I compiled every single informed consent clinic in the country. No therapist letter needed.

10.6k Upvotes

EDIT: Hey everyone, I know that the commenting is off on this now since it's so old. PLEASE send me a PM if you have one to add. I'm always updating this map.

Are you thinking of starting HRT, but are worried about:

  • Finding a clinic
  • Having to do a year of therapy
  • Having to do "real life experience"
  • Getting gatekept
  • Spending money and not getting treatment

Well... that is why informed consent exists. With informed consent, you require no letters from therapists. You simply attest your gender identity, say that you understand the risks and benefits of hormone therapy, and they begin prescribing and monitoring your hormone levels.

So... For too long, this information has been scattered around Reddit, Susans place, twitter, various out of date guides from different regional organizations, so...

I laid my eyes on every single clinic website and doctor profile listed in this map. You should be able to call up any of them to confirm, and then start your HRT as soon as possible.

PLEASE let me know if any of these are out of date or if I am missing some.

Upcoming AMA With Dr. Toby Mayer on FFS - Early Questions Pool

Hi everyone! As the title indicates, Dr. Mayer and his team will be participating in an(other!) AMA about facial feminization surgery on this subreddit, approximately a week from now on July 27, 9AM - 11AM Pacific time (UTC -8:00).

Given the narrow timeframe, we're encouraging people to get their questions in here ahead of schedule, so as much as possible can be covered. Please leave them as top-level comments (that is, replies to this submission), not replies to others' comments.

Is there a way to treat gender dysphoria that's not transitioning?

I've been having really bad gender dysphoria especially in the past month but I'm pretty sure I've had it my entire life. I've always been very jealous of the women around me and despised the fact that I was born male. Last summer after a particularly bad period of gender dysphoria and depression I went on estrogen. Partially because I thought it would help and partially because I was hoping that I wouldn't like it and then I could go off it and never think about it again for the rest of my life. The problem is it kinda helped a lot and I feel way better now that I'm on it. I really don't want to be transgender. it just feels like it would make my life harder for no reason and make me even more depressed that I wasn't born a women. if I could just find a way to be okay with being a guy that sounds like a much better solution. Is there anyway to treat gender dysphoria that doesn't include transitioning??

These needles are scary, help a mom out?

Hey everybody! My child is beginning their transition and I am helping with the shots. While the first injection went down with minimal shrieking (our new mother/daughter relationship is starting off strong lol) I have zero confidence that I did it right.

The needles are long (I don't have them with me but can tell y'all exactly what length they are when I'm home) and she said something about the doctor telling her they weren't the "right" needles, necessarily. I think she was so excited to finally be starting she didn't ask many questions about what that meant, so we were definitely getting lost in the printout she was given and the YouTube video I found. Do these needles really go all the way in? She is very slender and getting a good pinch of fat was a struggle, one side of the paper said "skin tight, straight in" and the other side said "get a pinch of fat" and didn't specify how deep, the YouTube video I found was for sure using pen needles..... were these just different choices, different methods for different needle types? DO they go straight in?

I am sure I'm overthinking this, but my girl has herself a neurodivergent millenial mom and I don't want to hurt her or waste a single drop of her estrogen. Any advice for giving these shots would be truly appreciated. <3

Please help me understand why my gf supports a transphobe

My gf is trans, I am nonbinary. We both ride motorcycles, and my gf likes to do stunts on her motorcycle. There is an annual stunt ride every year that my gf goes to. It is the biggest stunt ride in the US, and spans multiple rides for a whole week. The guy who hosts/organizes this ride is transphobic/homophobic. He’s a big content creator, and owns a motorcycle shop.

She’s been going to these rides the last 2 years, and is about to go to this year’s. The first year we both went together. At this time it was not known that he was homophobic. The next year before the 2nd ride, he released a video where he said some pretty nasty transphobic/homophobic things. The video was quickly removed but my gf and I both saw the video, and lots of people talked about it at the time.

