Excel Saga VS Charlie Chaplin - The Great Dictator (1940)

Excel saga is one of my fav anime’s, to this day I always put it on for background noise when I’m drawing. I love her chaotic screaming and dumb jokes.

Just a bunch of Menchis.

She’s a pain in the… She can’t stand properly, her face looks weird, and I thought I’d break her antenna—it’s so fragile. She looks awful here, but fortunately she looks different from other angles, which I’ll show in the next photos.

She’s got the weirdest paint job in the entire set — not in a “bad quality control” way, but in a way that feels oddly deliberate, like someone picked the colors and shading while half-asleep.

Also… I completely forgot to upload one of Misaki’s photos last time, so here it is now. 😅
This one is still unassembled, straight out of the box.

Because of her simple outfit, she honestly feels like one of the best-painted figures in the whole set — the details stand out way more, and the finish just looks super clean.

But at the same time… she also looks the most feminine out of them all.
Yeah. If you know what I mean. 😅

You can really feel that this is not someone who’s going to let stupidity slide.
There’s this quiet confidence in her expression like she’s already judging you.

Next one from my YAMATO trade figure set: Elgala!

She is honestly a bit hard to position, but I really like her stand the most — it looks great and fits her character perfectly.
Also, it’s really nice to finally see her in full color.

It’s kind of a shame we never got to see her in the anime adaptation, but at the same time… that mystery is also part of her charm.

And I have to mention it — her Menchi has probably the happiest expression out of them all, which makes this figure even better.

Next one from my YAMATO trade figure set: Hyatt!

Even though Hyatt is usually very quiet and kind of emotionless in the anime and manga, her figure looks really lively and full of character.

What I like the most is the paintwork — especially the shading on her colors. It gives the figure much more depth and it looks way better than on Excel, where it gives different feeling.

The issue I had with Excel is basically gone here. Hyatt’s head and face look great, the proportions feel right, and the expression actually works.

Honestly, I was really surprised how good this figure looks for a trade figure. Especially because back in those days, figures like this were usually pretty low quality — simple paint, weak details, and overall cheap-looking compared to what we get today.

This one is definitely better than I expected. The sculpt and details are actually quite nice for its type and era.

That said… as you’ll see in the next posts, compared to the rest of the line this figure isn’t as good as it could have been.
My biggest issue is definitely her head — something about the shape and expression feels a bit off.

Still, it’s a solid piece and I’m happy to finally have it in my collection!
