So, I’m writing this post here and not on the official LU4 forums because I don’t want to get banned or marked by the admins. But I know they are reading this subreddit.
Contrary to what most people might think, there are actual LU4 players on here, and I am one of them.
I’ve been playing for about 4 months and have around 5–6 characters. Yes, I multi-box. I actually think boxing is cool because you can level your own buffers and be fully self-sufficient. I run more than 2 boxes, and I’m fine with the way things are. I even pay for 4 subscriptions and I’m okay with it. Some people might find that repelling, but honestly, when you have 4 characters, you actually have to level all 4, buy them gear, and invest the time. I didn’t buy any of my characters; I genuinely enjoy the grind and the leveling process.
I was excited for the recent patch like everyone else, and the patch was cool. Sure, it's an alpha so it wasn't perfect, but it was fine.
But the monetization system that is slowly being rolled out is absolutely killing the game for me.
- First, it was Auto-Loot: If you run with auto-loot, you basically don't have to engage with the game as much. You don't have to maneuver around, and they even give you a running speed bonus in town. You no longer actively collect loot—in fact, you forget all about it. You just kill mobs, and the gameplay becomes boring and mindless. Sure, you can opt out, but doing so harms your progression.
- Next came "Auto-Assist": There are already talks and leaks about an auto-assist feature, meaning your boxes/party members will be able to perform auto-attacks and skills. A guy with 2 PCs and auto-loot will soon be able to run a fully automated squad of bots. That is starting to feel incredibly unfair. They haven't officially released auto-assist yet, but it was accidentally live for an hour between patches, so their intentions are crystal clear. They retracted it for now, but it's bound to return.
- Tomorrow's Update: Two new forms of monetization are dropping. Extra storage/selling slots for players, and a type of EXP scroll.
Let’s sum up what they have done to the game so far:
- If you pay for premium, you get 50% more EXP.
- If you buy auto-loot, you don't have to farm as hard.
- You will soon be able to run auto-assist on multiple PCs to completely out-compete anyone playing normally.
- You can now buy extra sell spots and storage. Coincidentally, they just raised the minimum level required to open a player shop from level 5 to 10, purposely making it more of a hassle to create free "shop alt" characters so you'll buy the slots instead.
- But worry not, you can also just buy EXP scrolls to skip the leveling process even more.
Every single one of these updates kills the game a little more for me. What new player is going to look at this and want to join? Do the devs want more money because they are genuinely lacking resources, or are they just milking the cow to the absolute max?
I feel like the admins are intentionally making the EXP slope brutal just so they can monetize the gap. They are creating the problem and selling the solution. Every single one of these monetization shifts always starts with the classic line: "We don't want to be pay-to-win." Bruh. You are in literal pre-alpha and it's already starting to look disgusting.
The irony is that the server is teeming with people. The demand for a hard, x1 rate, no-comfortable-BS old-school experience exists, and it rocks hard. But the devs are actively killing it.
Sell cosmetics or something, don't add 20 layers of monetization that is basically pay2win. Stop with this gameplay bullshit before it's too late.
I came home today hoping to play, but after reading the patch notes... Fuck it. I don't want to play and put hard work into leveling my characters just to watch the fruits of my labor get devalued because everyone else can just buy their way through. Usually a game starts ok and gets better, here they start at peak and are just going down. You can make all the visuals you want but if the game repulsing then it's not worth it.
Sad rant over.
