Just because they don't use electricity doesn't mean they can't get lit.

u/AverageMako3Enjoyer 4h ago

There’s rumors circulating that you don’t need electricity for LED grow lights and hydroponic systems, some people have made baseless claims you can just put this shit in the ground and weed grows out. I’m gonna need to see some sources tho

9

u/swiftekho 1h ago

You see this? I got this selling weed.

I grows out of the fucking ground!

5

u/react-dnb 1h ago

lol. "See them? They're made out of chicken!"

u/A_mad_goose 48m ago

Kill em get chicken or don’t kill em and eggs come out their arse. You can’t lose!

5

u/bolanrox 1h ago

depending on the group - even the strictest ones use phones / power for business related things.

9

u/tumbleytumbleweed 1h ago

$20 says they buy it from somewhere and repackage it to sell. They do that with vegetables too.

u/Otherwise_Spirit1552 26m ago

Not just them.. food fraud and such is incredibly common at farmers markets. Its not like there is any real enforcement mechanisms to prevent it from taking place or anything like that either...

u/Grumpologist 19m ago

It's not just incredibly common... it's berry common.

u/reapersritehand 11m ago edited 5m ago

The one in ga that got popped for trafficking meth is under alot of scrutiny nowadays

Edit: spelling

u/Otherwise_Spirit1552 6m ago

Under scrutiny for meth... but $20 says you can still buy "locally produced" honey that comes from some bulk barrel from china, or "organic" carrots that the seller got from the local restaurant supply and came from some regular farm wherever etc.

u/reapersritehand 4m ago

True, think they were use lettuce to move the meth, but far enuf from me that I dont kno how it affected the farmers market

u/thatG_evanP 30m ago

Yup. I've heard this from multiple sources

1

u/karlnite 1h ago

They have an electric calculator on their table.

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 17m ago

You mean grow weed in the dirt and then smoke it? That is disgusting!

u/worldsgreatestluver 14m ago

u/CannonM91 2h ago

Actually they can't smoke weed, I used to hang out with an Amish guy named Dave in the midwest when I lived on a farm. Smoking weed was against his religion and he told me the one time he tried it he panicked and ended up praying for the rest of the night. Amish Dave could drink a LOT of fucking whiskey though, he was honestly a helluva guy.

8

u/rdizzy1223 1h ago

Every single large group of amish has their own separate rules. There really is no singular group of "amish" people with the same set of rules. There are hundreds of groups, each with their own rules. I guarantee that some of them can smoke weed.

u/ilmalocchio 36m ago

There's an exception to everything, but let's not let that impede understanding. On the whole, they don't smoke weed. The Amish folks in this photo likely don't smoke, and just justify selling it to other, less-godly people to raise money for their community.

u/CannonM91 57m ago

Interesting, I didn't know that even though it should be obvious lol. Thanks for the info :)

u/karlnite 56m ago

The no central authority is a huge part of what makes them Amish to start. People know the ultra religious part, they’re also super libertarian.

1

u/Ill_Clue1068 1h ago

How in the hell could they drink whiskey but not smoke pot? Can they use pot as medicine?

u/CannonM91 55m ago

I honestly couldn't tell you, it's just what I was told. But just like 50-60 years ago a lot of the USA was also very stigmatized against pot while being alcoholics

u/karlnite 57m ago

They’re not allowed to drink either, they just do. Weed is also a crime a lot of places, that makes it worse.

u/Informal_Visitor 16m ago

I saw one riding an electric scooter that looked just like the ones they normally had. Bro was hitting 30mph going up hill without a single foot touching pavement.

The amount of light wordplay in this thread is honestly bright enough to power a whole barn raising without any electricity at all.

Bong rips for Jedediah and the farm.

3

u/johnny_boy365 4h ago

Even then its not all Amish dont use electricity. Most just dont rely on it like us.

1

u/bolanrox 1h ago

or they are off grid.

Even back in the 80's doing the tours propane powered things were considered ok.

3

u/_stack_underflow_ 1h ago

The Amish is 100% not producing Delta-8, it requires technology to be made. They're reselling.

2

u/Evening_Pea_9132 1h ago

Where I live they got busted reselling food bank produce.

u/drezarious 47m ago

They’re also lying about it being homegrown.

7

u/TheOneWes 4h ago

They do not shun electricity.

They do not participate in systems that require the breaking of the Sabbath so they use generators and buy fuel from a company that doesn't operate on a Sunday.

Go visit an Amish community, You will see power tools and the like

18

u/HPHambino 4h ago

A lot of people also get Amish and Mennonite confused.

9

u/Temporary_Event8451 2h ago

People also just assume shit. Like you mention Indian, Inuit, any group of people and they picture crap out of a text book.

General cutler or whatever his name was literally paid American tribes like a dollar to wear fancy ceremonial garb to take pictures that are still used in history texts.

They destroyed all evidence of American tribal infrastructure and made it seem like they were tent people.

u/AbatedOdin451 30m ago

I mean if you’re relying on pictures in text books to paint a picture for you and not the words then that’s your problem. I learned that the natives of the Americas lived very differently based on tribe and regions. Iroquois nation used long houses and remained stationary as food was abundant and it was easy to farm, then you have tribes that used tent like structures because they traveled/ followed their food sources. Don’t blame the U.S. education system just because you require pictures to understand things, the context was in the words not the picture you fool

1

u/bolanrox 1h ago

or Ohio Amish vs Pennsylvania Amish.