The part that I don’t understand is that she still supports him. She still went to the rides last year, and is still going this year too. She also buys his merch every year before the ride. Last year when she went to the ride, she left all of her girly clothing including bras at home and said she didn’t want anyone there knowing she was trans so she dressed in men’s clothing. I did go visit her for one night last year, but I refused to go on the rides. She put me in a really uncomfortable situation with other people there where I had to avoid any pronouns at all costs to not reveal that she was a woman.

This year she is doing the same thing. I am planning to go visit again for 2 nights, but same thing I will not go on any of his rides. The whole situation makes me extremely uncomfortable. I have brought it up over and over again how I don’t understand why she supports him and I don’t like it. She says she doesn’t like him anymore but continues to buy his stuff and go on his rides. Last year she even posted a picture with him, so pretty sure that she does in fact still like him. I am just really put off by it. She’s not changing her mind. I just can’t understand why.

Was there ever one definable point where you truly figured out your trans?

i’ve just recently turned 17 a few weeks ago and apparently as a birthday gift the neverleaving thoughts of not wanting to be a boy have gotten much worse again!!

it’s been on and more or less off for the past like 3 years at this point where in month long phases I get badly dysphoric and then just a week or two of being able to live life however the past week it’s been hust horrid.

i ended up reaching out to an old friend I had who’s openly trans about if she ever had one specific like point where she figured herself out and she did say that one day it basically just clicked for her, but also that I shouldn’t take her experience as the one universal template so one leads to the other and now I’m here to ask that exact question again

Is it okay not to tell someone you’re trans?

I have this friend and i felt really good talking to them and everything but then they mentioned periods, and so in an effort to sympathise with them i said ‘yeah i feel you’ and then they questioned me since i told them i was a guy.. then i had to explain it and i felt kinda bad afterwards because i felt like a biological guy without them knowing which made me feel more confident in who i was n everything. Would it be bad if i didn‘t tell the other person i would bond with that i was trans? Unless they asked of course.. it might be a stupid question but i dont really wanna be doing anything wrong, and im really clueless

Is this wrong of me as a cis person

So I did post half a month ago about trying to understand voice feminization practice, and wanting to do the right things for my transfem partner.

It really feels like everything went down for a bit, then up again, then back down. Like when it goes down, it plummets down hard.

I got useful advice before deleting the thread out of embarrassment, and just not wanting to accept some stuff personally. Well my partner did find a vocal coach, because we established that I am not the best person suited for this. My voice gets flagged as androgynous to male on every app, and I can’t find a way to describe everything without being told I am wrong, even though I’m having to repeat what I read from other trans folk about how this all works. I have never done anything voice practice related before this, and I don’t know if I’m fully right or wrong, but here we are again after her breaking down about her voice and trying to voice practice again.

I feel like putting this all on me isn’t the way to go about it. Of course I don’t want her to feel dysphoric about her voice, but I don’t think having me practice and make lessons everyday is the answer. I’m untrained, I have no idea what I’m doing no matter what I research, I have no idea on how to fully raise the larynx, or if I’m doing it right. I just feel stressed, and I can’t get her to understand no matter what I say why I’m not the right fit for this.

Unless there’s some kind of wisdom any of you could bestow upon me that will make me understand why I should be helping with this, and I’m the answer because all I feel is stressed, can’t sleep, etc. like is this wrong of me as a cis female to think I’m not fit to be teaching this? Any time I have she’s complained that it hurts, and then I get worried about hurting her.

Thinking about dating. What are some red flags for chasers?

TW: chasers

I'm 30 MtF and only recently started HRT. I've been single for a few years while working myself out. Now I've worked myself out and I'm emotionally ready for a relationship, but I'm nervous about chasers.

I've had a few chaser experiences. One was with a guy I met at a social event. We had a whole convo about chasers and how bad it is. Later that night he kept hitting on me by saying things like he "likes a boy in makeup". Huge red flag.

