Discussion Best view points.

Hey! I’m looking to find some of the nicest view points in Dorset. I live down in Dorchester, so ideally within 20 miles from here. Although, I’m open to any recommendations or suggestions in the Dorset region. Anyone know of anywhere with an incredible view, especially for sunset?

Discussion Anyone here see David Cassidy at Lighthouse Poole in 1985?

David Cassidy was my teenage hero, but I never managed to see him perform live.

I've just read about the new tribute to him at Lighthouse Poole and it made me wonder if anyone here was actually at that concert. I'd genuinely love to hear what it was like.

Question X53 Jurassic Coaster – connections shown in the PDF timetable and on Google Maps but not in First Bus's Journey Planner and other Websites?

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Dorset and wanted to check connections on the X53 (Jurassic Coaster, Weymouth–Bridport–Lyme Regis–Axminster) in advance (for 27 & 29 July 2026). I've noticed some odd behaviour:

  • The official PDF timetable on the First Bus website lists departure times for my travel date just fine.
  • The Journey Planner on the First Bus website doesn't show any connections for that same date (it only seems to show results a few days ahead).
  • Google Maps does show the connection for that date.

Does anyone know why this happens? Is it because First Bus only submits timetable data (TransXChange/BODS) for the currently running period, and the next period only gets uploaded shortly before it starts? Or has anyone had similar experiences with the X53 and knows how reliable it is to just go by the PDFs instead?

Would appreciate any insight or tips before I build my trip around this!

My wife and I are holidaying in beautiful Weymouth and today we lost a pair of sunglasses between Fish n' Fritz and Greenhill Gardens. A long distance to comb!

If anyone from the community finds a pair like in the picture attached we'd both be eternally grateful for their safe return.

Thanks for having us and our family in your beautiful seaside town 🏖️

Visited yesterday for the first time and the monument was open. Loved the nature reserve walks surrounding it and the views from the top were impressive - can’t believe how long I’ve lived here and not made it there before 💕🌿

Question Camping / Glamping Dorset - near water so we can paddle board

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are looking for recommendations for the best campsites in Dorset for a last-minute trip in August to celebrate my birthday.

We’re both 34, have no kids, and are looking for somewhere with beautiful scenery, close to the water for swimming and paddle boarding, with lovely walks, pubs and places to explore nearby.
We’ve been looking at Lulworth Cove, which looks amazing, but we’ve never been to Dorset before. We’d love to hear your favourite campsites or areas that would make a really special couple’s trip.

Thanks so much!

Student Project / Research Dorset residents needed for an academic survey on attitudes towards same-sex marriage (18+, 5–7 min)

Hello,

I am an undergraduate student at SWPS University conducting a BA research project on how adults currently living in England and Wales describe their views on same-sex marriage and any changes in those views over the past decade. I am sharing it here to include residents of Dorset in the study.

Eligibility:

• aged 18 or over

• currently living in England or Wales

The questionnaire takes approximately 5–7 minutes.

The survey does not ask for your name or email address and is configured not to retain your IP address or location data. Participation is voluntary and unpaid. Some questions concern personal or potentially sensitive views, and “Prefer not to answer” options are available.

Responses across the full range of opinions – supportive, neutral and opposed – are equally valuable. Please consider taking part regardless of your own view.

Thank you for considering taking part.

Help 20/M Dorset Visit - Potential Meet-ups ?

Hi there,

I’m travelling to Dorset for the first time on my own today (17/July) - (18/July).

I was wondering whether anyone would want to meet up at all and show me the ins and outs of Dorset?.

I will pay for activities if need be.

At the moment my plans are going to Durdle door and going cliff jumping in the Dorset Quarry.

Any takers ?

Suggestion Dorset wedding venue

Looking for a wedding venue in SW.

Went to an amazing wedding in Shropshire where the couple hired out a huge hall with some accommodation but were able to bring own alcohol, hire own caterers etc

Does anyone have any recommendations for anywhere like this? About 50 people. Many thanks!

Question Watching the World Cup

Hello community,
I’ll be on holiday in Lyme Regis next weekend and I’m looking for a good place to watch the World Cup. (For me the best part is I’m gonna watch an England game in England 😅) now the only thing I need is a nice pub or public viewing area in Lyme Regis.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you!

Discussion Good to see people returning to organisations they've worked for before?

Lighthouse Poole has appointed a former member of staff as its new Head of Development and Partnerships.

Do you think organisations benefit when experienced people return with new skills and fresh perspectives?

Local Anyone here volunteered at Lighthouse Poole?

I noticed Lighthouse is recruiting new volunteers for the autumn season.

Has anyone volunteered there before? I'd be interested to hear what it's was like and whether you'd recommend it.

Question Skating locations

Bit of a niche one, I live Christchurch way in Dorset and I'm wondering where are good spots to skate outdoors aside from skateparks? (Rollerskates and skateboard). Recently got back into the rolling hobbies and am newish to the area.

Recs please? I thought about promenades but have heard when sand gets under your wheels you are like Bambi on ice

Question To move or not to move to Dorset, and where?

Post image
51 Upvotes

hi everyone!

I don’t use Reddit much but I’m looking for some opinions from the people of Dorset.

My boyfriend (25) and I (23) are looking at buying a house soon, somewhere we can start to settle down and grow our family. We’re in Southampton at the moment, and I was initially looking at Christchurch.

This last weekend we visited Weymouth and I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m born and bred Maltese so I love being by the sea with a mix of England’s beautiful nature.

For some more context, I work remotely and my boyfriend just needs to be near enough to a motorway to travel to different worksites. His family are all based in Southampton also, so we wouldn’t want to be too far.

I was just looking for some advice - which towns are the best based on what I’m after, are there any downsides of Dorset I may not know of?

My priorities are safety, friendly communities and fun things to do :)

Suggestion 3 nights in Dorset – must sees & food recommendations?

Hey! 👋
My friends and I are arriving in Dorset soon and will be staying for 3 nights.
We’re based in Weymouth and have a car, so we’re happy to drive to other areas for day trips.
We’d love recommendations for:
Must see places and hidden gems
Beautiful beaches and coastal walks
Great cafés, pubs and restaurants
Anything that’s worth doing while we’re there!
Thanks in advance 😊
