Feature class turned itself “read only”

Layer has been working for weeks and has always been editable but I opened the project today and it’s saying it’s read only now. Any ideas how to fix this and how to prevent it in the future?

How to make maps from arcGIS online “prettier”?

Does anyone have any tips on making visualizations/maps made on arcGIS online more visually appealing? I need to make some maps for an upcoming presentation, but don’t have access to pro, which I usually use. I generally don’t like to use online for static maps because I don’t like how they end up looking. So, I’m wondering what you all do to combat this? Is exporting to edit on adobe illustrator after the spatial analysis is done a good idea? Any advice appreciated.

ArcGIS Business Analyst Smart Map Search freezes at “Creating the layer…100%” when saving

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a college GIS project using ArcGIS Business Analyst Web, and I’m completely stuck.
After creating a Smart Map Search with a few variables, everything works fine until I click “Save layer.” It gets to “Creating the layer…100%” and just sits there forever. I’ve left it for over 30 minutes multiple times, and it never finishes.

So far I’ve tried:

Starting a brand-new project from scratch.
Recreating the Smart Map Search several times.
Using two completely different computers (an ASUS laptop and my gaming PC with an RTX 5080 and Ryzen 7 7800X3D).

Refreshing the page and reopening the project.
Using Microsoft Edge.
Sometimes after reopening the project, the layer shows up, but it either doesn’t contain the saved results or doesn’t work correctly.

I’m signed into ArcGIS through my university’s organization, so I’m not sure if this is an issue with my account, the organization, or Business Analyst itself.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a workaround, or is this a known bug? I’d really appreciate any suggestions because I’m running out of ideas.

Thanks!

Tell If I'm Doing This Wrong.

I have a map project I've been working on over the last few months, and it a mess of KMZ files, tables, shape files a couple gdb's, etc. In different locations (you get the point).

I wanted to bring together all the files into one local folder (as I just determined I've been working with files being stored on One Drive).

So I packaged up the map (took about 6 hours), and I have saved the package file in a local directory on my laptop (its only me working on this project map).

I used the geoprocessing tool "extract package" so that I could ensure everything ends up in the same location.

I go into the catalog, under Databases, and the main gdb file path is still showing a One Drive location? 🤔🤔

Thoughts?

How to generate coordinates for csv file with no lat or long?

Hello, I am new to GIS. I am in a class learning statistics with GIS. I have a csv file with my FIP codes and county names and my variables but I do not have the X or Y , Lat or Long in my csv. How can I generate the coordinates and how can i create my csv into polygons. I know there is a "display to XY" but I need polygons of the counties and not points. Is this even possible? I am using data from the census bureau website and I am using ArcPro 3.6. I am not even sure if this is the right subreddit as well so if there is one, please point it to me so I can post it. Thank you.

Arcade function help

Hi--I'm trying to get my Auto date and Auto time arcade functions on Field Maps form to not update when edits are made later to a different part of the form. Date and Time are separate (it just works better that way for this data). Is there a one-time entry or something to make it stay with the original input?

ToLocal(Timestamp())

($feature.Date_, Now())

arcGIS online dashboard not working!?

I am working on a dashboard. General info, I have a excel sheet of "observations" of beetles. It has genus, species, country of observation, and some other stuff. I have a dashboard with a map of countries and this excel sheet, which I calculated percent of genera within each county (i.e. within the US, 25% of genera is genus a, 15% is genus b, etc.)

Here's the problem, when I add the genus percent feature layer onto my dashboard as an element and configre it/the map so it should work as you click a country, a serial chart with the percentages for that country pops up. However, my serial chart isn't changing as I click different countries, it just stays as the overall percentages.

other notes:

- I had to add the table using statistic average, which maybe could be the problem? I'm not sure what else to put it as.

- The country names all match up

PLEASE if anyone has an ideas I will try them!

Grading tools in Arc?

Generally curious what people think about having grading tools in Arcgis?

I know civil3D is likely the leading program for surface design, and the workflow in that, while it gives a good amount of flexibility and customizability. It never really seemed intuitive and definitely feels time consuming.

I feel like the general workflow for making a simple pad could be streamlined, and the focus on streamlining field data to office work gives arc the advantage when it comes to going between the two with field maps and other field app focused apps that can interface directly with arc pro through hosted feature services.

Other elements of surface design like road corridors, etc I feel are even more cumbersome and could be streamlined for simple designs.

So anyways, what do you guys think? Would a toolset like this be functionally useful or to niche considering Autocad's dominance in this area?

2sfca in arcgis

Hello everyone!

I’m very new to his and python without much experience to draw on but have been spending a lot of time with arc recently trying to get a good model for spatial access going in arc. I’ve found some tools and rescources online that have been helpful but am struggling using them. Specifically a downloadable enhanced 2sfca from esri’s website. No matter what I do the area of interest always lights up as just one color rather than areas of accessibility. Any help would be appreciated!!

Print only visible portion of kml

I’m trying to create maps of circuits and the engineers gave me a kml file with all the circuits. How do I set it up to print only the circuit that is visible in the map and not the whole kml. Example I’m trying to print an area that has yellow and purple circuits, I set up the layout so only the yellow is visible everything else is turned off but when I print the purple is visible and not just yellow

What on Earth Do I Do

With Google Earth Pro being deprecated next summer, our build team's ruler-tool workflow is at serious risk. We rely on Zack's Outlining Tool to OCR heading and distance data straight off Google Earth Pro's ruler window, feeding those points into our in-game commands for outlines, height maps, and textures.

Google Earth Web can't replace this workflow for two reasons: first, its ruler data is rendered as uncopyable canvas pixels with no accessible DOM text, so OCR or code inspection is impossible. Second, its ruler tool only registers points on the 2D ground plane, so dropping a point on a 3D object like a rooftop AC unit is unreliable unless you're looking straight down.

