Hi, first time poster here. I've gone through this subreddit and altered my resume to the standard format. I've applied to countless jobs but haven't gotten to the interview phase for any role.

A bit of background, I was studying abroad for the past 4 years and will be moving to the SF Bay Area. Because of being abroad I didn't get the chance to do many internships or work relevant to my career. Most entry level/fresh grad jobs that I've been applying to require 1-2 years of experience and internship roles require enrollment in some sort of degree.

Honestly, I'll take any role relevant to my field of study but I havent gotten any callbacks so I'm guessing my resume must be the problem. If it's not my resume, is it my projects? I'm working towards a certification in hopes that it would help. I'm just not sure what more I can do. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Hi everyone. I unfortunately have been told on the 21st of this month* I will be laid off in one month’s time due to a redundancy of my working position in my current company.

As such, I have been updating my resume for job hunting. All key personal details have been commented out with “<>” for this post.

The overall position documented here is surrounding Model Validation to review the performance, methodologies, and overall risk assessment of both internal and external models of said company.

Additionally, please note the MSc degree is simply my school’s fancy name of saying “Financial Mathematics” and “Financial Computation” into one bundle.

My goal for this resume is to get out of this Risk Management working segment and utilize the skills documented here in another quantitative role for other companies/entities. This could include Data Analyst/Scientist positions, Research Positions, and similar roles in the industry.

Please assist me in tailoring and pointing my resume wording towards such opportunities to allow myself the best possible chance to move on to later interview rounds!

I'm targeting Full-Stack Software Engineer and Software Engineer roles at companies building AI products or data platforms. I'm currently based the Netherlands, but I'll be applying worldwide and am open to relocating.

I have about two years of professional experience as a full-stack developer, primarily working with Python, Django, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and data ingestion pipelines. I also have a significant employment gap, which I'm trying to address professionally.

My main goal is to understand whether the resume tells a compelling story, whether my experience is presented in the right way, whether there are gaps in the content, and whether I'm emphasizing the skills and achievements that matter most for the roles I'm targeting.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on what should be added, removed, reworded, or highlighted to make the resume stronger from a hiring manager's perspective.

Hi I'm an EE student from Belgium and am looking for HFT engineering internships, below I've added my resume and I was wondering if I could get some advice. These where several questions I had:

• There are many additional projects I would want to add to it but wanted to keep it to a 1-page concise resume. I'm guessing I could add some personal projects to the cover letter I have worked on or have been working on or is that not recommended? The projects are an implementation of a ROPUF I did for a hackathon (didn't win the hackathon but still learned quite a bit); and also a project I'm working on for a prof right now (still in a quite early fase) to evaluate different arctan implementations for floats in hw.
• I added a varia section at the bottom of the projects because I really wanted to add some additional things I've achieved there, is that badly formatted or fine as is?
• I'm a bit lost with my skills section it's still a work in progress. I put it at the bottom because I thought the experience mattered more here? I was wondering if there was a way to make it come out more. I also have quite a bit of prior web / app dev in both front and back so I know quite some other techs and coding languages in which I'm comfortable, should I add them there or is that irrelevant? Also should I like add all the FPGAs I worked with? Even though I would only confidently say I can use vivado and am not that experienced with eg quartus. I could also add open source toolchains I used or not really?

Hi everyone! Following up after posting here a while ago and I’ve since updated my resume with more specific metrics and detail, and I’m restarting my job search after a caregiving-related gap.

Background: I graduated in Dec 2022 with a BS in Industrial & Systems Engineering (3.2 GPA). I didn’t land an engineering internship during undergrad, which made it hard to get interviews after graduating. I worked a nonprofit coordinator role to pay bills, then completed a short cleantech internship, then a manufacturing internship at a solar panel startup where I was promoted to Quality Technician. Note: for about two weeks, my roles overlapped and I was working full-time at the manufacturing internship while working part-time, very limited hours, at both the cleantech internship and the nonprofit role. This was a brief transition period, not an error in the dates. 

I stepped away in Aug 2025 for a dire family caregiving situation requiring relocation. That’s now stabilized and I’m re-entering the job search. I know this unemployed period will be impacting my job search, but here we are.

Targeting: Industrial engineering, systems, operations, quality, or general engineering roles (entry-level).

Location: Hoping to stay in-state (CA)

Employment status: Not currently employed; job searching full-time. I’ve applied to dozens of roles with versions of this resume and haven’t been getting the traction I need. Something isn’t landing and I’m trying to figure out what.

What I want feedback on:

∙ Does this read as engineering-relevant, or still too far removed?

∙ Are the bullet points results-oriented enough, or still too vague in places? Which ones can I improve, and how?

∙ Any weak or redundant sections?

∙ Worth pursuing the FE exam given my path, or a waste of time given my direction?

∙ Anything obvious I should fix before continuing to apply? What could be holding me back?

