THE CURE FOR LIVING available for preorder!

Walk blessed – or, as they say in Khîra, yâsh thûya,

It’s time. Five years after Dreams of the Dying, the next two books in the Twelfth World series are now available for preorder, at a special discount. The books are currently being printed, and will ship around the final week of March 2026.

Visit my website for more information, or head straight to the store. If you haven’t read the first novel yet, you can purchase it here  –  a new, premium reprint is in the works. Knowledge of Dreams isn’t strictly necessary, but recommended.

The Cure for Living is a single story told in two volumes. It concludes Jespar’s saga.

 ***

“I’ll tell you a story,” the Visionary said to the young woman. “When I’m done, I promise you I’ll undo these chains and let you go.” He met her gaze, his eyes as dark as the void between worlds. “You will stay."

In the oasis city of Qurrâb, wealth, power, and fame all bow to a single ideal: yâsh, the virtue of one's heart. There, a thirteen-year-old girl with a mind like no other resolves to become the brightest soul history has ever seen, inspiring others to follow her example. Her goal? To unite humanity and vanquish the Darkness, the destructive force within all of us that makes the world the wretched place that it is.

When veteran Jespar tre Moreste reaches the fabled City of Sages forty years later, his only concern is finding Loanne, the sister he once abandoned. Little does he know that his journey will soon lead him into the dark underbelly of the supposed paradise, where ruthless crime syndicates mingle with death cults and forbidden schools of philosophy. As old wounds resurface and reality fractures, Jespar realizes that even after the tumultuous events of Kilay, he still has demons of his own to conquer — and that often, the most charming masks hide the vilest of minds.

***

At over 1,200 pages, this is one of the most ambitious and complex stories I’ve ever written. Even though it took much longer to complete than I expected, every second of it was worth it. It’s a story about identity, obsession, and how quickly we can become the very thing we’re fighting. It’s also a tale of grief and letting go.

Like Dreams of the Dying, these books come in three editions: eBook, paperback, and premium hardcover.

This time, I chose not to use a print-on-demand provider and instead oversaw the printing process myself. That decision allowed for significantly higher quality across both physical editions, especially the hardcover. This is why quantities are limited for now - for this first edition, I simply couldn’t afford to print more. It’s an indie novel in every sense of the word.

Both hardcovers feature full-color sprayed edges, gold foil lettering on a matte-laminated dust jacket, and a colored bookmark. Part One of The Cure for Living also includes a full-color, 140-page appendix illustrated by Dominik Derow. See the store description for more details.

All editions also include a stunning watercolor map of the oasis city of Qûrrab by Francesca Baerald, cartographer for franchises such as Warhammer, Game of Thrones, and World of Warcraft.

I’m blessed and honored to have collaborated with several gifted artists on this novel—from my amazing friends Dominik Derow (illustration), Johanna Krünes (layout), and David Müller (linguistics), to my editor, my typesetter, to the various scientific advisers who helped make the world feel so much more textured. All are listed in the acknowledgments. 💜

The third book - and Jespar’s saga as a whole - is dedicated to my dear friend Katharina Lippenberger, a gifted author, poet, and beautiful mind who didn’t live to see it finished.

Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey. Exciting things lie ahead. I wouldn’t have made it here without you.

Sincerely,

Nico

Enderal Books The "Enderal" novels are now "The Twelfth World"

Walk blessed,

On my socials, I've been hinting at a major announcement on my socials for a while now. Here it is: an unexpected trademark claim forced me to fully detach my novel 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨, and all future installments, from 𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 - 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. For those who don't know, it's an acclaimed and beloved RPG that I worked on pro-bono from 2011 to 2019 and for which I wrote the entire story and programmed significant portions. It's extremely frustrating and disheartening, but the legal situation leaves me with no alternative.

What does this mean? In the coming weeks, the print editions of 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 will temporarily become unavailable as my publisher processes a revised edition. While the story remains the same, the 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘧𝘵𝘩 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 edition includes the new series title, several name changes, and some minor changes to the lore. I also took the chance to rid the novel of (hopefully) all remaining typos.

On the bright side, I used this opportunity to properly flesh out the linguistic setup and consistency of the Illumined World. Location and character names now make sense and aren't just made-up words slapped together to sound cool, as was the case with many of Enderal's location names. The revised appendix now includes an overhauled world-origin essay and extra illustrations for the two new gods. Frustrating as this may be, I'm confident that this 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘧𝘵𝘩 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 edition is a better and more polished version of the original. To a certain extent, it's also liberating. I want to stress that the current SureAI team has nothing to do with this. They're great guys and game designers and we're on friendly.

I'd replace all physical copies for free, but I simply can't afford it. However, I will send anyone a free copy of the new eBook in return for a receipt.Lastly, I have committed myself to a release date for both the audiobook and the second book. I'll make it public once I can be sure I'll be able to hold it.

