Subreddit Update Subreddit Competition #1: Killing a Goon or a Boss with melee. Rewards come as Unheard Edition keys, sponsored by BattleState Games themselves, read more within!
Submissions over! We have them! We got 10 qualifying ones, and the 10th spot was a tough one with simultaneous submissions.
The 11th to 20th spot will get honorable mentions.
EDIT: omfg you guys are getting way faster submissions than I anticipated!
EDIT2: PLEASE LEAVE THE VIDEO LINKS WORKING. I will make a highlight reel or collection post later.
Welcome to the first, and maybe last competition I hold here in awhile.
I'd like to preface this with saying that I really really would like the spirit to remain good. I know it is a challenge, and I most certainly would not be capable of succeeding in it. However, I strongly believe we do have people capable of doing it.
Ten first videos win.
These keys will be provided by BSG, I'm in contact with them about this.
The rules are relatively simple:
- Valid in Escape from Tarkov PvE or PvP.
- The target must be a Boss or a Goon.
- The killing blow must be with a melee weapon.
- Any Tarkov melee weapon is allowed.
- The full video must be uploaded to a reputable video hosting platform (e.g. YouTube, Twitch VOD, Medal, Streamable).
- The video must include at least 30 seconds of uninterrupted footage before and 30 seconds after the melee kill. If you die, we don't have to stare at your death screen though.
- No cuts or edits during this period.
- Help from teammates/partners is allowed, but the final killing blow must be melee. If your teammates shoot, you must show melee kill log death screen.
-No Poison Green flare. The boss behaviour should look natural. This will be judged by us mods.
Reward: 10× Unheard Edition keys, one per video.
The video MUST be a top-level comment in this thread. Please state your username in the comment since your gamertag likely isn't your reddit acco, and have it hosted with your account. Please ensure it is a fresh video as well just in case some crazy lad did this a long time ago.
Once we have clearly established your attempt as valid, we shall contact you via the DM on the account that posted the attempt. When we do so, establish good care to make sure it is actually my nickname and not someone trying to scam you please. If you are in doubt, you can modmail us back, but by just clicking the sender's profile you should be able to correlate it to me.
Rules lawyer at your own peril. The rules above are pretty clear in what my intent is, and if you make some sort of game breaking gimmick or something that my rules don't cover, I probably won't view it as valid. There's no appeal authority here, it's just me. I'll give you a fair shot, I just want your shot to be fair as well!
If you do have a valid attempt, post the video into the subreddit as your own post too once we confirm you as winner for that karma.

General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] QoL: Make every BD group on IB have a gas mask
I find it quite annoying to have to bring one. Just make one in each BD grouping be guaranteed to wear one. Though, for lore sake, all of them should be wearing gas masks since they toss gas grenades.
I already see some neckbeards typing "That makes the game easier". Counterpoint: I run IB without bringing a green flare or big backpack, because they're available on the map - for player convenience.

PVE [Discussion] PvE in Tarkov is honestly amazing right now !!
I’ve been playing the PvE mode a lot lately and I’m genuinely surprised by how good it feels.
The AI (Scavs and PMCs) feels way smarter than I expected. Every raid is unpredictable — something different is always happening, and there’s almost always a moment where things go sideways and you have to react fast. It never feels repetitive.
Bosses are definitely rough, not gonna lie… but I think that’s more of a “me being new” problem than a game issue. It actually makes encounters feel intense and gives me something to improve on.
Honestly, I’m enjoying PvE WAY more than PvP. It just feels more immersive and less stressful without dealing with constant player pressure.
Really hope they keep expanding PvE because the potential here is huge.
Anyone else feeling the same about PvE lately?

I killed Wedge at the hangar door, and the rest of his goons began to swarm me. If I had a few more bullets, I would have walked out of that.
Oh well, achievement done. This was a fun event.

General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] Blackout event should be permanent with a chance of 20%
Title says what I suggest for the lab I am not sure if it has been suggested/discussed but keeping this event permanent with a chance sounds like a perfect idea for the lab.
It has been a great fun after you learn -took me ~10 games- how to fight them as it was a terrible initial experience as Icebreaker.

General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Feedback] In 2500+ hrs of playing this game, i have never found a 6L31 60 round 5.45 mag for Ice Cream Cones in ZB-14 on woods. Why bother mentioning it in the quest.
Just remove the suggestion in the quest.