The other experiences were with cis women. Twice we got all the way to the bedroom before it became clear that they were excited because they still saw me as a guy, but like a spicy guy. I didn't see any red flag signs before we were already involved, which worries me...

So I absolutely get how gross it feels to be chased... :(

Does anyone have any advice on spotting red flags for chasers? Happy to read about others experiences but no need to share details if that's not comfortable for you

Thanks in advance :)

How did you choose your name?

Cis people don’t get to choose their names. And lots of parents pick out names for both genders when they are having a baby. You always hear people be like, “this is Joey, but if he was a girl we were going to call him Sarah” etc.

Would it make sense, in a supportive family, to take that other name? Or was picking your own name a really important part of coming out for you? How did you choose your name?

Confused about transgender and sexuality

I'm really confused about what this means. I had this girlfriend who later came out as transgender after we were together, and I'm confused if this makes me gay since they were a guy all along?

being forced on hormones that go against my gender identity, is there any way out or should i give up?

i (18ftm) was just prescribed estrogen and progesterone by a “natural” doctor my mom forced me to go to. i said no i don’t want to and then they both ganged up on me. he gave me this because of my (diagnosed) anxiety, depression, and ocd because my parents think ssris are the devil after i’ve been told by 3 people they’re the best option. my parents also think that taking “female” hormones will fix my gender dysphoria. i was trying to make it through college because i really wanted to go and get a degree but i don’t even know anymore.
if i leave i wouldn’t know where to go what to do. i don’t have any friends or family i could live with, i don’t have a car or drivers license and i live in a town without public transit, or any support centers for lgbtq and the only shelter is run by a church. i also don’t know if i have the strength left to be homeless. i don’t have a job right now either, i tried to get one all summer and no one even called me back for an interview. i do have about $10k in the bank but i’d need to open an account because my parents are in that account, and about 1,500 in cash. what should i do. i’m so scared i don’t want to be homeless but i don’t want to be even more dysphoric. idk what to do

edit: my parents found out i’m trans. they knew but they stopped believing me when i deny it. it’s over. thank you everyone for the advice but i won’t be making it out this time. drink a shirley temple in my honor or something i don’t know

How can I move out of Texas?

Ftm 23. So this is complicated and I am very worried. To start I already have plans for my life and they are in Texas this includes college. I just moved in with my mom to get back on my feet due to divorcing my husband. I have a ton of debt and disabled as well. I also just got my dream job. So my life is very rooted in where I live. I have lived in Texas my whole life and it's scary to leave what I know. Thats to say Texas is scary and I have the gut feeling and experts saying Texas is very very unsafe and I need to leave. How do I leave though? I don't even know where to start. I was thinking Canada, but idk if that's the best course of action. What is the safest place right now so I don't have to worry anymore? Then what could I do to get there? Are there organizations that can help trans people move out of the US? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

26yo “cis” male caught in a gender identity crisis - help!

Upvotes

Hi all! This will be long so thank you in advance for being patient with me. Before I begin, I’d like to provide some relevant background for context.

Around age 9-10, I experimented with putting globe halves on my chest as breasts out of curiosity. In my early teens, I tried crossdressing when home alone, got caught once, and successfully buried the activity for a few years. In my mid teens, I discovered trans/shemale porn; it was new and interesting but not in the way that I wanna be like that performer. Later, I’d occasionally and anonymously crossdress, pretending to be a girl on omegle. At age 18, I became bicurious, but I’d always been with women, and dating one seriously for a few years at this point. At age 19, I gave head to a grindr guy; it only felt meh/okayish but left me wanting to try again (very horny that night; lonely from recent breakup). At age 20, I properly discovered sissy and feminization porn which became my main kinks that I always end up coming back to. At age 22, I went to third base with an FTM transman from reddit, but felt disgust and regret after the fact probably because I was not super attracted to them. I’d continue with the rare crossdressing mostly when aroused, fantasize about being with men and becoming a woman. At age 23, I opened up about these kinks to a partner for the first time. Because she was into it, we’d fantasize about my fem/bi side together. It was a pretty short but fun relationship. At age 26, I’m currently wondering if I’m trans.

