Mini of the Month Mini of the Month: Kastelan Robots!

Post image

Greetings to all Tech Adepts!

The Holy Synod of Mars returns for its monthly praises to the Omnissiah!

Thank you all for your hard work, Magi! The submissions this month were once again outstanding, with the return of multiple tech-priests whose creations have already blessed the contest in the last few months…

But even in the face of this experienced opposition, this month’s winner is a brand new participant: Magos Explorator 0-ror-4 of forge world Ausetra-VI by u/Melrakkiii! Bridging the gap between dimensions, this kitbash is the perfect demonstration of how creativity can even bring Age of Sigmar kits to become unmistakenly true servants of the Machine God.

The winning post has been added to the subreddit sidebar, and if you would like a custom user flair, please let us know.

Winning posts will remain in a 3 month cycle, so three will be present until they begin to cycle out.

Honourable Mentions!

July Competition
Now that 11th Edition is upon us, one of the most iconic units in all of the Adeptus Mechanicus has received fantastic upgrades - there is simply no better time than to finally have our glorious Kastelan Robots as our Mini of the Month!

Submit your model of Kastelan Robot (this can include a kitbashed unit or even full proxies, as long as it is readable as a Kastelan).
(Reminder - don’t share links publicly to 3D printed files that replicate official models or parts)
Submissions must be fully assembled and painted

The final date for submissions for this month's contest will be July 31st, and the results will be posted in the following days so we can have time to either pick the next Mini or run a poll on it.

Please submit your post in the following format:

Post Title as Kastelan Robot or your homebrew Kastelan’s name, forgeworld etc
<Mini of the month POST FLAIR>
<a photo of your Candidate>
Any custom lore your unit have on their service record, via Crusade games or homebrew or about your army, etc (optional)

The highest upvoted post will be displayed on the side bar of the sub, and the user can request a custom user flair (relating to the mechanicus) of their choice.

Praise the Omnissiah!

I can't decide whether to go a bright color for the electoos, or a darker color. If I go bright, I probably need to darken the skin around it.

Thoughts?

Doesn't this rule mean that the tech priest still gives Kastelans infantry, but vehicle is taken away when the bots dies?

Lists & Gameplay Discussion A fun little synergy I found today for LotF and the Servitor Battleclade.

Apologies if this is widely known, I'm fairly new to the army but haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.

The Servitor Underseer is the only model in our army that has the TECH PRIEST keyword but not the CHARACTER keyword. This means two things:

1) With the way wound allocations work in 11E, because the underseer is not a character we can choose to allocate wounds to the underseer first.

2) In Lords of the Forge, the Underseer model gets the 4++ INV and the 5+++ FNP buff automatically since it has the TECH PRIEST keyword.

This makes the servitor battleclade shockingly tanky. I tried this out in Unitcrunch and it looks like even a Land Raider Redeemer only has about a 50% chance of taking out the servitors in a single shooting phase.

Again, I'm not sure if I'm an idiot finding the most obvious thing ever, but I'm really excited to get some servitors put together and try it out.

Lists & Gameplay Discussion Techmarine in Admech?

Upvotes

Anybody else find it weird that we can’t run Techmarines? They are fully indoctrinated into the Cult Mechanicus so it would make sense for some to be with armies in the field while training. Part of what brought this up is that they are statistically better in almost every way for the same points. Better save, wounds, pistol profile, better and additional gun, better axe and extra melee and I would even say I would appreciate the +1 to hit over the 5+ FNP to give chickens. The only worse stat is no invuln.

When I finish cawl the great work which should I read next? I love cawl’s parts but there is so much more space marines sections then I was expecting so I kanda zoned out for those parts. It was kinda cool to see Felix again from dark imperium but I also read that series as a DG fan and not a ultramarines fan.

Miscellaneous The roots of Adeptus Mechanicus

Hello! I had been doing some reading and I saw some things. I realized later these were part of inspiration behind the adeptus mechancius so I thought I would sit down and write blog post about it! The blog post Link will take you to it! But you don't have to go there, the whole post is below. I focused only on two source of inspiration the developed into admech, what others can you think of? (Also I really enjoy the books of warhammer, but I could have gotten some of my details wrong, please correct me if I did.)

