I’m just curious what everyone is feeding their yearlings?
My new 2yo gelding is currently on a high quality Timothy/alfalfa hay, with some access to grass. He has a previous knee/shoulder injury, so I’d love to also have some supplements to help him recover! any tips are appreciated 😊

I have had this horse for several years now and although it’s had a lot of training under its belt, it can’t seem to be comfortable in the contact. I am an experienced rider so i’m looking for unique but effective exercises and/or tools to help it relax into the bit. The horse is quite fussy and makes it hard to ask questions. It is also very sensitive and always has been so they go in a rubber snaffle.

How can I get it more comfortable in the contact? the horse is in a program and knows what is being asked but is just dramatic about the aids. I have tried different bits, nosebands. etc. I am looking for tools or good exercises, anything helps though!!

I’ve currently done only 4 hours of training and am already capable of sitting trot and posting without a lead or lead horse. I’m wondering if this is quick learning and if it’s worth it for me to continue riding. Please help me decide. Also sorry if this doesn’t make sense as I’m not familiar with what everything is called in English.

Hi everyone! I care about horses more than anything in the world, and I am working on researching different topics in the horse world but I have hit a wall recently with tack/bits. So many people understand bit and tack mechanics, and I struggle wondering where they get this information. It all feels like a mystery and that there is a whole new world out there that I don’t know about. I am very afraid that if I do find information out there that it will be inaccurate, as I have learned over the years that it is very hard to trust the information you are fed by horse people because of the constant flood of misinformation and people that don’t have horse welfare at the top of their priority. Any and all resources are appreciated. How did you learn about bit/tack mechanics? What’s the best way to find accurate/trustworthy information on tack/bits? I want to work on creating a tack library for myself explaining the mechanics and severity of specific bits and tack so I can better grasp the current welfare issues caused by these tools. Hello folks, I need your advice.

I used to make money from horse racing, but I don't anymore. I used to watch the live video and trade the odds on Betfair. Nowadays, there are so many drones and faster live feeds that other people can trade much more quickly, while my video stream is delayed. Because of that, it's become very difficult for me to make any profit.

Do you have any advice on what I should do? Are there any race callers, on-course commentators, or people who are actually at the racecourse providing live updates about what's happening? I would really appreciate any kind of help or advice.

Meine Tochter liebt Pferde und nimmt Reitstunden auf einem echten Pony. Wie viele pferdeverrückte Kinder würde sie am liebsten jeden Tag mit ihnen verbringen.

Deshalb habe ich in meiner Freizeit fast zwei Jahre lang dieses lebensgroße mechanische Reitpferd für sie entworfen und gebaut.

Es sollte nie das echte Reiten ersetzen. Zuhause ist es aber viel mehr geworden, als nur ein Sitzmöbel. Sie reitet darauf, putzt es, flechtet die Mähne, füttert es, schmückt es und behandelt es wie ihr eigenes Pferd.

Ich bin kein professioneller Handwerker, sondern nur ein Vater, der in seiner Freizeit gerne mit Holz arbeitet. Dies wurde das bisher ambitionierteste Projekt, das ich je in Angriff genommen habe, aber zu sehen, wie sehr sie es liebt, hat all die späten Abende in der Werkstatt gelohnt.

Ich bin wirklich neugierig, was Reiter, Pferdebesitzer und Eltern pferdebegeisterter Kinder dazu sagen.

Would love to buy a horse for the family to cheer for at the track but, wow the monthly costs of a trainer have certainly skyrocketed since back in the day. Anyone know of any trainers in the Ohio/Indiana harness racing market that doesn’t charge thousands a month?

Hello all. I made this account to make a quick post because nobody on Facebook was getting back to me.

I just got a fine stallion from my father's barn the other day after I bought a few acres and moved my girlfriend and I out from his place. I've had him for a couple weeks now and he's been doing just fine. However, I've stumbled upon an issue that's been troubling me all week.

So on the 3rd of July, I had a bunch of folks in the area shooting fireworks. This obviously scared my horse, but it had been going on for hours. It happened again on the 4th of July (God bless 250 years) and I was fed up. I read somewhere online that I should look into sleeping medication for him the day before on the 3rd in case there were fireworks again (which there was until the 5th for some reason). So, I did just that. I gave him a large dose of Morphine pills I had for pain medication cuz they help me sleep at night, a couple handful of pills. A couple hours later, he was knocked out sound asleep. However, he wouldn't wake up until the middle of the day the next day all wobbling in the legs, and sometimes he just collapses and falls back asleep for a bit. Did I give him too much or something? He kind of just wakes up tired now and not much is sobering him up these past few days.

I’ll start: groundwork is just as important as riding, and too many people skip it.

One thing that worries me is the complete lack of regulation—anyone can throw up a social media profile, call themselves an expert, and charge riders for video critiques without any verified credentials.

I’m working on a tech project to build a curated marketplace where the supply side is strictly locked to fully Licensed/Certified coaches, giving riders a vetted database they can trust for remote video diagnostics.

If you have ever purchased a video review or a digital clinic slot from an online trainer, I’d love to know:

• How did you vet that trainer’s ethics and background before sending your video?
• What did you feel was a fair value exchange for a dedicated, 15-minute screen-recorded video critique?
• What is your biggest pet peeve with the current digital tools trainers use to send videos back and forth?

I’m happy to help with cleaning stalls, feeding, grooming, sweeping, organizing, or any other barn chores. I’m mainly looking for a chance to learn, gain experience, and be around horses while working hard ! I’m located in Gresham, Oregon and can travel to nearby barns if needed. I have a background in working on 2-3 sided marketplaces and had an idea to launch one for horse riders, where riders can submit a video and coaches could respond with their feedback, also in a video format.

I’m launching a pilot this month where people can submit via empowerequinecoaching.carrd.co, pay $50 and get their video reviewed by EC registered coaches and also Emily Szabo from GrabMane on TikTok who already has a platform of doing video reviews with her students.

I would love to know what redditors think of this idea, do you ride horses and would you pay for this? I’ve set it all up, what feedback do you have for me?

My last post here was incredibly helpful, so I thought I’d push my luck and ask another question. You guys are the best.

I’m an adult beginner (45, about five lessons in), and I’m realizing one of the hardest parts about learning to ride is that you can’t really practice the actual skill unless you’re on a horse.

I’ve gotten a lot of advice that strength training, balance work, core exercises, and opening up my hips all help, which makes sense. But I’m wondering if there’s anything you do at home that actually helps with riding/technique itself.

I’d love to improve things like:

Posting the trot
Two-point position
Balance and stability
Quiet hands

I’ve looked at the Equalizer, seen people practice on exercise balls, and recently came across something called a wobble stool. Anyone try these?

Have any of you found anything that genuinely translated to better riding? Or is time in the saddle really the only answer?
