess grout about 15-20 minutes after applying (what most of the pre-mixes and mixes seem to recommend). Maybe I end up removing too much??

I'm still pretty new to creating mosaics, but after grouting a few projects and getting cracks, I'm scared to do the next one because I don't want all of my work to end up looking meh because of cracks and flecking!

Help! How can I get better at grouting?!

Where to start? I have been following this sub for a while and want to take a stab at this art. Can anyone guide me to product details, learning videos? Thank you so much!

WIP - Cloud Cat! Sister piece to Space Cat

Wanted to make a daytime themed companion for my previous mosaic, Space Cat. This one has taken me almost twice as long but hopefully is getting to the point of starting to look like a cloud 😂. I feel like I don’t celebrate long haired cats enough so wanted to capture lots of puffiness and fluffiness which is a little hard to do with glass lol

Work in progress but planning for it to eventually go outside on some concrete steps. Did I mess up by not leaving enough space between the tiles?

Hi crafty people! I am trying to do a last name wedding sign and trying to figure out if my spacing is too far apart. Any suggestions are welcomed as this is my first time ever making mosaic art. Thanks!

Haven't posted progress in a while but my first mosaic is very close to be done.

I'm conscious some details feel off but overall quite happy with the result. Let me know what you think.
