UPDATE TL;DR (30 seconds)
🎉 Together is now a closed beta on Google Play!
1 - Join the group - https://groups.google.com/g/together-testers
2 - Install (use the Google account that's in this group):
📱 App + watch companion: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together
⏱️ Watch face: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together.watchface
→ Tap "Become a tester" on each, then install from the Play Store. (Watch parts are in final review — may take a few hours to appear.)
3 - 💞 Bring someone! Invite your partner/friend/family to join the group → https://groups.google.com/g/together-testers → then they install the same, and you can send each other photos, doodles & messages for a bit of fun together.
🗣️ Then tell me what you think — reply here or email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
I've got great news to share: Google Play has accepted Together, and it's officially a CLOSED TEST (beta) now! 🎉 That means the app is ready to install — and, importantly, other people can now install it too, not just this first group. 🙌
What is Together?
Together is a little app for staying close to the people you love, straight from your wrist. Send a photo, a doodle, a short message or an emoji, and it appears on the other person's watch face and phone. No feed, no noise — just a warm, playful way to feel connected and share a little fun through the day, even when you're apart.
I built Together for a simple reason: the people I care about most are often just out of reach during a busy day. I didn't want another chat app buzzing for attention — I wanted something warm and glanceable, where a photo, a doodle or a tiny message just quietly appears on your wrist and makes you smile. That's Together, and I'd love for it to do the same for you.
Install it yourself (about 3 minutes)
❗ Use the SAME Google account you used to join this tester group.
1️⃣ THE APP (phone + watch) — "Together - Share & Connect"
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together
→ Tap "Become a tester", then install on your phone from the Play Store. The watch companion app installs on your paired watch automatically. (The watch parts are in Google's final review, so they may take a few hours to appear — the phone app is ready now.)
2️⃣ THE WATCH FACE — "Together"
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together.watchface
→ Tap "Become a tester", then install it from the Play Store ON YOUR WATCH and pick it: long-press your watch face → Edit → "Together".
⏱️ If something says "not available yet" or "not compatible", give it a little time and refresh the Play Store — it's still finishing review.
💞 Now the best part: bring someone with you!
Together only comes alive with two people — so please invite your partner, a friend or a family member. Now that it's a closed beta, anyone you invite can install it too. It would mean a lot to me, and it's honestly the whole point: two people staying close, sharing little moments, and having some fun together through the day.
Here's how to bring them in — it takes 2 minutes:
- Send them this group link: https://groups.google.com/g/together-testers
- They tap "Join group" (I'll approve them right away).
- Once they're in, they install the same three things you did: 📱 the phone app, ⌚ the watch companion, and ⏱️ the watch face https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together.watchface
- Then start sending each other photos, doodles and little messages straight to your wrists — and have some fun together. 💜
Your feedback is the whole point 🗣️
Please tell me anything and everything:
- • Did it install and work on your phone and watch?
- • What feels good? What's confusing, annoying, or missing?
- • Any crashes, bugs or "huh?" moments?
- • Would you actually use it — and what would make you want to?
Just reply in this thread!
Thank you all so much for being part of this from the very start — I'm really happy to have you here, and I can't wait to see the fun you have with it. 💜
---- Original post ---
Back in 2014, Android Wear shipped a little gem called the Together watch face. You'd pair it with one other person — your partner, a close friend — and you could doodle, send an emoji, a sticker, or a quick note straight to each other's wrist. Two people, one shared watch face. It was simple and weirdly intimate.
Then in 2016 Google quietly killed it (https://www.pcmag.com/news/google-says-goodbye-to-android-wears-together-watch-face), and it's still referenced in old support docs like this (https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013732/)). I always missed it, and nothing really replaced it.
So over the past few months I rebuilt it from scratch for modern Wear OS (and Android phones) and working on getting it cross-platform with Garmin and IOS. It's called Together again:
- ✏️ Draw a little doodle, 📷 send a photo, or 💬 send text/emoji — from your watch or phone.
- It shows up instantly as the other person's watch face background + on their phone.
- Works for couples or small groups, with a cute streak counter and a quick-reply tile.
- Custom Watch Face Format face with configurable complications.
I'd love some testers to help me shake out bugs before a wider release.
Closed beta — join in:
- Join the testers group (needs a Google account): https://groups.google.com/g/together-testers
- Then opt in with same google account:
- 📱 Phone app: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together
- ⌚ Watch face: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.together.watchface
You'll need a paired Wear OS watch + Android phone to get the full experience. Feedback, bug reports, all very welcome. 🙏
