I really want there to be a law where the parent company of a product needs to be displayed just as obviously as the name brand, rather than small text on the back.

How would that work in complicated supply chains where there can be 5+ companies involved? For meat do you want the farm raising the cattle? The slaughterhouse? The meatpacker? The distributor (sometimes multiple). The consumer brand selling it? The grocery store?
