Belgians, what's the general attitude toward the monarchy? From the outside, it seems like most people don't really care much about the royal family.
Is that accurate? If so, why?

PS: I'm not trying to start a political debate, I'm just curious about how Belgians generally view the monarchy compared to people in the UK or Spain.

I’m 29 and my parents are in the middle of a very difficult divorce. Rationally, I keep telling myself I’m an adult and that I shouldn’t be this affected by it. But emotionally, I feel like I’m falling apart. They seperated almost one year ago but the official divorce will be in the upcoming months.

This isn’t a “normal” divorce. There have been police interventions, a lot of conflict, accusations, and I’m constantly feeling caught in the middle. I still live at home so it was all very close and intense, I feel responsible for both of them, especially my mom. Both are chronically ill and the health of my dead declined after the divorce.

I can’t seem to process it. One day I think I’m doing better, and the next I’m crying again or constantly thinking about everything that has happened. I also feel guilty because I think, “I’m almost 30, why is this affecting me so much?” I’m an only child and I have no further family or social network. I’m seeing a therapist since some months but I don’t seem to process it.

Has anyone else experienced their parents divorcing when they were already an adult?

• How long did it take before it felt less overwhelming?
• Did therapy help?
• How did you stop feeling responsible for your parents?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve been through something similar, because I sometimes feel like I should be “over it” simply because I’m an adult.

• We're moving from France, and we all speak French.
• My husband will work in Brussels 3 days a week.
• His employer will cover our rent for the first 3 months, so we have some time to choose the right place instead of rushing into a rental.

Our priorities are:

• A lively city with cafés, restaurants, parks and people out and about. We don't enjoy places that feel empty or "dead", and our son gets bored in very quiet towns.
• A good place to raise children, with decent public schools and family activities.
• We'd really like to live without needing a car. Being able to walk to shops, take public transport and cycle would be a huge plus.
• My husband doesn't mind commuting up to about 1 hour each way by public transport, three days a week.

We're not necessarily looking to live in Brussels itself if another city offers a better quality of life.

If you were in our position, where would you choose to live?

I'd especially love to hear from people who have lived in places like Namur, Liège, Waterloo, Nivelles, Braine-l'Alleud, Louvain-la-Neuve, or anywhere else you'd recommend.

I have worked for Company A for 2y3 as a project leader, I left this company due frustrations and better pay somewhere else.

I started by Company B through a friend and worked there (even though I didn't like the job) for 3 months as a service advisor in the automobile sector.

I left Company B after 3 months and took a break of 3 months (couldn't find anything, burnout),

Finally I returned for Company A to work as a technician for 1y3 months;

I'm still working in Company A, but i'm looking at something else in the field. How should I note the work experience on my CV?

1. Should I just note Company B and the break.
2. Should I remove Company B and break from CV and Linkedin.

I also have a real basic black and white CV without much creativity, is this still alright if looking is the technical world?

Vrouw en ik waren dit weekend in de Ygo, en er was een bepaald "schilderij" bij de afdeling wanddecoratie dat ons in eerste opzicht wel aantrok. Maar als je wat dichterbij gaat kijken... Uiteraard. Ik heb vorig jaar mijn bachelor afgerond. Ik had 69 studiepunten (heb al een vorige opleiding achter de rug). Ik had 65 sp ingezet en heb deze alle 65 teruggekregen.

Dit academiejaar was ik ingeschreven aan unief voor 62 sp. Helaas is er eind 2025 een gebeurtenis geweest in mijn persoonlijk leven, waardoor ik mij heb uitgeschreven van mijn masteropleiding. Aangezien ik mij na 1 december heb uitgeschreven ben ik alle studiepunten van 1e trimester en de jaarvakken kwijt. Dat zijn 39 studiepunten.

Volgens mijn burgerprofiel heb ik nog 7 studiepunten. Er staat wel academiejaar 2025-2026:

Worden deze 23 sp pas in september bij mijn overige sp geteld?

Indien ja, dan heb ik nog 30 sp over. Ik wil mij graag opnieuw inschrijven voor de master, maar aan een andere universiteit (wel dezelfde master). De trajectbegeleiding is op verlof tot 12/08, 13/08 heb ik een bezichtiging voor een studio die ik dan al moet tekenen (of niet). Ik heb schrik dat ik dan nog geen antwoord van de trajectbegeleiding heb of ik al dan niet mag starten. Daarom vraag ik het even hier:

Is het mogelijk om met 30 sp mijn master aan te vatten? (Volledig schooljaar, dus in principe 60 sp).
Ik heb mijn bachelor in 3 jaar gehaald.

Ik heb in januari 2026 al contact opgenomen met de trajectbegeleiding, toen spraken ze over bindende voorwaarden (wat voor mij begrijpelijk is en ook geen probleem, ik heb geen moeite met studeren het stoppen van mijn master had ook niets te maken met mijn studies) maar ik heb toen niet het volledige verhaal verteld (zoals dat ik - in het beste geval - nog maar 30 sp overheb)?

Zijn er hier soms mensen met ervaringen of kennis van zaken hierover?

For the second day in a row, I noticed my solar panels only generate 20 W around noon.
After some time, they pick up again, meaning everything on my end is working properly.
Could it be that fluvius somehow restricts my panels?

Just curious because work culture here very different from my home country. I hear that most full time office jobs (I guess office professional jobs? Not sure if trade skills or other type of jobs also has same requirement) requires a 6 week notice period when you quit.

1. Is that true? Or is the notice period sometimes shorter or longer?

2. Is this by law? Or just professional custom that everyone honors?

3. What happens if you quit but only stay 2 weeks instead of 6? Do you get fined? What are the consequences?

For years I've never even heard my old neighbors. Sadly they sold and a new family moved in a few months ago. With some young kids (ranging between 6 and 16 I think?

But this summer break has been terrible. Staying up late playing/music/loud talking or yelling, singing even. They have been up until 2 AM a few nights in a row now. And I can't blame the world cup as they don't seem to react to any goal scored lol.

Half the time when I ring their bell they don't answer. Other times I assume the dad opens the door and says yeah sure and shuts up the kids for a bit. But it always comes back until they tire themselves out I guess.

It's not loud on the street at night so I don't know if I can claim nachtlawaai with cops? To me children should not be up this late, but also not a crime. It's just old row houses with shitty insulation. So I can basically follow a conversation in my bedroom that shares their wall.

I'm not considering moving. I am by myself, I don't have the budget for a free standing house lol. I have slept a few nights on my couch (living room doesn't share a wall with them). Earbuds don't work well, can't really describe it. All the running around and yelling is in quite a low pitch that's not really being absorbed? Earbuds and a podcast is the best option, but it's also just driving me up the wall I have to do this just to get some shitty sleep.

Long story short, can I call the police if they're keeping me up at night? Or is this a "tough shit" situation? I got work in the mornings, it's killing me. The kids playing outside all day is nice, I really don't mind it. But a little common courtesy at night is too much it seems.

my partner got accepted for Erasmus at LUCA School of Arts in Genk. We want to move together to get a feeling what it's like to live outside of germany. We will be staying there for 6 months.

I found some direct international flights that are 200 euros cheaper if I fly from Schiphol, but I wonder if the extra time, cost and effort is worth it. Needless to say we have heard how chaotic things can get at Schiphol airport.

What bugs me about flying from Schiphol is that when I return home, I can't buy a train ticket in advance because I am not sure if my flight will be delayed and how long it will take for me to clear the customs. If I choose to buy the train ticket after arrival it's gonna be 50+ euros, and it offsets the money I saved from the flights.

Any thoughts? Has anyone flown from this airport recently?
