anyone got any cool spots

i know people want to keep theirs private but i'm wondering if there's any nice spots in thanet. just to drive to and relax, wondering if there's any random backroad that leads to somewhere nice with a view. i'm bored of going to the sea and seeing the same things

Posts about guy sleeping rough under promenade

I’ve seen a couple of posts on Instagram about the guy sleeping rough near the seafront. He seems to have popped up in the past couple of months. He doesn’t seem well at all and believe people have reported him. I saw a post today saying he had his pants down in the middle of the street laying down urinating and sitting in piles of sick. Does anyone know his story or if he’s wanting help?

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Thanet?

I ask as part of a linguistic study looking at this topic!

Examples could include things like Rammo, Westwood Chaos or Broadie...

incl. nicknames for schools & other institutions, parks, geographical features etc.

Anyone here at the Margate show last night? I like to vlog my concert experiences and I will say straight up that this was a great one. Also, Dreamland is something else entirely!

Hey folks. I’m a game designer and games educator living and working in Margate.

It’s very rare to see a small indie games focussed event in Margate, so when I saw that Crab Museum were doing a game launch last month I popped down to see what it was all about.

Male loneliness and mental health

Hello Margate-folk,

For all the privileges many men experience in life in the UK, one area where males can often struggle is building deeper connections with others and having someone to talk to about their mental wellbeing.

As men move through adulthood, building careers and families, they sometimes find that their male friendships have dwindled.  Studies show that men in the UK may:

  • Be less likely to admit loneliness directly.
  • Rely more heavily on a spouse or partner for emotional support.
  • Typically have smaller emotional-support networks than women.

A significant number of men are chronically lonely, reporting that no-one really knows them or their inner struggles.  Sadly, suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK.

But there are groups and support services out there, helping men to connect and thrive.  I wanted to signpost you to a wonderful men’s community group in the Thanet area, called ManSpace.

https://www.manspace.community/

Manspace’s mission is to create safe spaces for men to share their experience in order to support and be supported. We encourage our members to build positive masculine bonds and experience vulnerability of all kinds, together. We’re striving for a wide community of men who realise that true healing stems from dealing with pain and not concealing it - and that our true strength is found in allowing ourselves to be vulnerable with each other.

I moved into the Thanet area this time last year, and didn’t have any connections or friendships in the area.  As soon as I joined the ManSpace fellowship, I found loads of warm, friendly and inclusive guys who welcomed me into their friendship group.  There are men of all ages and backgrounds, and we do a range of activities together – including meetings, walk-and-talks and social evenings.

ManSpace meets in person on a weekly basis, in two locations:

---------------

MARGATE

Mondays at 7pm

101 SOCIAL

101 NORTHDOWN RD

CLIFTONVILLE

CT9 2QY

--------------

RAMSGATE

Thursdays at 7pm

RADFORD HOUSE

18-20 EFFINGHAM ST

RAMSGATE

CT11 9AT

-------------

If you’re a man who’d like to build more connections locally – or you know someone who might benefit – please check out our website above.

And if you have any questions about ManSpace, feel free to drop me a message and I’d be delighted to chat 😊

Best wishes to all.

Train back to London after gig

I’m at a Dreamland gig on Friday 19th June and am hoping to travel back to London afterwards. I see the last train is 23:15, but does anyone know whether it’s likely we can get on it? We don’t want to be stuck in a crowd at the station and then stranded! Many thanks.

How do you get into Limbo? Spoiler

I'm on holiday in Margate. I tried to get into Limbo today, it did say it would be open. All I could see though was an unfriendly looking goods gate and a fire escape. Do you literally have to go up the fire escape to get in? There didn't seem to be any other entrance. Or is it not open at the moment, eg there might not be an exhibition on or something? I would like to try again tomorrow!

Looking for casual MTG players in Margate

🧙 A friendly group of geeks in Margate is looking for more people to join our casual Magic: The Gathering playgroup.

It’s completely free — you don’t need to own or buy any cards, just show up and have fun.

Beginners are very welcome. We’ll be playing Cube format (if you know what that is, great, if not, we’re happy to teach you).

📩 Interested? Drop a DM and I’ll send you the WhatsApp chat link.

Know someone who might enjoy this? Send this their way.

And if you happen to have spare MTG cards gathering dust, we’d happily take donations too.

Visiting Margate for the first time in April, what are some things I shouldn’t miss?

I’m after some good food (vegan if possible!), quirky shops, nature walks, beaches etc.

Anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!

I had to go take a look on the platform because it's been decades since I've been here, oh the memories came rushing back, remembering all the day trippers and holiday makers that were so excited to be here at Margate and looking forward to the beautiful Margate sands and Bembom Brothers Dreamland "White Knuckle Theme Park" with Network Southeast return tickets and free entry too, oh how we loved the Mary Rose, Big Wheel, Looping Star and the original Scenic Railway, Water Chute 💦 along with all the other attractions. Those were the good old days, wish I could go back in time!!

Carpooling Margate - London Regular journeys

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Not sure it this is okay to post here so please remove if not and accept my apologies.

Me and my partner moved to Margate in November but we still work in London. We drive from Cliftonville to Abbey Wood Monday , Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Leaving at 6am (arriving 8 at AW station) and coming back from Abbey wood at 5:45ish arriving 7:30-7:45 depending on traffic. We also have a super friendly Cavalier King Charles traveling with us so happy to share with other pets as long as they are car trained and happy.

As costs are spiraling out of control (thank you Trump), we’ve been trying to find other people that may commute or travel occasionally to share our journey with. Happy to be the driver or passenger.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Thank you!
