Looks like Office Dog posted the rulebook on Board Game Geek! Sadly, I am not listed as a playtester But see for yourself how to play this game, especially if you have tickets at Gencon!

Our group is starting up a 4e game again. Weve played since 1e but its been a longggggggg time since we played 4e and they prefer that edition. One of the questions that came up and was, because its very vague in the rules, is how people handle the timing on touch of the void.
We have a shiba bushi who got touch of the void from a heritage roll.
Two questions:
When he uses his 1st rank Shiba bushi ability to spend 2 void points instead of 1, is that 2 willpower rolls or one combined roll?
Second question, when are the willpower rolls made, before the action or after. So if he uses his ability to spend 2 void points, and fails the one (or two) willpower rolls, is he dazed immediately cancelling his attack? Or does his attack go off then then he can make the willpower rolls.

Hi.
I have a question concerning the reading of techniques that have the following "As an Attack and Movement action" in their activation rules. This is for the 5th edition.
Does it mean that the character does a Movement Action to move 1 range with optiontally the check to move 1 more, then an attack. Or is it simply that the Technique counts as a Mouvement action in case it would trigger some other effects?
Thank you.

My new blog post, coming from a discussion that happened in the Rokugan discord a little time ago, about using different colors of dice to represent Strife in a game without needing specialty dice.
It developed into a full adaptation of Strife rules and complex social combat rules for L5R 4e:

for the last 6 years i played a Mirumoto Taoist Swordsman to rank 5 and now i was close to becoming a master sensei rank 2. the other players in the camapaign switched chars and/or died so they are rank 4, 4 and 3. lately i started dominating the encounters a lot and so with a heavy heart i offered my gm to switch character.
so far so good - the others are more rogue like chars and they will be living that part a lot more openly without my hardass samurai. one of em is a fresh ronin (former kakita duelist) and the other basically a wildling unicorn and the last one a stormcaptain of the mantis. my gm asked me if i could imagine playing a monk that ties them a bit more together and i am even allowed to start at rank 3. now i am sitting in front of the books and realize i have no idea how to build a monk i was imagining someone very mobile and a bit stealthy that can fight spirits and tainted things (something like chinese ghost story style wise). what can i do what can i build what can i read ? pls help

Hello there! In a few days I'm going to finally be able to try this amazing game and usually I like getting all lore I can about the class I'm playing. The thing is, for the love of Shinjo, I can't find any info about this school outside the flavour text in Children of the Five Winds.
I'm missing something or the school is that new that we don't have much lore to go with?
Can someone give me some pointers about the Silent Shadow?

When Hantei XXIX sentenced Akodo Toturi to lose his family name, and dissolved the entire Akodo family (original timeline), did this include the Akodo Bushi/War College School as well?
This question popped into my head yesterday and I am posing it here because I've concluded that I have no idea. Here's the dilemma as I see it:
- The Akodo family is gone, but there are a number of Lion of the Matsu, Ikoma, and even Kitsu families, and even one Crane, who were former students of the Akodo School. I find it hard to imagine that they just gave up their hard earned Techniques because of a political quandry.
- I also find it difficult to fathom that the Lion, as a clan, having already lost an entre major family, would want to lose an entire school as well.
So what do you think? Did the Lion keep the School and the Techniques going? Were the Techniques lost with the family? I haven't found any lore that touches on this.

So I just this week found out about the crowdfunded Champions of Rokugan. I've been a big fan of the franchise since '97, but fell off back in around 2014 or so when life got too hectic. Came back a few months ago, but somehow CoR had flown completely under my radar and now pledges are closed.
Man, that is a lot of really good looking minis to miss out on. Hopefully they get enough into their store that everyone that wants one can get one.

Hola!
Tengo entendido que por la ley los cadaveres deben incinerarse sin excepción. Pero esos restos, dónde los dejan? Existen así como cementerios o todo va a parar a los templos o altares familiares? O qué hacen con esas cenizas?