PS: The current SureAI team (the Dreadful River devs) are in no way involved in this. They're amazing guys and we're on friendly terms. I am deliberately choosing to remain vague to avoid any additional conflict.

Should I play Enderal if my only experience with the Elder Scrolls series is a few hours of Skyrim? (the story didn't grab me so I dropped it)

but I heard that enderal has a much better narrative so I want to give it a try. Should I? Given my very limited experience with the series and basically zero knowledge of its lore.

Enderal How do I do the dark keeper build?

I am confused. I chose the race half-aeterna. Yet there are no other options like there are in other elder scrolls games to spec out your character. Instead you press y to go to the meditation where you pick out skills.

I have been googling this to no avail. What skills and whatnot will get me to the dark keeper build?

Mod Blacksmith Commissioning

I am by no means a mod creator but I remember using 'Honed Metal' on Skyrim basically you pay the blacksmith and give them the materials and they make the weapon or armour you want. If someone could make it for this game I am enjoying the RP and I am not a blacksmith I am an idiot with a mace and I like to hit things.

Is there anywhere other than Amazon to get the Twelfth World ebooks?

I'm interested in reading Dreams of the Dying and The Cure For Living, but the only listed place for the ebooks is Amazon. I don't have a kindle and Amazon's walled garden give me no alternative as they disallowed downloading of purchased ebooks awhile back. Are there any options outside of Amazon short of getting the physical books?

Start with enderal gameplay overhaul?

Hey, just wondering if I should play with the gameplay overhaul. I created a caster for my first few hours. Having fun but Skyrim combat is pretty linear, shoot guys in face with fire, run backwards... Nothing is really grabbing me combat wise. Should I try EGO as a mage? What changes for casters? AI just said it slows casting speed and adds stamina depletion. This doesn't really change what I'm doing already, just "harder"? Just wondering if I just accept skyrims dated combat or tack on EGO?

Edit: Just want to tack on that every other aspect of this TC is incredible. Story, Music, Exploration. I'm definitely having a blast.

Werewolf Archer

Is Archer / Lycanthropy a viable build? I read somewhere that bows grant the worst bonuses to claw damage. If I make my build centered around archery and then become a werewolf while holding a bow will I be nerfing myself in the late game? Does it remain viable?

Hero menu and controller

How do I rebind the button? Hero Menu isn't under "Enderal" mod configuration menu (using latest mod.pub install). I want to use the Diary mod but the problem is they don't have the hero menu in the character list and I can't rebind sleep to the stupid hero menu... -.-

Unplayable

Hi, so I installed the Enderal Special Edition from Steam, played through until the point in the intro where you meet Finn and Carbos, but the dialogue got stuck and froze there. After I couldn't fix that I figured I'd try to restart a new character and now it is completely unplayable. I start in the dream sequence and when I go into the cabin it just freezes while dad looks at me and I'm locked into place in front of the elk. Any way to fix this? I'd like to try out the game lol

Enderal Modding

The time has come for me, after so so long, to finally try and play this so called masterpiece of a conversion mod.

However, as it is based on the ages old skyrim engine, I would liek to mod it as well. My question is 2-fold:

  1. How do you mod Enderal? Is it just like Skyrim, with the nexus mod manager, or is there a difference? And as a matter of fact, do all skyrim mods work with enderal>

  2. Doe anyone have a modlist they play with that modernizes the game? I just dont feel like digging through the nexus for 2 weeks to find all the fine tuning necessary. Besides, ive never played it before, so modding while blind would be... unwise.

Afraid to replay Enderal and lose the first experience

I finished Enderal on June 25th, 2022. I still haven't replayed it.

I’ve been thinking about starting a new playthrough lately, but there’s something holding me back.

Enderal is one of those rare games where the first experience felt impossible to recreate.
I went in completely blind, got attached to the characters, the world, and eventually reached the ending with Calia on the island after everyone else was gone.

When the credits rolled, I just sat there for a while.
Not because it was perfect, but because it felt complete.

My worry is that replaying it might somehow change that memory.
Not that the game would be worse, but that I would no longer remember it the same way.
The surprise, the emotions, the feeling of discovering everything for the first time - those things only happen once.
At the same time, I know a second playthrough would probably reveal things I missed the first time.

For those who replayed Enderal: did it change how you felt about your first playthrough, or did it make you appreciate it even more?

Retrying again after a few years now I remember why I hated it so much

Few years ago, I played this game but just couldn't play it. Decided to give it another shot today, now I start to hate it again.

Who did the level design? I got killed by two wolves while wearing heavy armor. Who am I playing, is the guy made of paper? Are the wolves' teeth made of steel?

