Hi everyone! Excited to join the group, as I just recently purchased a 2017 Patriot High Altitude in perfect shape. No cosmetic or mechanical issues in its lifetime and was treated so well it was sold by a Jeep dealer as a Certified-Pre-Owned when first owner traded it in.
My real questions are what are tips (from your personal experiences) to get the most out of the car? It’s my first ever car that I get to call my own and am excited and eager to treat it the best I can. For more information, its never had any major maintenance other than a wheel bearing replacement and normal stuff like tire rotations and brake pad changes. I’ve also bought it at 117k miles and know I’ll be lucky to get 75k extra out of it.
Any information you’ve felt has helped in your time to upkeep the mechanical integrity or maximize the experience/enjoyment of the car is welcome and appreciated! Thanks so much!

Someone is selling a set of 5 nitto ridge grapps in my town for a good price. Now they are 35x12.50 I know that’s insane and it’ll rub like crazy but with spacers can these work temporarily with no lift kit?

This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve done to either of my cars, its so out of place I might have to do the rest of the engine plastics 😂
I know it won’t last long but hey it’s removable

Going to be replacing this week. Just checking if I should be doing it in any particular order? Looking it up didn't specify anything so just wanted to double check with anyone that might know. Thank you

When accelerating and getting up to at least 20 mph, there is a loud knocking sound, and whenever I let off the gas, it stops. I can feel it under the passenger side floorboard, and you can hear it mainly on the right. We just replaced the CV axle because it was slinging grease all under the skid plate, and that did not fix the issue. What could this be?
for context it’s a 2.0 front wheel drive 2016 jeep patriot sport with 100,000 miles on it.

Had a bad rattling when driving, crawled under the car and saw my heat shield fully off the supports just resting on the car. Pulled it out, is it needed? I see mixed opinions online - pretty hot where I am right now 30-35 degrees everyday - so not sure if it is needed.

I heard from a guy on YouTube a quick video that you can remove the exhaust without removing the drives shaft half way to replace the rear subframe? I don't think that's true.

I’ve never heard this knocking sound before. The jeep only has 45k miles on it. I just got the ball joints replaced on 7/3/26. No signal lights flashing on dashboard and it’s not overheating. It just started today and lasted for 20 or so minutes.

I've been hearing a tapping coming from the ac compressor, it still blows out cold Air, I only hear it when I turn on the ac. My uncle left it to me when he passed away, and I started hearing it in May but I've been using it as little as possible. But I have to do something soon because the Midwest heat in Indiana is hot. Any suggestions?

Hello all!
So I’m on the car search (sold my 09 Impala, a decent car and I wouldn’t mind another one or a similar vehicle like a panther car or Buick) BUT am interested in maybe something different… like a patriot/compass
I’ve seen many for sale. Many with the CVT, without the CVT and here’s my question.
If I’m getting a patriot, what should I look for? I looked at a 2011 with 111k miles but the guy has no history on the transmission service (small dealer)
I also know some shops won’t service a CVT at all.
So my question here is, if I’m getting a patriot/compass, what’s my best bet? And what should I ask?dealer or private sale?
I’ve been considering this along with something like Nissan Rogue/Juke (more CVTs) or something like a ford escape.
Thanks for reading!

I am in a really bad spot financially, and I need help knowing how long I have until my car’s engine may give out. My car is old, it is high mileage. I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot Limited with 167k miles. A majority of the miles have been freeway miles, but I understand this is not an ideal start.
About 3 weeks ago I took my car in to my mechanic’s shop because after an oil change it was found that the coolant was empty. It turns out that there was a huge hole in the radiator, which was fixed by my mechanic. My mechanic at that same appointment also replaced the cover for the head gasket. The head gasket itself was replaced at an earlier appointment.
About two weeks later there is white or maybe very light blue/grey smoke coming from my tailpipe. I take it back to the shop immediately. The mechanic tells me that my car’s engine has been overheating. My car’s temperature gauge has never shown anything close to overheating, but I trust my mechanic and perhaps the gauge is really wrong.
My car’s water pump was replaced, and my car’s oil was replaced with thicker oil, the notes say ‘(Note: Engine Oil meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395 such as MOPAR Pennzoil, and Shell Helix.)’ He has advised me to sell because there is something wrong with the engine cylinders. But I don’t have exact specifics on what is wrong with them.
I have never heard any clicking or rattling from the engine, the engine does not idle or run roughly. The check engine light, or any other warning light, has never been on. The tailpipe smoking has not happened again since the last mechanic shop visit.
Currently, I am driving it in incredibly limited amounts. 5 miles to work, 2 miles to the gym, only ever surface streets. Straight home, nothing else. I’m checking coolant levels, I’m not running the air at all. I’m being extremely gentle on her, because I’m really scared. I do plan to sell, but this is my only transportation right now, and after I sell I will not have the finances to afford another car for several months, minimum. I don’t want the engine to give out before I can sell, but I want to know how long you guys think I may realistically have.
Thank you!

My airbag light is on, and it makes a warning sound from time to time. I haven't had any incidents. Any ideas?

Just changed the spark plugs after changing the valve cover gasket last week. There was Oil on all the spark plugs. Thinking about doing motor mounts next. Water pump and tensioners replaced a few months ago maybe a year. Does this noise sound familiar and does the engine sound" bad"?

Hello everyone,
I have a jeep patriot 2007 2.4 127k miles, i had cvt overheating and checked my fluid on cold engine. It read 60mm from a generic dipstick. I siphoned 500ml of fluid and still same measurement. Do i have to suck more? Isn’t weird that the measurement isn’t going down?
