Feeling incredibly grateful today for all the support and turnout at my orangutan bake sale for International Animal Rescue on Sunday. My Cakes for Apes fundraiser ended as a Top 5 campaign for the year, and it's all thanks to the support from the community and the people who took this seriously.

Rescuing orangutans means a lot to me, and being able to support their care on this scale has been very meaningful for me. Like many of you, I felt helpless and wanted to do something about the bleak reality that many orangutans are facing. This was a great first step and I'm looking forward to doing more in the future to support the fight against deforestation and the illegal pet trade, which are two of the biggest threats orangutans face every day.

If you’d still like to contribute, I’ll be accepting donations for a short time and transferring them directly to International Animal Rescue. The GoFundMe link is below. Thank you for helping me make a real difference for these incredible beings.

🚨🚨 NEW MONKE DISCOVERED

They described a new primate species in Dr. Congo! Colobus congoensis, it was first seen in 2008 but only documented in one blurry photo. Now scientists were able to determine it as a separate species.

I'm not really serious about this but does anyone know if there's a legit breeder for pet chimpanzees? because most of them are scams or taken from their mother as infants :/

Where I live there are many wandering daily. This one stole the bread from shop on Ground floor. Tore the cover and eating bread while the shopkeeper was hopelessly smiling.

OOO OOO AHH AHH Bake Sale for IAR

Hey guys, I'm currently slated to have a bake sale in Seattle Washington at the Fremont Sunday Market on 7/19 where all the funds will go towards benefitting International Animal Rescue and their Cakes for Apes initiative! I've worked super hard on getting this in motion (by myself) and would really appreciate if you spread the message.

Every single penny will go directly to International Animal Rescue for their orangutan rescue and rehabilitation programs. I've spent quite a bit of money on setup but fortunately a lot were one time costs like a pop up canopy, that I'll be able to reuse for future bake sales or fundraisers. Really excited to do something tangible for our closest relatives and would really appreciate spreading the message or even stopping by the market if you feel inclined to do so. (For the address, Google Fremont Sunday market Seattle)

Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Story

What is it like to observe chimpanzees up close? 🐵🌎

Jane Goodall tells a story about filming her 2002 documentary “Wild Chimpanzees” when a group of chimps followed each other to hang around near the research team. It saved the crew from a steep climb up the hillside, and almost seemed like an intentional helping hand! It's a fitting story for World Chimpanzee Day, marking 66 years since Dr. Jane Goodall began her groundbreaking chimpanzee research at what's now Gombe National Park in Tanzania. Jane’s work revealed that chimps use tools, form deep social bonds, and pass knowledge across generations, forever changing how we understand our closest living relatives. Her research and legacy continue today through the Jane Goodall Institute.

Has anyone else seen this documentary about the Kasakela chimps, “People of the Forest” (1988)?

Might be a bit slow at times and the narration occasionally teeters into anthropomorphism, but I still found it really moving to watch. What ended up happening to both Flo and Flint was especially saddening, even with how much of a little shit Flint could be ☹️.

In general, I’m curious what criteria some of y’all personally use to assess whether a primate doc does its subject justice, both from an ethical/scientific standpoint and from a filmmaking one. Are you able to go without a structured narrative in favor of purely observational footage, or do you think storytelling is vital in most cases?