The Adeptus Mechanicus—or AdMech, as they’re more commonly known—is, in many ways, one half of the Imperium. You could spend all day talking about the political situation of Warhammer 40,000 and how the AdMech are technically a foreign power that has become so deeply integrated with the Imperium that the two are almost inseparable.

But I’m not here to write about politics.

I’m here to talk about the literary roots of the faction.

The Adeptus Mechanicus draws inspiration from several different sources. Some influences are subtle, while others are impossible to miss. Today, I want to focus on the two of the bigger inspirations.

The first comes from the early sections of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Foundation follows humanity after the collapse of a vast interstellar empire. The Foundation itself is an organization created to preserve human knowledge so that the coming dark age would be far shorter than originally predicted.

There are some obvious parallels to Warhammer 40,000. The setting also looks back on a lost golden age—the Dark Age of Technology—whose wonders have largely vanished. The similarities aren’t exact, though. Mars, the home of the Adeptus Mechanicus, wasn’t established as a repository of knowledge in quite the same way the Foundation was.

The biggest inspiration comes from one of the early stories. The Foundation expands its influence over neighboring worlds not through military conquest alone, but through a religion centered on technology: the Church of the Foundation. Its priests wear red robes, its “miracles” are simply advanced technology beyond the understanding of those witnessing it, and its faith is built upon science.

To me, this is one of the clearest inspirations for the Adeptus Mechanicus. You can see it in the imagery, the priesthood, and the idea of technology being treated with religious reverence.

The second major influence is Frank Herbert’s Dune.

This one is obvious in hindsight, though it’s often less noticeable because it influences the background lore more than the faction’s aesthetic.

In Dune, humanity fought a great war against thinking machines in the distant past. The Butlerian Jihad ended with artificial intelligence being outlawed, shaping civilization for thousands of years afterward.

Warhammer 40,000 borrows this concept almost directly. During the Dark Age of Technology, humanity also fought a catastrophic war against artificial intelligence. In the aftermath, the Adeptus Mechanicus came to view AI as “Abominable Intelligence,” a technology so dangerous that its creation is considered one of the greatest heresies imaginable.

This fear of AI is perhaps the most obvious inheritance from Dune.

The two settings, however, solve the problem differently.

In Dune, humanity develops Mentats—people trained to perform calculations and analyses that computers once handled.

The Adeptus Mechanicus takes a far darker path.

Instead of replacing computers with exceptionally trained humans, they replace computer components with actual human beings. Servitors, lobotomized workers, and cybernetically enhanced priests become living machines. It’s a wonderfully grim solution that gives the Adeptus Mechanicus much of its signature body-horror aesthetic.

Of course, these aren’t the faction’s only influences. You can see traces of cyberpunk, classic science fiction, religious imagery, and plenty of other sources woven into the AdMech’s identity.

But if you’re looking for two major roots of the Adeptus Mechanicus, it’s hard to argue against Foundation and Dune.

And with that, I think I’ve rambled enough.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this look at the literary roots of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Sooo, wanted to check how good is this errad. cohort list. Marhal with omnicognitator with hastarii in skorpius for max re-rolls, plus another unit of vanguards and a marshal attached to one of the two. Main changes where taking out an Ironstrider and swaping the skorpius to add the extra vanguards and two marshalls. How optimized is this list compared to the last one? What changes could I do to the list (got the eye of terror, sooo those units are auto-include)

Basically my list went up by 10, so i had two options, equip one ironstrider with auto cannons, or just put my two serberys raiders in one unit. For some reason the second option made me smile.

I’m fairly happy with the overall look but the cloak is a bit uneven and the transonic blades are rough, kinda dreading the rest of the unit now (any advice on those maybe?)

Anyone just throw in a random squad of 10 Skitarii all with the default equipment, just for a quick easy volley of shots? No plasma or arquebus or anything just straight galvanic rifles the way the Machine-god intended

Memes I heard this song and thought it was incredibly fitting for a God Engine striding over a battlefield.