I very recently came across the magic button test (full responses below). If I could press a button to become physically female with zero social impacts, I would do it. A female presentation just seems more interesting and fun. I would not press a button to turn back into a guy if everyone would’ve always known me as a woman. However, I’m a masculine guy in every way from my body language, voice, mannerisms, thoughts (except when it comes to the kinks and I guess my gender identity now?), and of course physical appearance. Nothing about my presentation is feminine, and enforcing certain things (especially in a non-aroused state) can sometimes feel unnatural and akin to a stereotypical gay person, which I don't resonate with. I feel unfulfilled in many aspects of my life including my professional, romantic, and social life.

Is this just an arousal-dependent kink and a "grass is greener" escapism coping mechanism, or am I actually on the spectrum? I’m honestly super confused and I would definitely appreciate help! I know seeing a therapist to understand myself is the better way, but I want to hear from the community members who might’ve had similar experiences. All responses are greatly appreciated!!

~
Here are my responses to the magic button test questions.

  1. One day, you are given a button to press. With that button comes a set of rules and instructions. You can press this button only one single time. If you press it, you will become physically female. All of your family and friends will have always remembered you this way and you will have no social impacts to your life for making this decision. Once you press the button, it will disappear forever. Do you press the button?
Ans. I would. At the very least, there are more upsides than downsides in doing this.

  2. A second button is presented alongside the first button. Instead of changing your physical form, it would change your mind so that you no longer wish to be female. You will forget about the button and it will disappear forever. Do you press the button?
Ans. The reason for not pressing the button would be that I probably don’t want to forget this part of me. The reason for pressing the second button would be to remove my doubts/concerns/potential challenges and keep things simple. I’m torn on this one so i’ll go 51/49 to not pressing and pressing respectively.

  3. You are stranded on a desert island. This island has everything you need on it to live in relative comfort - a home, entertainment, food. Several suitcases wash ashore with all kinds of different clothes, makeup, etc. How do you present yourself knowing nobody will ever be around to see you ever again?
Ans. A female presentation would be more interesting and fun. Boy mode is all I’ve known and it’s boring.

    1. A lifetime supply of hormones washes on shore with full instructions on how to use them. You can be certain that you can safely administer them in the same way that you would be able to if you were under medical supervision. Do you take the hormones?
Ans. Since the first part of this question said, “nobody will ever be around to see you ever again,” i would take the hormones. I know it sounds shallow (and I’m not trying to disregard their challenges) but the female way just seems more fun for me.
  4. Suppose I told you this test was perfect at telling you who was trans and who was not, and it said to me that you are 100% transgender. How would that make you feel?
Ans. That would overwhelm me and change my reality, as I’ve always known, in substantial ways. One, my doubts as to whether my kinks/interests are solely arousal-dependent or not would go away. Things would probably make more sense. I’d feel a little more mentally rested and not confused like I am with this stuff usually. I’d also feel anxious about my future and which direction I should take it into because the process of transition is still not a magic button should I decide to do it. Not being able to transition knowing i’m trans might leave me unfulfilled.

  5. What if I told you the test said you are NOT transgender, how would that make you feel?
Ans. Idk. I’d understand that my fem interests are just kinks and should remain in the bedroom if at all. I would try to think less and less about this. But I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to suppress it considering how strong it evidently is. I won’t be disappointed per se at being told that I’m not trans because the idea that I could be is literally a day old so I haven’t emotionally invested myself into it as such to feel that disappointment.

Anyone have good suggestions/ideas for a trans pride tattoo?

Much lighter hearted question than we usually get here, but thought it would be a good place to ask regardless!