  • Really anything, I'm just looking for an introductory role to get into the industry. I know that isn't exactly helpful. I did my capstone in FPGA software design, but I've done multiple different coding languages.
• Where are you located and what locations are you applying to jobs in?
  • PNW in the U.S. and I'm mostly looking for jobs in this area + any remote jobs. I'm not really looking to relocate.
• Tell us about your background and current employment situation
  • Basically don't have any real engineering experience. Worked at a summer camp and now as a volunteer tutor online while I take more self taught courses to pass the time while I apply to jobs. I've been applying to non-engineering jobs as well but I don't really get responses from those either.
• What positions/roles/industries are you targeting?
  • Anything ECE related, I feel like the degree is pretty broad and like I said for an entry position I'm not picky.
• Tell us about your job-hunting situation and challenges you've encountered
  • I rarely get emails back, and I've gotten only 2 interviews, 1 of which continued to another interview, at which point they sent a letter declining me the job.
• Tell us why you're seeking help. (i.e., just fine-tuning, not getting called back for interviews, etc.)
  • Almost exactly those two points above. I don't get responses, and I'd like to know what I can improve about my resume. I'd also like to know if there are any best spots to apply or if any website is just not worth it? i.e. linkedin, indeed, handshake, etc.

I'm a software engineering graduate and am looking to transition into embedded firmware development. I was looking at a couple of other resume feedback posts on here. Some of the projects that people were listing honestly seemed much more complex and impressive than the ones I have, and it sounded like these people were still having difficulty landing even a junior firmware role. This made me feel pretty doubtful about my chances of breaking in.

Basically, I'm hoping to be given a bit of a reality check if needed:

- Do I even have a shot with this resume?

- Are my projects just way too trivial?

- Any changes I can make to increase my chances?

Professional civil engineer with 7 years consulting experience seeking municipal engineering/project delivery roles. Looking for feedback on whether my resume effectively communicates leadership, project coordination, and technical experience

I've been applying for SWE new grad roles for the past year and a half. I also applied for internship positions but I don't seem to land any interviews. I've also tried tailoring the resume to the job description but that also doesn't seem to work. I think my resume is the problem.

I just made some changes to my resume and wanted to get thoughts on it. What do you think about the resume overall, the bullet points, and the project selection? What should I change? How can I land more interviews?

If you were in a similar position, what would you do differently? For any hiring managers here, what do you actually look for in a new grad resume?

Perhaps it's a combination of my resume, and job search strategy but I've been 9+ months out of work now.

The first six I admit I was partially treating it as a sabbatical (did some traveling, pursued hobbies, and did some soul searching), while in the recent three months I've gone all in on getting back into the SWE field considering the current state of the world.

My job search strategy at the moment has been to cold apply to positions I find on job boards (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc). My network hasn't produced much opportunity. I do not live in a major US tech hub. I am open to relocation though at my own expense.

I do have one interview pipeline at the moment so my time is also currently spent on prepping for it. Before my current interview loop I did try to do some upskilling on utilizing AI tools for development (didn't get this opportunity while I had a job), and will go back to that depending on how this interview goes.

In the meanwhile any advice on my resume would be greatly appreciated as it stands at the moment. Also any advice on the job search too.

I had been applying to lots of jobs and not getting any callbacks, I made a post here [Previous Resume/Post]
and reached out to a couple of recruiters in my network and figured out what was wrong and improved the resume, got 4 callbacks and interviews, so I am here to tell you what changed!

Tips:

1. Double and Triple check your dates: This is definitely the biggest one and had the most impact, even though the rest of the tips here are still very important, I had a wrong date on my resume that made it seem like I had a 1 YEAR work gap which wasn't the case. But there's also a real lesson here. If this can teach others anything is don't be picky, get a job first if the process is been taking over 3-4 months and hasn't been working at all, even if you're a FAANG engineer it will be hard to get any traction if you have a big gap like that on your resume.

2. Make the bullets more clear and detailed and understandable, the top critique I got was that the "The bullets are so vague, they just make the vanity numbers seem unbelievable". I went into detail about what each project is and explained it in a way for someone without any context to understand it simply. I even omitted some of the metrics which seemed too unrealistic, even though they were true lool.

3. As you move up your career, move your resume to the next level, don't just simply add a new bullet point after leaving a company and go for applications, remove your old internships/projects that are no longer relevant now, expand on your work experience what you did and highlight your biggest projects and strong areas (If you worked on a scalable distributes system, mention that, etc...)

4. Use AI to review your resume! It is genuinely a great help and will provide lots of solid tips! Here is a solid prompt that you can use:
   "You are a recruiter at a big tech company (FAANG), you are reviewing this resume for a full stack midlevel engineer opening, critique this resume until it is perfect for the role."

5. Incorporate the skills into the job descriptions. Make sure you are giving detail in your bullet points for each job; what technologies, languages, etc you used and how you used them. Having something listed under "skills" but not having them under a job with a bullet point on how it was used is seen as a flag that someone isn't actually using it.

