General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers from S1 to 2nd film) Weekly Discussion Thread (for Simple Thoughts and Questions)

Are you on your 10th rewatch of Downton and just need to get something out of your system without having to make a whole post about it? Or maybe you're a new viewer with a simple question that you just need answered?

Then this is the place for you!

NOTE: The weekly thread does NOT replace your ability to ask simple questions or make comments as individual submissions. This is a SUPPLEMENT to what we have already been doing on this sub. If you have a burning question that you want to submit separately and/or want to make a whole post about your love/hate for XYZ, then go for it! We are always looking for respectful, civil discussion on this forum; the more, the better.

WARNING: As per the flair, this is a spoiler-friendly thread. Comments will be unmoderated for spoilers, and reports regarding spoilers will be ignored. (On that note, if someone is asking a question and clearly identifies themselves as a first-time viewer, then we hope you will be considerate enough to avoid referencing future events in your replies to them as a courtesy). If you are a new/first-time viewer with a question/comment and are afraid of encountering spoilers, please consider starting your own separate post and use the black editable "FIRST TIME WATCHER" flair. We can guarantee people would love to hear from you :)

Its really as beautiful as shown in the series. I love how they have images of the cast with certain dialogues at places where they were shot.

FIRST TIME WATCHER - Finished Watching All Seasons & Movies I would follow the Granthams & Crawleys to the ends of time...

Seriously. I just watched The Grande Finale yesterday. It closed everything I 'needed' closed from the series and previous movies. I wept at the end when Mary stood in the hall and saw everyone as they were in the past.

But, I am still bereft! I quite need the storytelling. The wit. The ups and the downs. The drama! I need that in my life.

I would follow them to the ends of time. I'm sure I'm not the first one to come here and say it, but if Fellows, et alia, decided to do a series of prequels, going back to at least the 18th century and honestly? I'd be delighted if they took it back as far as it could go. I would be there.

Just imagine! So many of our beloved characters could, if the actors so desired, reprise their roles as their own ancestors. Since they've been in the village for so long, we could learn backstories to all the staff of DA and even perhaps the village itself.

If I begged would there be a possibility of the show being reprised and taken back in time?

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Sir Hector was a right little s***. It took Daisy speaking up, and nudging Carson to be heard.

Quite the ripping yarn but the homophobic hysteria is over the top even for the ‘90s. Daniel Craig is lusty and blustering.

Season 3 Spoilers Can someone explain why Robert is so angry with Ethel for her bastard child when everyone was there when she brought him to the dining room?

I’m watching season 3 episode 6, just after Robert burst into Mrs Crawley’s house during the dinner Ethel cooked to offer sympathy after Sybil died. Why is Robert so angry, saying “who bore a bastard child” when everyone in the room was there when Ethel brought her child into his dining room to confront Mr and Mrs Bryant in season 2 episode 6? Surely he knows they all know.

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Cora and her mother sitting for a portrait.

I really love Cora and her family in general, so in my efforts to make more Downton Abbey fanart I started working on this. Sorry for posting fanart two days in a row! I've been obsessed with this show lately haha.

I feel like I accidentally made Cora look a bit more like Mary than herself, but I think it's fine.

Jim Carter voicing the robot butler Cogman is on brand, but hearing some of the lines with Carson’s face in mind is absolutely hilarious

I really love Mary with her hair down, and while I think I didn't quite do her justice in this-- I think it turned out well for my second official attempt at drawing her.
