Earlier this year, my 10 year old female was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. We only discovered it through a cough that started bothering her at night. Since then, she’s been on 3 different medications with a few visits to the cardiologist. Today, we got great news. The doctor was surprised about the improvement he saw. The arrhythmia she had was greatly reduced and she continues to be free of fluid around her heart, lungs and stomach. I asked about the time we may have left with her and he said we could be looking at a year rather than months. 🥰 we just have to keep going in regularly. She turns 11 in 2 weeks and we are grateful to have had all this time with her. The last year and a half with her has been all over the place (a neck surgery, a stomach flip, a cancerous tumor removal, a cyst under her eye was removed) but she’s still doing so well despite it all! I’m happy she is at the average lifespan for a dobie.
We also just got her a sibling (a 6 month terrier mix) and he gets her to play. It’s so cute to see at her age. We didn’t know if they’d get along this well and it was better than I could have imagined. Hopefully this will bring more quality to her life. Whatever we may have left.

This is my first dog ever in my 23 years of life.
He was gifted to me and I just can’t express how much i love him. He is 6 months! I never understood the love people have for their animals until now.
I just catch myself thinking of the day I lose him. It’s a weird sinking feeling. I got him a new companion. Her name is Athena. She is growing on the both of us. I see so many sad things on reddit regarding pets, their owners and pet siblings. I just can’t help but cry when i think about mine.
That’s it. That’s the post. I just love em!
Oh, this is Achilles BTW!

My rescue girl turned 13 today! We got her in summer of 2014. Told us they thought she was around 1. Did an embark age test recently. Projected her birthday to be today. The big 1-3. She’s a teenager! My little mamas! Her face maybe be getting more white these days. But boy is she still sassy as ever. Lover her so much!

hi all my sweet baby boy was diagnosed with cancer yesterday, this is an old photo he has a mass on his forehead and the doctor explained he has a lot smaller ones throughout his head. The vet gave us a time frame about a year without medication and maybe two with. Obviously we are gonna give the medication as we want him to be as comfortable and healthy as he possibly can. I love him so so much I can’t believe this is happening again, I just lost my other sweet baby last year in November to cancer too. The only thing that is somewhat giving me comfort is knowing that he will reach the typical lifespan for dobermans as he’s about 7 1/2 and if we’re lucky he will reach 9 years! If you guys could provide cute pictures of your dogs and maybe words of advice if you’ve gone through this it will help so much. I don’t have much family here and I’m lost and worried and overwhelmed thank you all for even just reading this if you did it feels good to get it off my chest.

Please give me pros and cons to neutering My boy (16months) has an appointment to get neutered next Monday. I’m pretty anxious about it, I have heard about the risks of cancers, and joint disorders.
The reason I’m doing this is because 1. He marks terribly, everywhere we go even if it’s inside. Even tho he is fully potty trained 2. Our neighbors dogs constantly come over to our yard and I doubt they are fixed 3. He plays pretty rough with my in-laws intact beagle, they love each other but with the risks of same sex aggression of 2 non fixed dogs, I worry one of them will snap (likely the beagle because my dobie is annoying as hell)
He hasn’t seemed to grow in the past few months at all, so I don’t feel like I’m stunting his growth. TIA!

Hey folks! I am an experienced service dog trainer and handler and I've decided on a doberman for my next SD. I had a doberman female as my childhood dog, and I'm aware of the health concerns. I'm going to work hard to find the right breeder and the right dog.
I'm a few years out from getting my next prospect puppy so I'm starting my search now.
********If you have a successful doberman service dog, can you please share the breeder they came from? DMs are ok.**********
Thanks in advance! I am in the US.

Hello I just adopted my Doberman and was wondering if insurance was worth/if so what do you? What do you pay?
r/DobermanPinscher • u/Social-Cues- • 1d ago
Hey! I just adopted and he’s literally had super bad diarrhea on the kibble the adoption center and I’ve tried the Target brand. I had him on rice and chicken and his poop was Normal and I’m just super confused

He's here! He's so sweet. Puppy breath is the best air to breathe 😭 He was a little car sick on the way home, but we had a very brief hello from beyond the gate with the adult dogs, some poo and pee, and then we are having a nice nap in our crate in the next room over. Name suggestions welcome! I think it was a user called smileyfruit(sorry if wrong) asked what the registered names were of mama and papa. Papa is Smack-Dab's Red Bull v Obsidian. Mama is Smack-dab n Dabney Giro D'italia.

Hi there, we have a 3-year-old male Doberman named Henrik. He makes a sound I don't recall any other dogs I've been around making. It's difficult to describe because it is quiet and very intermittent but mainly happens when he's excited for a walk or is or stimulated by play or prey. He goes nuts over squirrels and deer.
The sound is low in volume and tone and is very brief. It's like a grunt or snort sound and I'm unable to tell if it's on the inhale or exhale. But unlike a typical dog grunt it is vibratory in nature like a quick buzz or rattle in his vocal passage. I have not been able to record the sound but will try and update this if able. I'm not concerned from a health standpoint.
Dobermans are known for grunts and low growls when feeling content and as they drift off to sleep. Does this sound similar to anyone else's experience? Anyone's Doberman do this?

Our doberderp is obsessed with the garden hose. We have to buy the metal one (which has a lifetime warranty that we have already used once) because she bit through 2 rubber ones. Now she wants while we water plants as long as she gets some jumping water face time after.