Hi all, thanks for reading. I've got 7+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer across aerospace OEMs and MRO providers in Singapore (engine overhaul, inspection, quality systems), plus a short stretch in semiconductor manufacturing during the COVID aerospace downturn. Right now I'm finishing an MSc in Aerospace Engineering in the UK, expected to graduate September 2026.

I'm targeting Quality Engineer and MRO roles, based in the UK, and applying mainly to jobs here. I'm open to relocating within the UK but not really looking for fully remote work. I have right to work here until January 2029, though I know some employers may still weigh future sponsorship when deciding who to interview.

I've sent out over 200 applications in the last few months, mostly through company career pages and LinkedIn, and barely gotten any interviews even though the experience feels relevant on paper. Since I'm also finishing my uni work at the same time, I've leaned on AI tools to help apply to some of the LinkedIn Easy Apply roles.

Would really appreciate feedback on my Summary and Experience bullets especially. I'm not sure if they read as real achievements or just come across as a list of duties, and whether the format itself is hurting me. Any honest feedback is welcome, thanks!

Open to any industry/location but would love to work in semiconductor/ai-hyperscaler companies (my current internship is in this field)+ defense or IOT industry.

Mainly seeking to fine-tune my resume - especially the first few experiences and whether it has an accurate balance of technical depth with metrics. Also wondering if the length for my experiences are optimal or if I should spend more time talking about my firmware-heavy roles.

After taking a look at the Wiki, I've improved my resume a lot, however, I wanted to see if there was anything I could change or remove to make my resume more accepted by recruiters. I tend to receive a lackluster response to my major of Materials Science and Engineering and an even poorer response to my concentration of Biomaterials. I'm looking at the fields of process engineering, packaging engineering, medical devices, and biotechnology, and would like to know how to make my resume more palatable to these industries.

I’m a Computer Engineering student graduating in May 2028, and I’m getting my resume ready before Summer 2027 internship applications start opening. I’m mainly targeting embedded software, firmware, and systems-related internships in the US. I’m open to relocating and I’m an F-1 student eligible for CPT, so I would not require employer sponsorship for the internship itself.

I haven’t had a traditional internship yet, so most of my recent experience comes from that part-time work and my embedded projects. My main concern is whether the resume now shows enough technical depth and whether I should keep the Unreal Engine development work since it is kind of irrelevant to embedded.

I would especially appreciate feedback on:

• Whether the experience and projects are ordered appropriately for embedded roles
• Whether the bullets provide enough context
• Whether any bullets are still too jargon-heavy
• Anything that should be removed, shortened, or explained more clearly

I’d rather figure out what is still weak now instead of being left blind sighted.

I'm a high school student going into first year at Waterloo Software Engineering. I'm looking for internships (and going to be looking for more very soon in my first co-op), and I'm not sure how to style my resume. I have some experiences, but I also have this experience of being a youth representative/speaker at the United Nations. It was meant to be a role for "youth" (as in, typically 18-35), but I was one of the few high schoolers that got selected (so majority of people with the same role at the conference were PhD students, professionals, third/fourth year undergrads, etc).

I basically flew to NYC under invitation by the UN ECOSOC president, went to UN headquarters, talked to a bunch of world leaders/attended nation permanent mission group discussions, and networked for a couple days. I also attended each of the sessions in the big UN rooms for the SDGs and was invited to speak at one of them.

I feel like this was a very valuable and unique leadership experience. The thing is, it's not really that related to software engineering, and can really only display soft skills like networking, leadership qualities, public speaking, presentation, etc. I want to put it on my resume just because it's my most valuable and prestigious experience (plus maybe I'll stand out a little), but at the same time, I'm not sure it would really be relevant. Maybe a separate section for "leadership experiences" (seen this on some resumes), and it goes there? I have the space.

I go to a small, not particularly prestigious private school (within the top 200 in the US) and am looking for advice to prepare for the summer 2027 internship hiring cycle. I was fortunate to get an upcoming Fall 2026 internship, this one a NASA OSTEM internship at Marshall Space Flight Center working on test instrumentation, however I haven't started yet so I haven't put it in my resume. I plan to add it before applying for summer 2027 positions, however I'd like to refine the rest of my resume first before slotting it in. I'd like any general advice you could give as well as advice on what to remove or cut down to fit the new internship while keeping as much good stuff as possible.

I plan to apply for embedded, hardware validation/ test engineering, ASIC design/verification, and product engineering internship roles. A lot of my experience is in systems/networking, which I would like to move away from in terms of my career trajectory (which I have fortunately started the process of with my coming internship being more embedded related).

Note: the Systems Administrator position was a full-time temporary job I held in highschool, not an internship. I don't know whether that's more or less impressive to a hiring manager.

I am a student on an accelerated BS/MS Electrical Engineering track, and I am looking for an extensive resume review as I prepare to apply for hardware and electrical engineering roles in the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor industries. I particularly would like embedded and/or analog design internships but open for everything I am a US citizen located in upstate NY, but I am targeting nationwide roles and am fully willing to relocate.