1

u/vicvonqueso 1h ago

A lot of people also think that an Amish using technology makes them a Mennonite

1

u/East_Ad_7127 1h ago

I'm Quaker and people often get that mixed up with Amish as well. They think we all dress like the Quaker Oats guy.

15

u/caserock 4h ago

That's just your local Amish community, there are many different types and several of them are zero-electricity

2

u/bolanrox 1h ago

or are all off grid, Solar, wind, water, generators etc.

2

u/AwesomeHorses 1h ago

Every Amish buggy I’ve seen has electric hazard lights on it, I don’t think zero electricity is very common. I know someone who has an Amish landlord who has a giant tractor.

1

u/vicvonqueso 1h ago

I live in the second largest area for Amish in the entire country and zero-electricity is very very very very rare

0

u/TheOneWes 4h ago

My question would be are they anti-electricity or anti-infrastructure?

8

u/caserock 4h ago

In general, they're against the "English" world. You would hear different reasoning in different areas. Just like any religion, there are many many splinter groups

2

u/TheOneWes 4h ago

Thank you for the info.

1

u/RandomIDoIt90 2h ago

If people are interested in the history of German-American/anglo-American dynamic head to Wikipedia and look up “fancy Dutch.” The separation of the German/English communities was common up until ww1/ww2 era for obvious reasons. Benjamin Franklin despised that German immigrants wouldn’t assimilate to Anglo culture and wrote some essays against them 😂 Growing up my great grandma said we were Penn deustch and great grandpa was raised Mennonite. Very interesting stuff:

6

u/HellAwaitsTheFunny 4h ago

There's many, many variations now. There's some out there in PA where their power tool is a Clydesdale. Others yet showed me their furniture inventory on a mobile app. In 2026 regarding Amish, there is no "they", you need to be specific to the family or branch.

-4

u/Electronic-Rate5497 4h ago

Those aren’t Amish people those are Mennonites
Two different types

Amish don’t use electricity and don’t use air filled tires because only witches ride on air

4

u/ratchman5000 4h ago

There are different types. Old order, New order, and Beachy Amish. The latter being the ones that drive cars, use electricity etc. New order will use battery powered tools, solar power, and farm equipment. There are also many sub groups. What ever happened to the Amish Mafia Don "Lebanon Levi?"

1

u/bolanrox 1h ago

i miss that show! and Vanilla Ice goes Amish (legit show where Ice just fan boys out at the Amish craftsmen's work) or the spin off show.

3

u/ChemicalDull9012 2h ago

My understanding is different sects do different things it's not a everyone does this type of thing

2

u/bolanrox 1h ago

they also seperate work from home. Like they drive cars for work but never at home.

1

u/Suitable_Program_548 1h ago

There are different Amish communities that follow different rules. They are not all the same.

u/karlnite 59m ago

Some Amish communities will consider it not needed, and thus they won’t use it. That’s just the elders though, and their interpretation of things. Lot’s use it if they generate it themselves or buy it not from the government or like you said, a company that sells on the Sabbath.

u/InevitableKitchen943 13m ago

And each community has varying degrees of conservatism.

5

Saw some pretty entertaining Amish show, and one of the guys was a pothead. Guy had been booted out of one or more communities

1

u/Miserable-Yak-8041 1h ago

Just because they sell it doesn’t mean they smoke it.

1

u/Rogue_One24_7 1h ago

That shit isn’t get anyone “lit”. It’s hemp

1

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 1h ago

God never said anything about thou shalt not be getting high. They love cocaine and other recreational drugs too.

1

u/JayFrizz 1h ago

Why do you think they're so chill and nice?

1

u/Baskreiger 1h ago

Do hamish smoke weed? Worst weed i ever bought was from someone who did not smoke

u/Sirgolfs 53m ago

Highmish

u/transientdude 46m ago

Usually they won't, but many are happy to sell it. Even if they think it's wrong, they don't get bothered if you're going to hell.

u/BmxerBarbra 43m ago

Hemp, delta-8, and CBD will not be getting anyone lit, that's why they are legal

u/4Ellie-M 41m ago

This is enough of reason to use reddit

u/Successful-Active810 40m ago

100% natural. No artificial light.

u/technobrendo 38m ago

Number four, I know you heard this before.
Never get high on your own supply

I wonder if they obey the 10 crack commandments or not.

u/El-Grande- 36m ago

It’s delta 8 and CBD….. good luck getting lit

u/Doorknob6941 11m ago

You win the internet today.

u/Remarkable_Body586 8m ago

Race cars don’t need headlight because the track is always lit.

Yeah, well so is my uncle but he still needs headlights.

Buenísimo comentario

1

u/BernTheWritch 2h ago

Doesn't the Bible specifically prohibit sorcery?

By that I mean from is original text of pharmakeia and pharmakon, meaning to use or administer potions/drugs?

0

u/Nyetoner 2h ago

That's pretty much the Muslim way as well. They might not get drunk on alcohol, but they often have some mighty good weed!

2

u/Starspiker 2h ago

Technically smoking weed is also haram like alcohol is - anything intoxicating is forbidden outside of medical use.

1

u/TundieRice 1h ago

For some reason I could’ve sworn tobacco was technically halal for them.

0

u/PackersBeat 1h ago

Except most do use electricity now.