I've been out for well over a year now, and as part of my transition I've decided I want a LOT more ink. One of the biggest things I want to get is some sort of trans pride tattoo, probably in an area that is easier to cover if I ever need to be stealth for safety reasons. I'd like something at least a bit artsy, so not just a pride flag or symbol alone (though I think the latter is my backup). Bonus points if it works in just black ink, since most of my other tattoo ideas are in that theme and I'd kinda like to keep it going.

am i in a t4t relationship now?

I was in a mlm relationship with a cis guy, i’m ftm, but they’ve just recently started exploring their gender more. He decided that they want to go by he/they, and that the label demiboy seems to fit him better, but they will still just say that they’re a guy since that’s too hard to explain to people. I said it’s perfectly fine and i’m definitely going to support them and help him try whatever pronouns or labels or transition that they want to. I love him regardless! Even if they ended up being transfem, even though i have a large preference for males, im not opposed to dating females, and it’d still be them, my partner no matter what they identify as or choose to be! But i was just wondering if this now counts as a t4t relationship, since demiboy technically falls under the nonbinary umbrella. But he still feels mainly male, which is what they were assigned at birth as. So im not sure if it’s considered t4t by some people. because he feels like he’s still mainly a boy, but partly not, that other part is more nonbinary. They’re exploring their femininity more & i’m proud of him. They’re still perfectly fine being called my boyfriend though. They’re also fine with being labeled nonbinary since demiboy falls under that category.
Do you consider this a T4T relationship now?

Have you started to find yourself attractive and sexy after fully transitioning?

Upvotes

Hello, everyone

After some years of questioning my gender expression and identity, I've (23M, Bisexual) finally realized that I may be a woman. (More specifically genderfluid, but primarily a woman)

I've had envy towards girl-on-girl romance and girl-on-girl friendships for as long as I can remember

And there were so many women characters and celebrities who I couldn't tell if I wanted to date them or become them

All this time, now I know why

But now that I have embraced my true gender, I can't wait to one day live in my own place so I can make the full transition on my own terms

I've always found myself attractive and hot for many years. Yet I felt like something was missing to convey the closure that I needed

Now I realize that it's my gender identity and expression. Specifically being transfem

But what about you? Have you started to feel sexy and attractive since transitioning?

Denying my transgender identity helped me figure it out

Long post about self realization and hopefully helpful to any of my struggling trans family here.

It’s official. I can’t fight it anymore. I’ve been mostly on hrt for three years stopping and starting. I’m a 45 year old MTF and I’ve been fighting it for my entire transition. I used to think “I convinced myself I’m trans” and “I’m probably just trying to escape from emotional pain”. Stopping and starting hrt. Every time
I stop after a day or two the feelings come back stronger. ”I can’t live in a male body” and when I see men my age I think “I’m not that! How can they stand to be so masculine”. Having this back and forth in my head slowly but surely started answering my deepest questions and confirmed my transness for me. While I have so many internalized phobias about my transition it comes down to fear of social rejection. I still boymode at work and public but something new has woken up in me. The exhaustion of fighting to make being the true woman I am sit out this lifetime so I can make society like me. This life’s challenge for me is to come out. This is monumental. I’m posting here because this Reddit has been a light in the dark for me. Reading through all the posts and comments looking for answers and relating to every single mtf post. What I’ve read in here is all true. Being trans is actually real. No you can’t stop it. Fighting it only makes her more desperate to live, and while society doesn’t support us we have each other. We aren’t truly alone. I guess my point is. To anyone reading this that’s questioning themselves the way I have I want you to know, I have fought long and hard to make it go away and be what society expects of me and what I found is that the pain of keeping her (your true self) from living is far greater than what any transphobe can inflict. Once you meet your “pain threshold” the societal mask will crack and she will finally see the light come pouring in. Don’t fight it. It’s not you it’s them (society). You are fine and deserve to live just and person and organism on this planet. Please stop questioning yourself. You are beautiful and your trans family needs you to see that. Everything is going to be ok and try to find happiness where you can. Life behind a mask is much more difficult, trust me on this.

Would it be ethical for me to compete in women's sports?

