Community How much time do you waste sorting action cam footage? We built a prototype device to automatically organise action camera footage, would you use this?

As some of you know, I help run this community and over time, some of the discussions here actually inspired us to build Classer, a desktop app to help manage action camera footage.

Recently we started experimenting with something new. A device you keep at home that automatically imports and sorts your footage after your adventures, especially for those of us using external hard drives.

We already have a working prototype, and we're now developing it into a real product.

I’d genuinely love to know what people here think:

  • Is the idea clear? How could we improve the website?
  • Would you use something like this?

Brutally honest feedback welcome 🙂

Community AMA + Giveaway with Integral Memory - the people who make the SD cards powering your GoPros and action cameras!

Hey r/actioncam, we’re excited to welcome a guest from Integral Memory, the team behind the SD cards and storage solutions trusted by creators, adventurers, and pros around the world. They’re here for an AMA, “Ask Me Anything”, about storage, corruption and keeping your footage safe.

WHAT’S AN AMA?

An AMA means “Ask Me Anything”, it’s a fun, open-style Q&A where you can post your questions (and even have a chance to win a prize!) while our guest drops in to answer them.

Our guest works directly on the design and testing of memory cards used in GoPros, DJI, Insta360 and other action cameras, and is here to answer your questions about:

  • Why SD cards sometimes fail or corrupt footage
  • How to choose the right card for your setup (V30 vs V60, UHS-I vs UHS-II, etc.)
  • How to format and maintain your cards properly
  • The truth about fake or unreliable cards on the market
  • Anything else you’ve always wanted to ask about storage!

They can’t discuss unreleased products or confidential manufacturing details, but otherwise, everything’s fair game, from tech myths to your worst “SD card full” stories.

TIMING

The AMA will start on the week of the 12th of Jan, an Integral Memory team member will be checking in over the next few days to answer your questions.

The AMA will stay open for a while so everyone across time zones has a chance to take part. Replies will come in periodically as they drop by to respond.

GIVEAWAY

To make things more fun, everyone who takes part in this AMA has a chance to win an Integral Momentum I microSD Card (512GB), a premium, high-speed card with 210 MB/s read and 180 MB/s write speeds, perfect for recording 4K or high-bitrate footage on your GoPro or drone.

🎁 5 winners will each receive a 512GB Momentum I microSD Card!

GIVEAWAY RULES

  1. You need a Reddit account: and show reasonable activity.
  2. Ask a top-level question: To enter, comment your question directly on this post (not as a reply to someone else’s comment).
  3. Shipping eligibility: Prizes can only be shipped to regions where Integral Memory operates (Europe) or can fulfill orders. If you can buy through integralmemory.com, you’re good to go!

And that's all! Drop your questions below to have a chance to win the prize!

Looking for recommendations Budget Action Cam

Upvotes

Hi Folks, looking for an affordable action cam. I'd literally use it maybe twice a year to record motorcycle trips and some snorkeling so I can rewatch or share them with my parents.
So no need for 4k, but 2k 60fps, waterproof case and decent stabilization would be great.

Should I go for an older model of the big brands (DJI, Insta360, GoPro), second hand, or a lesser known brand like Akaso or SJCAM?

Happy with all the suggestions.

Leaked photos of the insta360X6

Scheduled release July 30 2026. I “borrowed” this unit from an “influencer”. 😜

I wasn’t able to use the footage because my insta360 app didn’t support it yet. No flowstate or any insta360 stabilization can be applied. So we scrapped the footage.

It comes with a two battery charging hub/case that has a built in cable which turns it into a powerbank. It’s two way. You can charge the batteries if plugged to a charger.

No need to pull the battery to access the micro sd card. Has internal storage already, i forgot how much. But the “influencer” was told that it has.

Much smaller now. Doesn’t stick out which is the most important. See photos side by side a GoPro 360 and my X5.

This was taken two weeks ago.

Sorry i used ai to blur the surroundings. But not the product itself. 🙃

Are you guys excited for the new insta360 X6?

What's the Best Action Camera You've Used That Was Actually Worth Buying?

I'm taking a couple trips later this year and figured it's finally time to get an action camera.

I don't need Hollywood-quality footage. Just something that shoots good video, has decent battery life, and won't make me worry every time it gets wet or dropped.

What's everyone using these days?

Pocket camera recommendations for travel and family videos?

I was pretty much planning on getting the dji p4, but since it’s not available in the US, I started looking at other options.

I’m mainly looking for a small camera to capture everyday life, family moments, travel, and some landscape shots. I want something that’s easy to carry and simple to use.

I noticed the insta360 luna has a few different kits available, and some of them include accessories like a mic, black mist filter, and carrying case. I'm wondering if those extras are actually worth getting or if the standard kit is enough.