I have been thinking about how to use the year zero engine for l5r.
Why, well i really want to use it and i also really think it will fit. If you don't know its a dy dice pool with a press your luck system. Your first roll you only count 6s. If that's not enough then you can reroll your non 6 dice. But now 1s are a penality. The game can use these right then or save up for latter. I really like this idea of press your luck and the raises from the original system.
Other then I think just one raise means you need 1 more 6 and divide the tn by 10 to to get the new tn will work out.
Anyone have any experience doing something like this. Any experience with the year zero engine?

The last time I played L5R RPG was before the pandemic hit, and we only had gotten started. The same friend-group does not play anymore, and everyone else I know rather plays other games.
I’ve been yearning for years now, but I don’t even know where to look for a group?

Edit: Sold to a private buyer. Noble Knight got back to me today with an invoice and feeling lucky to have found a buyer. Worked out way better for me and the homie.
hey everyone!
A few years ago a friend of mine and I got into the L5R ccg. Another friend found that out and gave me all his old L5R 1st Ed books as he no longer had space for them and I collected old rulebooks. Fast forward 6 years and I have a kid now as well and am downsizing my rulebook collection before a move because of weight. I have no reference for the value of these because I never played but I would like to sell them and give half the money to the person who gave them to me and was hoping I could refer to yall for some semi accurate pricing.
What I have is
Legend of the Five Rings RPG 1st Edition Core Rulebook (Hardcover - AEG 3001)
The Book of the Shadowlands (Softcover - AEG 3006)
Bearers of Jade: The Second Book of the Shadowlands (Softcover - AEG 3018)
Unexpected Allies (Softcover - AEG 3014)
The Way of the Crab (Softcover - AEG 3007)
The Way of the Crane (Softcover - AEG 3009)
The Way of the Dragon (Softcover - AEG 3003)
The Way of the Lion (Softcover - AEG 3010)
The Way of the Phoenix (Softcover - AEG 3017)
The Way of the Unicorn (Softcover - AEG 3005)
The Way of the Wolf (Softcover - AEG 3025)
The Way of the Minor Clans (Softcover - AEG 3021)

Wondering if anyone has ever attempted to convert the Feast mini-game from Chaosium's Pendragon rpg into one appropriate for the Rokugan setting?
For those unfamiliar with Pendragon, during a Feast mini-game, the players can choose a variety of base activities (Flirting, Gaming, Indulge, Intrigue) each with their own consequences and rewards, or to risk greater rewards/problems by choosing to Draw a feast card. The cards are usually the highlight of the mini-game, as they introduce some wild events and great opportunities for RP. Some examples include "A Test of Strength" in which an NPC knight challenges one of the PCs to a contest or "A Love Poem" in which an NPC knight is trying (and failing) to compose for his lady and asks one of the PCs to help him out.
Obviously there are large differences between medieval European and Japanese feasts, but a bit of research opened up some interesting possibilities:
- Feasts began with Honzen Ryori which was a formal, structured, strict part of the feast. Sedate compared to the stereotypical European version. During this section, the shikisankon, a formal three rounds of drinks were served.
- Following the drinks, the host would announce bureiko or a time in which formal social rank was broken or ignored. This allowed samurai to be loud drunks with each other without fear of political issues. This usually devolved over the course of the night and ended up with a lot of loud entertainment like poetry battles, impromptu plays where samurai acted out the various parts in well known stories, etc.
In the Pendragon version of feasts, players can gain or lose Honor or Glory based on their activities during the mini-game. This seems just as appropriate for a L5R version.
Has anyone attempted this before? Thoughts? I've noticed a number of the published L5R adventures, including the Tournament of the Topaz Champion and Murder at Kyotei Castle feature a feast scene, but the adventure just basically says "the characters have a feast here and this happens", and leave it at that.
Thanks for any opinions or advice!
