Need help identifying your dog? Here are some important tips to help you succeed.

What to include in your post:

Post clear, well-lit, full body pictures. At minimum, include:

  • One standing side view (taken close enough to see coat texture)
  • One frontal view

Tell us your dog’s age and weight (or best guess)

Other helpful information:

YOUNG PUPPIES may be impossible to identify. Head and body shape, coat color and coat pattern, eye color, and apparent coat texture can all change dramatically as a puppy matures. You might want to wait a few months before seeking an ID.

MIXED-BREED dogs can easily have many breeds in them, not just two. Keep in mind that some of the breeds in a mutt may not show in its looks; while in other cases the dog may really look like it has some particular breed in it, when in fact it doesn’t.

NO-BREED dogs exist too! Sometimes a mutt truly is “just a mutt” — the result of many, many generations of random mating between mutts, with no discernable inbred (purebred) genes its DNA. In the same way that YOU don't necessarily have any inbreeding (purebreeding) in your recent family tree, neither must a dog. They can simply be mutts — WHICH IS A GOOD THING!

Solved Found on the frontline

I found this little puppy in a town on the Ukrainian frontline. She had a very bad flea and mange infestation, and ended up catching Parvovirus too, but now she is okay.

I have had everyone asking me what breed she is, and quite a few people suggesting what she could be.

An older gentleman who used to be a game warden suggested she is part wolf with someone else suggesting Kanming, but I don't know about any of that.

I'm starting to think it is just a very strong mutt with traints from everywhere.

If additional specific photos are needed I can try to get her to stand still long enough for a couple.

Added picture of his mom, Ophelia, at the end.

Pictures from 7 weeks to 7 months. He currently weighs 42 lbs. Super quirky, smart dog. We plan to do a DNA test soon but I'm dying to know what people think. When we take him out people always comment on his personality and his brindle.

Open Help identifying a cattle dog

I got my dog from Best Friends and she is an absolute gem, I believe she's a cattle dog as she likes to herd small animals like the chickens where I work (I haven't seen her interact with cattle but she isn't bothered by horses) She's incredibly well behaved and well trained (the pound held her for 2 months and then best friends for a month as they were certain she was someone's dog) she knows how to sit, stand, shake, speak, sic and heel all on command. I never have her on a leash and she wants to be by my side 24/7. She has about a 4 foot vertical jump and 6 foot horizontal jump, she's about 40 lbs and was chunky when I got her but has since slimmed up due to constant exercise (I work on a ranch and she is constantly off leash and running around) I can tell her to stay and she will sit in that spot for hours until I tell her not to. She is also deathly afraid of water and gets upset at even hearing running water. I think she's an Australian Kelpie, specifically a barb coat. Thank you for your assistance!!!

This is Bean, I got him off of Craigslist for $100 in 2016. He’s 10 years and 5 months now. The pictures span across 10 years. We know for certain he’s some chihuahua, when we picked him up there was a white chihuahua and a dog they said was a pug, but definitely looked like a small bully. In 2-3 weeks I’ll know for certain, but for now, what do you think!
We were told he was a Chihuahua/Pug Mia

As the title says, my family got this cutie while I was on vacation. They paid $25 for her. For reference she is pretty small. I’m thinking maybe Australian shepherd? I’d love to hear your guesses! Also I apologize about the wonky photos she wouldn’t hold still xD Thank you!

EDIT - Thank you to everyone who has offered their guesses or given respectful polite advice. I do genuinely appreciate it. I will be DNA testing her and I’ll post an update here if allowed. Have a lovely day everyone! Also following advice from here we did call and confirm with the vets and her shots and worming is legit.

Picked up this pretty boy. He is settling in with the family quite well. He was labeled as a malamute. Bone structure isn't strong enough for that. He weighs 26lbs. Our vet wants him to put on some more weight. He estimated to be at a year old. What are your thoughts on breed/mix? Definitely arctic breeds. We are considering picking up one of the DNA kits in the future

Got my buddy from the humane society back in January. He’s a 3 almost 4 year old & from what I believe to be a boxer-mix. I just want some opinions from some of you to hear your thoughts, I’ve debated getting a dna test but it’s not of super importance. I’m thinking boxer/lab or even a boxer/sighthound mix with the deep chest and long athletic legs. He’s super agile and athletic, but he’s a big couch potato when inside. Thanks!

I was at the park with my kids when some guy left this baby there as a tiny puppy. We brought him home and we think he looks like an American pitbull terrier and Australian cattle dog, based on googling pictures of him. I’m going to get him a DNA test when I can but for now I’m curious about what people think he may be. I would love to know if he’s a pitbull so I can train him properly but for now we’re just assuming he’s a pitbull and training him based on that which I’m not sure is the right thing to do since he’s my first puppy. Any help is very appreciated!

We got Auggie 2 years ago at the shelter. They said her mom is a pure bred shih tzu and her dad might be a weenie, but I don't know if I see any weenie in her.

Wondering what my two rescues are

The smaller one showed up on our property about 12 years ago and we never found an owner so kept him. He definitely has beagle in him, he has the voice and all. The bigger one was just adopted a month ago. The rescue had him as a beagle mix, but we are split on what the mix is. I think hound, my boyfriend thinks lab, and potentially not beagle at all??
Any help is appreciated!

He was adopted at an estimated age of 4 months, as a “Bloodhound Mix”. The sweetest dog on the planet, a little nibbly, likes to stand and paw up the people he loves… Slinky.

We have heard guesses from Redbone Coonhound, Foxhound, to Rhodesian Ridgeback and mixes of those with Beagles, Labs and others.

Just adopted this 8 month old pup. Rescued from 4 months crated 24/7 bless him. Was told mum was Staffordshire bull terrier and then dad was unknown. Closest thing I’ve seen is jackwieller. Do we have any other suggestions?
Edit: He’s planned to be snipped at a year old as advice was can have negative effects on growth if done before.