General Discussion - PVE & PVP [New Player] Where can a total noob find someone to queue with and actually learn the game together?
Bought into Tarkov a couple weeks back knowing full well it would kick my teeth in, and it has, thoroughly. Nobody quite prepares you for how brutal it is completely solo as a fresh player. I'm not even talking about the fights yet, I'm talking about basic survival. Half my deaths are just me squinting at a map trying to work out where an extract even is, I keep getting shot while I’m fiddling with the map or my inventory. And the weird part is that I’m actually enjoying it, the ruthlessness of the game just makes it really exciting, no matter if I’m just dying most of the time.
Really I just want a consistent duo partner to learn the ropes with, someone to figure out routes and callouts alongside, I’m not looking to get carried. The trouble is the obvious solution feels closed off to me.
Whenever I look at the big LFG Discords they're intimidating and I feel out of my depth (most people are really experienced). They're filled with people who clearly expect you to already be a chad who knows every callout and the meta loot route on every map. That definitely doesn’t describe me. I also added Tarkov to my Gameram profile, maybe someone matches on there. It’s where I met my Dota 2 teammates so I know it can be really useful, but not sure if EFT is big on there, so far I had a few matches so far but they were all really experienced players.
Hence me asking here, where does a new player actually go to find their people. I've seen the official Sherpa program floated, and I'm eyeing smaller streamer Discords or somewhere like r/EFT_LFG as maybe friendlier places to look. Maybe there's a place where newer players hang out that I don’t know about. Which of those has actually worked for you?

PVP [New Player] I'm completely broke. Any advice?
I started playing Tarkov a few months ago, so I'm still pretty new, but I finally went completely broke.
Up until now, I've been surviving by running Scavs, but there's one big problem: my Fence karma is -6, so Scav runs aren't really an option anymore. I know it's completely my own fault.
Does anyone have any good ways to recover from this? What would you do if you were in my situation?
Any advice would be appreciated.

PVP What the **** happened to Wedge’s squad? [Discussion]
So, for the last XX runs of Icebreaker i’ve just been using green smokes to kill them all and it was kinda easy, but since today, i ALWAYS get 3 kills and the 4th last boss just refuses to move UNTIL the smokes are gone, then he might start moving but he will just walk into the door and give me absolutely shitty inhuman prefire no matter where i am or what i do, like literally 0,0000001ms reaction time, that is fucking IMPOSSIBLE to beat. I thought i figured it out, just bring more smokes and after the first ones disappear throw another pack, boom easy. Yeah, nope. He just rails me fucking down EVEN with all the fcking smokes, im already so fucking mad, what the hell is this AI supposed to be? How do you beat this? I’ve done it so many times and it worked perfectly, now the last guy just became a fucking terminator seeing through walls and smokes, he starts shooting me even before he is out the door, with or without smokes, and its not even Wedge himself, its just his guard. I would fucking put Nikita into jail for this if i could, for real. Do these guys actually THINK sometimes? Even the fact itself that you have to "cheese" them with smokes to at least have a chance is utterly stupid imo. Any tips before i lose my god damn mind?

PVP [New Player] Tips for better extraction chances?
So I‘ve played 12h so far, sitting at account level 7, and I‘ve only managed to exfil 16 times in my 31 raids with 9 kills and 16 KIAs.
Things I‘m struggling with so far are not mistaking Scavs for other PMCs and when a good time to actually run / make noise is. Can you safely sprint to POIs at the beginning of a raid? I feel that I kinda move too slow sometimes and get there late, which cost me a few runs already.

General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] 1.1.0 Quality of Life
https://x.com/i/status/2079952150227018095
Update 1.1.0.0 in #EscapefromTarkov will introduce a variety of QoL improvements across several game systems.
Notable changes will improve the availability of equipment in the early stages of progression. Many entry-level ammo types will become available much earlier. For example, 7.62x39 T-45M1 will be purchasable from Prapor right from the start of the game.
The character level requirements for earlier trader LLs will be reduced, and the total trade volume requirement will be removed entirely.
The early Hideout development is also being streamlined, with construction times for the initial modules getting reduced. Also, there will be less dependencies on other modules and “Found in Raid” items.
As we've previously mentioned, insurance will be unavailable in Kord Breach season, but it will become more convenient in PvP and PvE Zone. Insured items will be returned more quickly, though the cost will increase slightly. In addition, Jaeger will now offer his own insurance service. While significantly more expensive, it will return lost items in just a couple of hours.
These changes will make character progression smoother, allowing players to spend more time on active gameplay and pursuing long-term goals.

I was digging through some boxes recently and I just so happen to own the tarkov GPU in real life (or atleast the one I assume they used in the game). Definitely throwing this one up on display it's too cool not to