Who thought it is a great idea that you need to go to a specific location to ride some animal to fast travel?

Who thought it is a great idea that you need skill books to upgrade skills?

Why are the game designers purposely creating obstacles and thought players would love this?

And I need to go buy potions to decrease fever, like forever?

The story might be intriguing at first, but the rest of this garbage just adds up, I am so fucking angry and frustrated at this game.

Mod Will magic mods without a patch just fail to spawn the added spells? Or will they cause problems.

I've been thinking about this. I've got a lot of magic mods I want to play with.

But none of them have patches that i could see, and i'm not sure if the spells just won't appear, or if they'll cause crashes because they attempt to edit vanilla skyrim leveled lists, add themselves to vanilla vendors, or edit vanilla worldspaces to add their tomes.

And for that matter, what about magic mods that add their tomes via level list injection or skypatcher?

Here are the spell mods I'm looking at. Obviously I don't need them all. I'll take what I can get. Even if it's only 1 or 2.

>spell mods

>>obscure magic

>>storm calling magic 2

>>elemental mastery magic

>>wizarding traversal magic

>>abyssal wind magic (i just want this for the boss fight you can summon)

>>triumvirate

>>triumvirate balanced

>>necrotic

>>wildwalker (has skypatcher option)

>>immersive illusion spells

>>lost grimoire

Enderal Island of kor

I’ve literally never posted on Reddit before but I needed to just to say how amazing the island of kor quest line was

I mean from the unsettling lack of music in certain areas to these letters of the followers descent into madness

Even the small fact there was 0 music in the final area was so unsettling

Not even begging to talk about the crazy room design in the very last zone which was just amazing

Honestly my only negative is that there isn’t more of this branch of lore and more in depth quest lines about what the hell this kor is (if it even is what they believed kor is)

All around 10/10 mod with this 11/10 quest

(I hope I left this all vague enough to not need any spoilers)

Couldn't get path of prophet to work, quick question

I'm using mod.pub version of Enderal and using skyrim SE 1.6.x. When I tried installing the mod list I got a complaint from vortex that I can't use 1.6 but need 1.5.x. Is this a requirement for mods in general when using skyrim SE to use the 1.5 version?

Official I'm Nicolas, Writer & Co-Project Lead of Enderal - Forgotten Stories. I co-founded a studio, and we're working on a AA+ Dark Fantasy RPG (spiritual successor) and are looking for a full-time Level Designer. Modding background preferred.

By the Blessed Path what a nightmare. I thought I was in trouble when I saw two magical constructs near the front. That was pretty hard. But no that was only the beginning. Level 41 Spectral warrior on Expert. Burned through most of my hoard of potions including resist magics. Just had to put an extended cave with a miniboss after the fortress too eh??? But now I'm rocking around with a new Phantasm partner. Took an entire afternoon, many saves and some cheese, but got through it. Excellent dungeon would not repeat

Three years of playing almost nothing but RPGs and I've yet to find a game that feels as good as Enderal

I played Enderal on and off in 2023 and 2024, finishing it in the summer of 2024, having been blown away by just how fun it is. Since then I've played so many other RPGs from start to finish. Some examples include Drova: Forsaken Kin, Baldur's Gate 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Wizard101 (the first arc), Avowed, Pillars of Eternity, and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. I recently started a new playthrough of Enderal to take a break from Dark souls, and it all just came flooding back.

Everything in Enderal feels amazing. The atmosphere is undefeated, the characters are interesting, the quests are fun, the feeling of reward is immense, and even the combat, despite looking like Skyrim's shitty combat on the surface, is an absolute blast. What stands out to me the most about Enderal ishow efficiently designed it is. It doesn't waste its time with flashy mechanics that draw attention to themselves like so many gamers expect. It instead does a lot with a little. That's why I like this game so much.

So many gamers these days expect everything from a game. They want as much "stuff" as they can get. And, while Enderal may have a lot of "stuff", it clearly works within the limitations of Skyrim's engine and is better for it. Enderal doesn't need soulslike combat when the subtle redesign of Skyrim's combat works just fine. Enderal doesn't need a thousand new mechanics to actually be good. It's the opposite of dangling keys or bells and whistles.

I just wish more games decided to do more with less instead of bloating their game with a thousand attention-drawing mechanics that don't actually make the game fun.

On top of that, I really just disagree that the gameplay isn't good and that this is just a game you play for the story. Few games actually do hit the gameplay highs of Enderal for me.

Enderal first playthrough skill allocation

So I'm level 9, and I'm focusing on marksmen, psionics, one handed, light armor for combat in that order. Handicraft, enchanting, and alchemy for crafting in that order. Is this too spread out? Or is it okay? I don't want to be too under powered as an Archer build.
