our community needs to do better seriously. we never asked to be born in America y’all made the decision to have us here.

as the images suggest, i have been feeling somewhat confused about myself as of recently. i've been questioning whether i secretly hate myself and my race deep down. i was born here and i've never traveled outside the country before.

i've always spoken "standard" with an american-esque accent (no, i am not "uptown" and neither do my family discourage creole. in fact, they openly speak that way around and towards me). i have gotten somewhat better at speaking patois more recently, but it's not my default manner of speaking.

i've had more of a liking towards "foreign" music and aesthetics and i admittedly don't listen to local music, nor am i able to name artists outside of the major ones. there are also certain cultural attitudes that i contest (i.e: i am atheist/apathetic, pro-queer, pro self-expression and experimentation and pro-choice). i feel too "woke" sometimes as i refrained from using the c-word for indian people after learning about how it is perceived and as mentioned before, i stand up for queer people. it even goes to an extend where i don't find certain things funny, such as jokes poking at personal traits.

i've been questioning whether or not i subconciously hate myself because i admittedly have preferences towards boys of certain races. i don't think i percieve black boys any lower (but i find black girls beautiful, which makes this all the more confusing). i also hold certain opinions that probably don't sound good if i don't elaborate on them or enunciate them properly. i feel so fake and ashamed sometimes.

Hello everyone, I’m a non-Jamaican curious about the uses of pimento leaves (Pimenta dioica, picture here) and West Indian bay (rum) leaves (Pimenta racemosa, picture here) in Jamaican cooking. What is your experience — are they interchangeable? Is one used more commonly than the other? Do they have different uses? Is there a perceptible taste difference?