This threatens eight years of established workflow with no clear replacement in sight.

Fire Service Ideas for Spatial Analysis Project

I have to complete a spatial analysis project for a GIS class using ArcGIS. I want to base it on some aspect of the fire service and was wondering if anyone with experience had any good ideas. The specific spatial analysis tools to be used are interpolation, overlay, proximity, and suitability (must use at least two). Data should be readily available though I expect prep/cleaning to be part of the process. As a GIS beginner, my main concern is choosing a topic so complex that sourcing all the necessary data might overwhelm me. This is my second attempt at a GIS project and the last time I got too caught up with that step and failed miserably.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

best practice for multi-select coded value domains?

i’m curious how other organizations handle this.
let’s say you have a field like “project use cases” where users should be able to select multiple values from a predefined list (similar to a coded value domain).
as far as i know, arcgis still doesn’t support multi-select domains natively.
my first idea was:
create multiple fields (usecase_1, usecase_2, usecase_3, …)
apply the same coded value domain to each field
combine them in a sql view for reporting and analysis.
it works, but it definitely feels like a workaround.
the only other approach i can think of would probably involve a custom experience builder widget. i’ve built custom widgets for web appbuilder before, but not yet for experience builder.
how have you solved this in your organization?

First GIS class project help

Hello, i am taking my first GIS class this summer and we need to submit a final project. I thought about this for a project: compared the vegetation type coverage and density of that coverage to the infiltration rate of the soil in one county in Georgia. I thought it would be something simple for my first project, but I am struggling to even find the right information I need. I cannot change my project idea anymore and so I was wondering if anyone here would be so kind to help me? I really don't want to use IA for this.

Thank you.

I think I accidentally uncovered the real reason behind this year's UC branding...

Okay, hear me out before you downvote me.

Was I the only one that looked at the UC logo for this year's Esri User Conference and immediately thought, "Why does that look like the Disney font?"

At first I figured I was imagining it, but now I can't unsee it.

Now I'm connecting dots that probably shouldn't be connected:

  • UC logo suddenly has Disney energy.
  • Jack Dangermond has built one of the most successful GIS companies in history.
  • At some point, every founder has to think about succession.

I'm just saying... if next year's keynote opens with Mickey introducing ArcGIS Pro 4.0, don't act surprised.

The first signs will be subtle:

  • StoryMaps become Storybooks.
  • Instead of a spinning blue circle, Tinker Bell flies across the screen while your spatial join runs.
  • Geodatabases become Magic Kingdom Databases.
  • Every geoprocessing tool starts with "Once upon a time..."
  • The licensing agreement somehow gets even longer.

I have no evidence whatsoever.

The only thing I've got is a suspicious font choice, way too much coffee, and a corkboard covered in red string.

Anyone else see it, or have I officially spent too much time in ArcGIS this week?

ArcGIS webmap quirkiness. Some feature suddenly stopped working on PC

Click on any property at https://www.portlandmaps.com/ (ESRI ArcGIS webmap) and the property line will highlight. It's all worked fine until the city updated the UI. The funny thing is that on the same connection, it works as it should on all but my PC, but it worked on my PC just fine until the interface update.

From mobile devices on the same connection, it loads the boundary line fine, whether in mobile or "desktop mode". Any ideas???

Setting up AGOL SSO anything I should watch out for?

Hello everyone I work as an IT admin at a Mid sized university Ive got a bit of sysadmin experience (managing AD,SCCM,Jamf, small bit of intune) I just got put in charge of administering our AGOL. Currently right now we are not using SSO and every term the professors will send me a list of students and their emails and I will import them into AGOL and create accounts for them. While this works it does take time. I've been reading so far on how to setup SSO with our IDP (Entra ID) from what I understand it seems pretty straightforward. before I start the testing phase, for any of you who have done this before is there any gotchas you have came across that I should be aware of or any useful tips and tricks?

thanks for the help and suggestions!

Bulk GeoTIFF terrain data to PNG for free on client-side browser

I was looking for a tool to do bulk conversion of earthexplorer USGS's GeoTIFF terrain data to PNG earlier today and found out that they are all paid tools!

Here a client-side webapp for doing this conversion for free instead.

AGPL v3 Open source. Fork to extent or put up issues.

Replacement for ArcGIS Companion?

Does anyone miss the ArcGIS Companion app that was on iOS?? I dont know if it was on Android…

Anyways, I just recently got the greenlight to start using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online for work and will slowly be moving parts of my work to ArcGIS Enterprise/Online over the next few years or so with our transition away from ArcMap (FINALLY!!)

I just realized that the app is retired even though it still works on my phone. I noticed something was off when the UI was unresponsive and buttons were in weird spots. Also, the logins were “clunky” at best. Sometimes it worked sometimes i would login to a blank screen…

Does anyone else wish they were going to make a replacement version for it in the future? I like the idea of having a mobile portal view simply for ease of use for the end users and to help with “buy-in”

Tapestry report for multiple sites

Is there an efficient (fewest credits) way to run a top three tapestry segments for multiple sites? There used to be a way to build reports but not for the "creator" class anymore. Looking at 3 mile radius sites.

Map designing tips without importing to Adobe

Hey, I was wondering if anyone out there had tips or resources on graphic design on ArcGISPro (even though I know it's not meant for that), I've seen some cool stuff throughout the years and was wondering what tutorials or strategies people use to keep things in GIS but creating good/captivating design. Even if it's a design guidline resource I would still find it helpful! Thanks

Is Field Maps down?

I am trying to view work my colleague did in the field but for some reason when I open field maps, it’s just blank and when I try to refresh the page it just has an infinite loading circle.

I’ve check my field maps designed on my computer browser and none of her work was updated server side.