Has anyone here used the luna for this kind of shooting? I’m also open to other compact camera recommendations if you think there’s a better fit.

Should i sell my Ace pro2 and get a X4/5 ?

I use my Ace Pro 2 mostly to record snowboarding and surfing. I enjoy rewatching my videos on my phone, so I usually record vertically in 9:16 with dewarp enabled.

For surfing, I use a bite mount, and for snowboarding, I use a helmet mount. I’ve realized how difficult it is to find the right angle to get a good view of both the surroundings and my board/body movements especially with the helmet mount, where it feels almost impossible. The camera is also quite big and heavy when used with the bite mount.

So I’m wondering if I misunderstood the intended use of this camera. Maybe an X4 or X5 would suit my needs better?

Looking for recommendations Choosing an Action camera

Long battery life is also important to me.

¿Cuál me recomendarías? ¿Hay alguna otra cámara que deba considerar?

Edición: La Mission 1 es demasiado cara para mí.

Looking for recommendations Settings for Snorkeling

Going snorkeling in 2 weeks and just bought a GoPro 13. Does anyone have recommended settings?

Watched YouTube and set two additional profiles: 120fps and 240fps. What’s the best one to use when underwater?

If I take a slomo video with either of those, does it have to be viewed slomo or are you able to speed it up?

Also, I want to take pictures under water and when we’re not snorkeling but in water. Is it better to take a video and thanks pictures from it or take actual pictures? Thanks

Open-source tool: strip chat from action-cam video + GPS map overlay (like GoPro Quik, but local)

Post image

I record trips with an action camera. I often hike or travel with friends. We talk while the camera records. I do not want those talks in a public video. I also want a route map in the corner of the video, like the GoPro app.

I made Walk Cast. It is open source (MIT). It runs on your computer. You can use a desktop app or the command line.

What the tool does:

  • It can remove voices from the camera audio.
  • Or it can replace the audio with your own file.
  • It can compress the video for upload (HEVC).
  • If the file has GPS, it can add a static route map.
  • Or it can add a live map dot that moves with the video.
  • If there is no GPS, it skips the map. Audio and compress still run.
  • If there is only one location point (common on iPhone), it can make a static map only. It cannot make a useful live route.

I built and tested this mainly with GoPro video. Audio replace, compress, and voice remove should work on any video that ffmpeg can open. That includes other action cameras and phone video. The map needs GPS that exiftool can read. If you test Insta360, DJI, or another camera, tell me what works.

Looking for recommendations Need to help deciding on a camera for fly fishing.

Looking for something to help me film on River and get some beautiful pictures and videos of fish to help me advertise my guide service. I wouldn’t mind doing close-ups of fish. I just bought a mission one pro and may be kind of regretting it for low light stuff and close ups but I’m still within my 30 day return period. Just want a couple opinions on if I should make a switch.

Looking for action camera recommendations

Hey Everyone,

Looking for an action cam to start recording my adventures when I travel. For some context, I am a beginner. I don't intend on recording myself talking, just my point of view, when walking from one destination to another. For the time being, my only plan is to have this mounted on the chest strap or shoulder strap of my backpack, and just record hands free without worry. No immediate plans to have it mounted to my forehead or walk around holding a selfie stick. I would prefer to be hands off as much as possible, as comfort while traveling is really big for me. I'd prefer to have a camera that doesn't discourage me to use it.

Just to summarize, need an action cam that is light weight, portable, user friendly, and is able to excel in those categories without sacrificing the image quality too much. Ideally, I would like for it to have decent low light performance, but I understand that I could be barking up the wrong tree in this aspect. Appreciate your thoughts and time.

P.S Not a content creator, just looking to record memories for myself.

Looking for recommendations What's a good Camera/Microphone for vlogging with friends

Hello everyone

So I'm going on a trip to Japan in 2 months and I wanted to record everything but I realized that even though my phone (Google pixel 9 pro) has a good Camera quality the audio mostly only pickes up me and not my friends.

So I wanted to ask around if there is a specific Camera or microphone that I could use that would record in good quality and/or A Microphone that allows me to record my friends audio whilst we are walking around Tokyo.

Thank you

Osmo Action 6 underwater B cam

Hey guys!

I’ll be shooting a documentary soon about a small boat company, A cam is canon C50 with a 24-105 2.8 but there’s a few shots I want to get from in the water. Budget can’t stretch to an underwater camera housing and I was wondering. If I was to buy an Action 6, how well will it match to the C50 and will it be noticeable on a bigger screen? This is for film festivals not just socials.

Thank you!

Suggest me the best budget-friendly moto vlogging camera

I’m looking to upgrade my setup for moto vlogging something compact, durable, and with great stabilization for those bumpy rides. My budget is around 30K–50K, but I’m open to suggestions if there’s a better option.

Thanks in advance for your recomm.