A bit of background first, I will be vague with a few details in case of the unlikely event that someone would otherwise be able to piece together who I am from the details.

I'm a former division 1 athlete that competed on the men's side in track and field and was pretty average in my competitions, usually top 10 in my events. I'm over 6 ft tall, intersex have klinefelter's syndrome (xxy) and started hrt over a decade ago. I had srs about 5 years ago and my t levels have basically been non-existent since I started hrt. Despite my size, I'm stealth and only family + a couple of friends know about me.

So I've loved sports/competing my whole life but gave it up when I transitioned due to society's views on trans women competing. As of this year, I got into flag football mostly to get in shape due to not exercising since my college days and gaining a bunch of weight as a result. I play recreationally in coed leagues which has been great. I'm nowhere near where I used to be in terms of athleticism due to the body changes (hrt+muscle loss+weight gain) but I'm still one of the best in my league (men or women). So, because of how I've been doing, a couple teams reached out to me to be on their team for upcoming women's only tournaments which do have cash prizes. I really want to but part of me thinks it's unfair. The only justification I have for doing it is if I wasn't transitioning, I'd probably be near the top of the guy's side anyways, so what's the difference. But again I don't know if I can prove to myself that it's okay. Then if I don't do it, it's hard to explain to my new friends/colleagues why I wouldn't.

I know this is a sensitive topic and I appreciate all views on this, thanks in advance if you respond!

Is body odor normal ?

Hi everyone so, this might be a bit long so I have to give a bit of context; I'm 23 ftm and I've been on testosterone for roughly 3 months. I didn't really want to at first but I suffer from endometriosis and adenomyosis, and most doctors refused to give me any sort of treatment, medication etc because well, I'm transgender so " I can just go on testosterone and I won't have my periods anymore" ...
I ended up doing it because without medical care, I ended up having irreversible damage all over my bladder, muscles, veins (varicosis) and nerves and just can't bear the pain and dread from having my periods anymore.
When I got on testosterone I knew I'll get sides effects I don't really care for/am not fond of, but what really threw me off is that I started noticing body odor from pretty much everywhere but it went away quickly. Now I'm starting to get a strong unusual smell from my discharge, which is something I never read about anywhere, like a foul smell really + dryness and discomfort in that area too. I ran tests of course, because I thought I might've had an infection or vaginosis but everything came back normal so I don't really get it. It's been 2 weeks and sometimes it doesn't smell but sometimes it does and I'm getting really self conscious and ashamed of it.
Is that a thing you get while on testosterone, does it go away after a while or should I be worried and run tests again ?
Please please please enlighten me !!!
(PS : i posted this on another subreddit but I'm not a spam !!! I just really want answers and I'm a bit panicked lol)

How the hell did y'all do it?

God I wish I was a pretty, feminine girl. I don't mind being tall and physically stronger than most, but God do I not like who I see in the mirror - I wish I was a mother to my daughters.

I get so jealous watching my eldest grow into such a beautiful woman, and I can't help but feel envious of my wife.

how did y'all handle transitioning? The idea of losing a significant portion of my social and professional networks terrify me. my in-laws are very much my found family, and the thought of losing them (and possibly my wife) paralyzes me.

I just don't know how y'all had the courage... I feel like my life would end if I started transitioning...

how do you deal with the majority of people not wanting you to transition?

For example, about half the population knows about makeup, but if you're a trans woman, it's impossible to find someone who wants to talk about it (I have tried for about four years). And for the other "about half" of the population, cis men, around half are conservatives. So that's like at least 74% of people who don't want you to transition. A YouGov poll says at only 38% of people think changing one's gender is morally acceptable.

But I hear occasionally from trans people who say that they have found acceptance from cis people. If that describes you, how did you find cis people who don't see you as your assigned gender at birth? I think I would be a lot happier if I knew there were people who wouldn't misgender me all the time.

EDIT: nobody seems to have noticed this in the above paragraph so I am going to write it bigger:

how did you find cis people who don't see you as your assigned gender at birth?
