Look at this bastard Megathread: Bastard Suggestions Part 2

To make the bastard suggestions easier for Robert to peruse, please put them here.

Please try to include more than just a name. Give Robert something to focus his research on and why they are a unique or interesting bastard. If there are book titles or other resources you would suggest, please include those as well.

If someone else has already suggested the same bastard you wanted to suggest, you do not need to suggest them again. Repetitive answers will be politely removed. If someone was suggested in a previous thread, you do not need to suggest them again.

If you have posted suggestions as their own individual thread in the past, feel free to repost here if you would like Robert to read them. We will be directing future bastard suggestion posts here as well. Happy suggesting!

Weekly Discussion Thread - July 21, 2026 Spoiler

Criticism of Sophie will not be tolerated and may result in a permanent ban. Yes, forever.

Obviously you can criticize Robert. It's what brings us together.

https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/

Criticism of guests is against policy and will be removed at Robert's request. Also because they are guests and we should make them feel welcome, because we are at least 40% not assholes.

CZM hosts will be treated the same as Robert in terms of criticism, but critical comments will be removed if they break the don't be mean rule. Except Robert. Criticism of Robert can be mean if it is funny.

Host criticism outside of this discussion post will likely be removed. You all nuked that eel horse.

Guests and hosts are normal people who read these comments. Please consider how it would feel if the comment was about you.

Be nice to each other. You can argue all you want but you can't fight.

Fascists and Tankies and their defenders will be permanently banned, because obviously.

General discussion The kid who swatted hundreds of people

Post image
520 Upvotes

This is Alan Filion, only 18 years old at the time of his arrest for swatting hundreds of people. Swatting is when people online figure out people’s address and call 911 pretending to be from it saying they have a bomb or have just shot someone. The goal is to get armed police to kick down their door and arrest them. If this sounds like attempted murder, that’s exactly what it is, several people have died from swatting incidents.

Alan specifically started swatting people when he was 16 and turned it into a business of people messaging him their enemies address for him to have raided. The FBI connected over 375 fake calls to Alan and likely many more we don’t know about. This isn’t one of those evil kids that need to be locked away forever type cases, but I think we can all agree this is more than old enough to be prosecuted as an adult for this. Alan caused raids on mosques, a black college, peoples homes. It’s the exact behavior radical sites like Kiwi Farm create, a site dedicated to stalking Chris Chan and transgender people. Alan is serving 4 years in prison for the hoax calls he made.

Another takeaway from rhetoric swatting phenomena I don’t see many people realizing is the absolute failure of law enforcement. It shouldn’t be this easy to get armed men sent to someone’s house and evidence they do no reconnaissance on where they’re heading. When someone dies from swatting the media always points the blame solely on the hoax caller, but none of the gung hoe cops that shot an innocent man.

Comment on a video about toxic masculinity making men avoid medical care. Can you imagine what it must be like being a nurse working with former SEALs?

Discussion Re: Cordite in Warhammer and the Marcinko episodes

I don't think it's particularly weird that Warhammer 40K in particular mentions the scent of cordite a lot because Warhammer 40K is fundamentally extremely British and the British were the largest users of cordite and kept producing it until pretty late in the 20th century. The US did occasionally use it, but it was overwhelmingly a British and Commonwealth explosive and would not be something that would likely have been encountered in large amounts by Marcinko in Vietnam (maybe if he was hanging around with a lot of Australians) as the US, French, Chinese, and Soviets wouldn't have been major users.

It's also called that because it forms long sticks or "cords" rather than grains like other gunpowders.

Important public education work

Context: I didn't realize Robert was bi until I saw him thirsting over Lee Pace. I previously assumed all the discussion of the fuckability of Nazis and assorted bastards was just him giving a measured professional opinion.

Official Episode Seabee Appreciation Post

Thumbnail
veteransbreakfastclub.org
Upvotes

The Seabees were mentioned as the source of the Underwater Demolition Team members in WWII, and Robert's comment on their working-class attitude extends to basically all of them.

They were almost entirely tradesmen of all skill levels whose job was to build American bases, destroy obstacles on beach landings (hence UDT divers), and defend their bases if necessary. A Seabee Battalion landed on Iwo Jima (and many other islands) with the primary mission of clearing away barbed wire and booby traps.

Unlike today they could be instantly promoted depending on their skill level. A construction foreman could join and become a Senior NCO. Their average age was 37.

They're still around as a unit today though much smaller and less skilled, but still mostly a support function and strictly defensive. Like Andrew said, medics but for engineering.

Also during the Korean War they stole a train which happened to be loaded with beer, and still completed their mission. So they're believed to hold their liquor better than a SEAL.
