They'll even do it with puppies and kittens. Mass produce them in horrible conditions in their private communities then bring them into town and act like it was just a family pet that had a litter.
Yup, and the USDA told them to do it! The government promoted production dog breeding to farmers after WW2 as a “failure-proof” business after a number of disastrous crop failures in the midwestern US.
There was a pet store in my town that sold puppies from an Amish mill. They would put the breeder's name on the info tag for each puppy, and most of them had the same German last name. Reputable breeders don't sell a dozen different breeds or mixed-breeds, but that family did.
100% I live near Amish Country in Ohio, and my grandma once had a job where one of her duties was removing the "Made in China" stickers from small wooden toys that were being sold as "Amish Made."
