Discussion Is the boombox gone now?

Hey All. I have a question.. I am on a replay of the game after many many years away from it, and I noticed the boombox at the lake just.. wasn't there. The teens were there and such, but not the boombox. Was it taken out of the game, or did I cause it to show up some how?

Review My revisit of Firewatch

Frankly, when I first played this game many years ago, I was too young to be playing it and couldn't fully appreciate it. As one hopefully does with age, though, I have developed more into what I enjoy in life and games. I played through it again tonight (commentator version) and I enjoyed every second of it, as though I had never previously been knowledgeable of its existence. Each tape was great, even if Delilah was trying to interrupt my podcast time. You can tell that love was poured into this game, and I experienced that love profoundly. It has left me with a lasting feeling of longing; for what the characters lives were like before and after this storyline, and for a wilderness retreat- preferrably a less "negatively" life-changing one. Such an amazing game and I felt myself being envious of missing the creation of it. Still as great as I remember it and more, 10/10🫂

So i just played the game and afterwards immediately played the commented on version. Its bad. Spoiler

In my first playthrough i needed around 4 hours to get to the ending and i enjoyed the dialouge and really started getting afraid by the "stalkers". I was disappointed by both, who the stalker was and that mc and delilah didnt get together. In the end the story was "some kid fell and died so his crazy father terrorizes random firewatch workers". The gameplay obviously was boring, classic walking sim and the world is not as beautiful as everybody claims. Just look at a random spot in sea of thieves for example and its equally beautiful. Visuals dont save this game.

In the commented version i only needed like 1.5 hours, because i knew where to walk. They praised every aspect of their game in a way that makes them sound like they think they created the next gta. Hilarious.

Dont get me wrong, its not awful, but its also not good. 4/10 max.

Some of you may remember me, I posted here last September about the demo and got a relatively warm reception, so now I want to share that my game Escape the Beach has finally released today!

What is the game about? You find yourself on a tropical beach that you have to escape. There is a female narrator guiding you through the whole experience, asking you questions (multiple-choice like in Firewatch) and making you inspect different objects on the beach. The game gets into surreal and philosophical territory. You also get to learn a lot about the narrator herself.

Be warned though that unlike Firewatch, there is only one environment (the beach), and there are no other people to interact with in the game. I'm selling it for a low price so I hope more people give it a chance!

Firewatch themed Vans

Hey!

One of my friends used to paint shoes as a hobby, but took a little break. Now, she's started again. Look at these Vans she painted for me. We immediately took some photos of them. How cool is that?!
Photos in the post.

I bought this magnet because it reminded me of firewatch

I went to Jasper National Park last week and bought this magnet. It was a really cool find because it’s so reminiscent of the vibes of the game. It was also a bit sad because the town and the park are still recovering from a forest fire 2 years ago.

Discussion Plausibility/Requirements of Applying as a Lookout in the 80s?

I played this game waaaaaay back when and LOVED IT. Played it again this week and thought to myself "wait, how did he manage to get that gig?" Did he have some sort of nature preservation degree other experience? Was there a dire need of lookouts? (if it was implied somewhere, I missed it.) Didn't seem he had every done something like this before.
I'm not trying to tear apart the plot - I think it's great! But in my own head, I was curious of the likelihood of being able to take a job like that without a relative background. (Even the Tower 4 podcast has a guy who applied with zero related experience). Not sure if this was a kind of job anyone (in fiction) could wander up to and get, or if that was in fact how the volunteering aspect work at that time.

Discussion Whats all the hype about?

Just finished the game for the first time. I waited years to play it and was very excited to do so. It costed 20€ and i finished it in two days. I think the storytelling was lazy and forced. Also the ending? Such a let down

But the question is: im i missing something? Is there something i could've done differently to make it more interesting and not disappointing? Please tell me im very open to being wrong abt this!!!

Discussion Does the paper always look like this?

Post image
51 Upvotes

So I'm on my second play through trying to get to day 2 so i can get the "Love Turts" Achievement, and i notice that during the cut scene where i take the paper out of the type writer its just pitch black with no texture, I'm wondering if this is a lighting issue or its just that, does this happen to anybody else?

Discussion Yet another finished the game post... But I wanted to highlight a few suggestions as well.

First of all, what a game. Really enjoyed the whole journey, and even the ending.

However I had some suggestions I'll be mailing to the devs as well, though I can't find an email address on their site.

These mainly have to do with the free roam mode -

1) Please please please add in the camera. I know it would somewhat diminish the whole "we mail your photos to you" thing, but please do consider it. I'm a hobbyist photographer and this game really really scratches that itch with the photography mechanism. Henry can just take out a new spool of film when 24 shots are over (although that makes it less of a disposable camera and more of a film point and shoot, but pleaseee!). I know I can just take a screenshot, but the photography mechanism feels so much nicer. Maybe Henry can actually carry more than one disposable camera, and that switches after 24 shots. Whatever it is, it'll be cool.

It's funny, I've always shot digital irl, but this game actually made me want to buy a dispo camera or atleast a film camera, because of how choosy you have to be.

2) I quickly found out that there are a few interface thingies which sort of interrupt the relaxing experience that free roam is supposed to be - the music icon mainly, along with the text on vistas and the waterfall and similar spots. They make for such nice pictures, but the text doesn't go away.

Discussion I just beat this game in 7 hours! I have some opinions and would like some suggestions, fellow gamers??

I know that's probably kind of long but it is what it is.

Anyway, I did really like the game. The scenery was nice and the story was very engaging.

However, Henry is a pussy and Delilah is a hoe.

Again I did enjoy playing.

I also loved Stray (10/10) and Lake.

I know these three seem a little all over the place but can y'all recommend any other games for me? I have an Xbox One.

Discussion | Spoiler Henry's so called "proneness to being manipulated'' Spoiler

I know there are diff small ways someone can shape Henry as a character with their ingame choices, but it never sat right with me that the records made for Wapiti Station describe Henry as easily being manipulated and Delilah as not.

Even if you made Henry to be slightly paranoid, most of his choices still make him out to be the one who wants to get to the bottom of the situation, and Delilah to be someone easily influenced or someone who would rather not get into a mess, even if it means finding answers. To me, that sounds like if someone wanted to manipulate Henry so that he would not try to find out their operation, it would not work, because Henry would just want to get to the bottom of things. To me, that is not being easily manipulated, even if Henry was a more passive person.

So to me it sounds like the game equates being witty, the way Delilah is, with being not easily manipulated, while my boy Henry is here doing all he can to find out who is spying on him and Delilah, while she is like ''Henry idk what to say, I think you are looking too hard into this''. That is someone easily manipulated, if you asked me

Discussion It has taken me 10 years of owning this game to finally sitting down and playing it.

I feel stupid I didn’t play it sooner, yes it’s a walking simulator, the visuals aren’t realistic but the style is absolutely outstanding as is how engaging the story of the game is and you almost go into a tunnel vision when playing it and real world time slips away.

I have to ask is there even any other games out there like this?

Discussion Guys we have to talk about the ending Spoiler

I just feel so sad. I finished the game 10 minutes ago, coping so hard that I would see Delilah. This is the only game ever where I stopped watching a YouTube video telling its story to play it myself, and after 5 little hours (more than most players I know) it's gone and the experience ended. The whole story is a masterpiece but this ending made me ragequit lol. Idk what I expect from this post, I just want to talk about it with other fans to make it last just a little bit longer. Thx !
