It appears the LDS church has finally taken steps to thwart the Temple Name Oracle.

They're still giving the same male-female pairs of names to everyone at every temple who gets their Initiatory on the same day, but the day of month is now changing each month so we can't predict the names in advance. As more information is discovered I'll add it to the site.

14 years ago I hammered out the first version of the Temple Name Oracle, and since then many people have predicted that the church would start randomizing the dates or try some other system to stop exmos from shattering the illusion for active temple-goers that their new name is special to them.

With enough data, though, we can still identify the names and dates after the fact. If anything, I'll need help from the public now more than ever. If you've recently gone through a temple endowment, please submit the new name you received here:

I am really struggling. Never was there a more devout member and defender of the church than I was. I will spare most of the details. But my son was sent home from his mission for confessing some indiscretions. What was included in those? A statutory rape where he was the victim. He was told to give very explicit details. They were typed up in a computer and sent to the church law office for review. The way it all played out was such a shit show. My son came home severely suicidal, and completely re traumatized. Our Stake president battled for us and made trips up to Salt Lake to speak on our behalf. Then what?? Complete silence. At one point we were told we were fortunate he was only sent home for 6 weeks and that it shows that the brethren’s hearts have really “softened.” Also that it was fortunate for him that he wasn’t “disfellowshipped.”
Of course he didn’t return to his mission. It has absolutely devastated this mom who has had to battle her own deep trauma. I feel duped, foolish, and that our family was expendable like trash to the church to maintain its “high standards.”
So I guess upper leadership is absolutely oblivious to trauma? Sexual assault? Coercion? I guess none of it counts if you are male? I am now very well aware there are others who have dealt with much worse. It just feels so wrong to now have members/and friends stand around and point the finger saying “well, he lied on his mission, he deserved to be sent home.” “Get over it.” When they have no clue about the details. Just want to know how often this type of thing happens.

We laughed about it and got married two years later. We stayed Mormon and active, rationalizing that local leaders like you might be problematic but apostles weren’t. Around the time we finally started pushing back against the LDS church and its doctrines, we heard a quote from Boyd Packer during Joseph Brough’s April 2017 conference talk:

“Bishops are inspired! Each of us has agency to accept or reject counsel from our leaders, but never disregard the counsel of your bishop, whether given over the pulpit or individually.”

From the top down, they convince boys that they have special powers, and those powers are used casually and callously.

Someone has to be the adult in the room. Someone has to make sure another generation doesn’t inherit this cycle of abuse disguised as faith.

If that means so many of us had to break our parents’ hearts in order to save our children from it all, so be it.

I’m sure there’s some more crazy stories out there—I’d love to hear them.

Someone please find me a single book or scripture or manual that adequately would have prepared me for the temple. I’m 42 and went through for the first time in 2002 right before my mission for context. I took my temple prep class and the first time through the temple was an absolute shit show. My wife had a similar experience a few years later when we were married. Effffff this gaslighting POS church.

I’m sorry, but the gaslighting from younger church members is more than just annoying at this point. It’s INSANE. Someone posted something here recently with screenshots of members saying modest clothing was never a rule, etc. What. the. actual. fuck.

Google “For The Strength of Youth pamphlet” and it’s easy to find the RULES from 2001, the year I turned 12. The dress and appearance section is very specific about what the RULES were. I also found a Church News article from January 2002 talking about how important the new FTSOY pamphlet was. Come on!!!

My boss snorted in disbelief and then put the resume in the reject pile. I explained to her that all this man’s life, people told him that employers would be impressed by his accomplishment. My own parents told me this. I was an Eagle Scout myself, but I never put it on my resume. Nor did I ever list my missionary service or any of my youth leadership roles. I was amused to see what happens in the real world when coddled boys put something on their resume that their mothers did for them in middle school.

Super unique tattooed Mormon guy here to tell us all about how he has ink and it's a total non-issue. The comments are full of other tattooed Mormon saying the same thing. Apparently the Mormon aversion to tattoos was just a cultural preference all along, but Mormon Jesus is actually super chill about tattoos!

I'm aware that countless people have already discussed this. I guess I just want to contribute, because I am losing my mind over it. As much as I want to say I'm happy for the women in the church who are now dressing more how they want to dress, it makes me furious.

And that's not because I feel like it's unfair to those who sat through conference talk after conference talk about how evil it was to show their shoulders in a prom dress, or those who always had to wear layers and capris on ridiculously humid 100-degree summer days, or modify their "immodest" clothing to meet church standards in order to avoid being silently judged (actually if I remember right, not-so-silently judged) by 99% of church members.

What really kills me is the ones who are really flaunting their new wardrobes and pretending like NONE of the above ever happened are the ones who claim to be the most TBM of them all.

All of these influencers who pretend every new development in the church is the most wonderful, inspired thing to ever happen in the history of the world. My sisters. My sister-in-law. My mother-in-law. All going out and buying their new summer outfits and wearing them like it's no big deal, now that God finally caved to social pressure (again). And what a blessing that He did! What a miracle!!!

It is infuriating, and I just might lose my mind over it. If these people were already nuanced, sure, whatever. Or if they had always been vocal about how dumb modesty is, whatever. But nope: these are the same people who would jump all over those who wore the exact same outfits 2 years ago. The ones who would judge so-and-so for wearing a sleeveless dress to prom, and judge so-and-so's mother for letting so-and-so wear a sleeveless dress to prom.

But hey, in their defense, it's not like it was ever a commandment to be modest. It was simply a different time. A different culture. Simply policy, not doctrine. And it's not like garments were ever about modesty in the first place. 🤗

Piggybacking off another post I saw in this sub, asking about Mormon architectural inspiration— I was wondering what interior design philosophies do Mormon temple interiors draw from?

I firmly believe that truth will stand against all criticism. To be intellectually Honest with myself I ask that you respectfully Give me your best arguments against the Church.

Just to be clear This isn't some troll post, I'm legitimately trying to challenge my views. I'm also not so concerned about "the church" itself as I am with Doctrine, the bible etc. That all being said have fun with a fresh Mormon boy mind.

EDIT 2: I'm Home, and this is well... a LOT... I feel like I'm drinking out of a firehose. The sheer number of claims to look into, and my lack of knowledge are much greater than I had anticipated. I don't think I'll be able to respond to everyone and I don't know about my beliefs as much anymore, for or against the church. The only thing I know now is that I believe in God but that's about it. It's going to take time for me to form my opinions again. I'm sorry if this is unsatisfactory to yall, but its true.

Edit 3: Final: I have looked into some of the websites listed... I feel sick... I have a wife and parents that are members. The 4th of July party is looming, and I know the one thing that is almost always talked about is religion... I have not thrown out the church yet, and I almost wish it were that easy because then I would at least HAVE a position to posit but... no, I'm left with a cold dark emptiness and no easy answers. But I can say this, thank you for mostly being accepting, and even if you have disagreed with the nature of this post, know that I do not hate, nor blame you for your suspicion. I will not be adding updates to the post but may respond to comments. Now if you don't mind I'm going to go sit in the bathroom for a while while I try to figure out what to do with my life/ figure out the truth.

Next weekend the LDS Church will hold their semi-annual general conference. How is it that faithful Mormons get excited about 2 days of grumpy, self-righteous old men lecturing, scolding and shaming them?
